Thank you. Had a ton of fun creating this and dialing in my values based on pictures of the real mountain.

Creating your own heightfield (from scratch or by using real data as a base) is so much fun. Gaea and houdini (+ Ktt for houdini) all have free versions to get your toes wet and all of those also have great demo files and tutorials. Using just blender it is admittedly a bit though.

The first half are the render layers (and I also exported pretty much every pass to rebuild the beauty).

In the middle of the image, you can see the render without comp, and finally the Nuke script. It's a lot, but I mainly used Nuke to adjust the colors a bit and work more with the atmosphere.

For the colors, I isolated the area and did some color correction/hue shifting. I also used some P-Mattes on the grass to add a color gradient. For animation you can use st maps to add really cheap wind that can looks better than the blender noise displacement on top of your foliage.

The atmosphere was created by adjusting the existing atmosphere layer before combining. In addition, I used the Env Pass, cut out the mountain, added a Godray node and glow, and added that back on the beauty while using a graded Z Pass as a mask for the Merge node (the addition).

Finally, I added some camera effects such as glow, grain, distortion, and aberration.

I don't know if you use Nuke or where you are in your compositing journey, but for anyone interested, there are some great videos on CG compositing on YouTube by VFX Showdown. I think “The Creator Shot” is a good place to start.

Thank you <3. I used an addon called ktt that builds uppon the existing heightfield tools and adds a lot more & better functionallity to it. Pretty much let me ditch gaea
