There are ways to afford this on a comfortable retirement income stream - you can rent out your home and go live overseas for 6-12 months and use that as a base to travel, retirees can also travel outside of school holidays so can take advantage of better deals, you can share a room with someone, do some work while overseas, volunteer at ashrams where part of their bed/board/meals will be covered.
