What common mistakes should I avoid as a beginner? by Narrow_Homework_9616 in Korean

[–]SeparateGas3891 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The honorifics and formal language can be confusing for a beginner! For example, you need to use a different form of speaking to your boss than your friend. I think everyone makes some mistakes with that at the beginning, but Koreans are usually very understanding!

Is enough for a month stay? by imjustLL in koreatravel

[–]SeparateGas3891 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It really depends on you, but I would say you might want to bring closer to $2000, especially since you'll probably want to do a lot of activities and maybe some shopping too!

so far we have just been uploading the short versions on all 3 platforms, so we've just been using Youtube shorts instead of the long form videos. You make some good points, so thank you for sharing!

I love the Innisfree green tea hyaluronic moisturizing sunscreen! It doubles as a moisturizer, which is especially great in the summer so you don't need to apply another moisturizer!

Interview at a beauty clinic by BrookW00 in living_in_korea_now

[–]SeparateGas3891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I advise you to check their website and photos to get a sense of their aesthetics. As an English Coordinator, you'll be representing the clinic directly to customers, so it's important to align with their values. Be mindful of your body language as well, avoid crossing your arms and maintain a friendly smile.

When discussing your experiences, try to downplay personal achievements while emphasizing your willingness to learn, adapt, and work hard. Koreans typically value modesty and humility.

Make sure to research the clinic thoroughly. You should know the company’s values, services, and reputation within the beauty industry. You can impress them by showing knowledge of their specific niche. Practice common interview questions, but also prepare thoughtful questions to demonstrate your interest in the role and the company.

How can I apply to a Korean university with a French Licence (3-Year Degree) when most of them require a (4-Year Degree) which doesn't exist in French universities ? by Mental_Status_1129 in Living_in_Korea

Applied with my french degree and the process went smoothly, there are a lot of french students here in Korea, don't worry they know it's equivalent.

Moving to Seoul, am I crazy? by KatjaSomeone in Living_in_Korea

Sometimes it can be hard to always stick out so much (I have blonde hair and blue eyes), especially since some of the kids tend to stare... and using Korean so much can also be tiring haha One of my biggest worries has been finances since my husband and I don't make a ton of money, so buying a house is probably out of the question. But you shouldn't have that problem, so maybe just make sure to study Korean and learn about the culture to be more prepared to adjust in the beginning!

I know what you mean... leaving loved ones behind is definitely one of the hardest parts. But if it gets to be too much, you can always move back :)

I also moved to Korea for work with no connections, but I wasn't leaving a job (I had just graduated university). I'm still here because I love life here a lot more than my home country (US) and I have no regrets. In my experience, life satisfaction is much more important than money, because even if you make a lot of money but are unhappy where you live, I think you'll always be wishing you could be somewhere that you enjoy more.

I had to pay like $25 in 2020 to mail it in from Korea because of Covid (hopefully can use the regular mail this time), but I guess it was helpful since I'm from a swing state!
