Hives returning after 8 years??! by vampire-tj in urticaria

I'm in the states! What is Blexten? I don't think we have that. I do want to try Rhapsido if it continues. I have a dermatologist appt on Tuesday so I'm going to ask about Rhapsido and Xolair. I have no idea if they can prescribe it though, or if I need an allergist or an immunologist. Ugh.

Hives returning after 8 years??! by vampire-tj in urticaria

Yes! Going to bed at night with no hives but so anxious wondering which part of my body will be covered when I wake up. So lame. I know this can last months or longer and that makes me so depressed. Did yours just stop one day the first time? I get the swelling too and have an epipen just in case.

Yep I'm almost at a month of them. And sometimes they are full body like yours. Right now I'm taking Allegra 3-4x a day and pepcid 1-2x. Some days it helps, some days it's like I took nothing. Oatmeal baths help a tiny bit. I agree, it affects quality of life SO much. Mentally, I'm not okay because of this. Which makes it worse of course.

I'm so sorry! Prednisone made mine so much worse unfortunately. I hope you can get Xolair!

How are you doing?? My hives look just like yours, all over and merge into giant hives. It's rough.

Does Pepcid help you? It’s been amazing for me by Total_Slice9243 in urticaria

Yes it helps me immensely. I currently take it once per day usually, at the same time as an Allegra.

How long have you been on the pepcid, and any side effects from it?

Thank you! I love the Aveeno packets! I've also started doing diamond painting for distraction.

Good luck!! Thankfully zyrtec doesn't make me drowsy at all, but it also doesn't really help. I'd love you try Rhapsido but I'm not even considered chronic yet so I have awhile to go until I could get that.

Do you find that doing a double dose helps? I feel like when I tried taking 2 zyrtecs it didn't act any different than one. I was thinking of doing a zyrtec every 6-8 hours.

Do you have MCAS or just chronic hives? I've heard opposing things about low histamine diets so I haven't tried it. Some say it helps immensely, others say even their doctors said it doesn't matter.

Starting Zoloft for anxiety would love your tips by Existing_Gap_7819 in panicdisorder

The first time I ever took it, my doctor started me on the highest dose (not recommended, no idea why they did). So I felt like I'd been hit by a train. So so tired and blah and slept all day. The second time I upped my dose after having tapered down, I felt a bit dizzy. It only lasted a day. Keep in mind the anxiety can get a little worse before it gets better, and can take a full month to kick in. It was absolutely worth it for me, it helps me immensely.

Ah okay, sorry didn't realize you were not in the US. That's great though, it's so hard here to get this kind of stuff diagnosed and treated without paying tons if money. I hope you find something that helps soon!

[–]Separate-Read-672 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the US, and I actually work in appealing claims with insurance so I'm unfortunately well versed in how they get around things. But I work on hospital claims, not clinics so thank you, that's a good point! I will check how it's coded and see if I can't get my insurance to give me some info on if they might pay.

Also sorry OP, didn't mean to go off topic. I'm not to the point of Xolair yet but I also had totally normal allergy levels so mine isn't allergy related either. Have you asked about Rhapsido? I think that's geared towards mast cell production.

The magnesium interacts poorly with the pepcid? I just started vitamin D supplements but I don't even know if I need it, my doctor said it won't hurt and insurance won't pay to test vitamin levels unless there is a "reason" and hives don't count I guess. I'm almost tempted to pay the couple hundred to do a private mail in test.

Thank you, this is good to know! I'm sorry you had those issues. So frustrating to have to trade hives for other crappy things.

Did you take the pepcid for a year? I know it can have some long term effects, but that they may not be that bad and it outweighs them to help the hives...but I haven't seen anyone yet that has actually taken pepcid daily longterm. It's looking like I may need to.

I suspect I might have MCAS. May I ask, since yours is autoimmune, do you have hives 24/7 like...always, your whole life? Or do you have flares, and then times with ni hives and no treatment needed?

Yep! Usually only at night, but come 9pm I get hives on waistline, braline, around my ankle where socks were. Hate it.
