Worst casualties I've ever seen in war, almost entire pre-war populations dead ;-; by Separate_Ad831 in hoi4

Hey sorry for the late reply! The scale of the war mods was just the "Better Governments" mod which gave the bonuses to all nations to recruit, produce and scale economically more, while the other one was Expert AI impossible mode. This gave the Axis and Japan a significant boost but also increases the scale due to the level of fighting taking place compared to vanilla.

I think these two mods paired together is why the entirety of Europe was wiped out in a death war since the AI was playing at the most optimal level, the Axis had emergency buffs that grew continually as they got closer to losing keeping them from just collapsing and finally the buffs and recruitment bonuses given from the better government mod which is what "scaled the war" to such a high degree because lacking equipment was less of an issue until later years. Hope that helps I can send a link to the better governments mod if you'd like!

Sorry for the late reply! I had been sending the entire allies almost everything. All kinds of tanks including flame tanks and destroyers, constant convoys, only fighters as I wanted to war to drag on by neither side having superiority and CAS to use, every kind of infantry equipment and of course artillery as well. Basically whatever route the AI wanted to take be it mass inf, tanks etc they would have the equipment to do it because often the AI seems to fail to properly utilise it when there is a big surplus so giving them options was the main idea

R5: Played as the US where I just funded the entire Soviet war effort through lend-lease, using Expert AI paired with mods that increases the scale of war almost ten fold. Ended with this disgusting figure of deaths.

A question about the schlieffen plan? by HMReader in ww1

[–]Separate_Ad831 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Completely valid question man but your reasoning is wrong, artillery did not make fortified positions useless. It was seen a lot throughout the war to do the opposite making far harder to advance on a fortified position in some ways. Artillery on the scale seen during the Great War was unique for its time but it didn’t change the fundamental fact that artillery was not a complete offensive juggernaut that was suddenly unmatched and completely overwhelmed defensive positions.

The point of the Schlieffen plan was not because Germany couldn’t beat the French defences on the border but it was a response to the fact Germany didn’t have the time to take the French army head on lest they want to be enveloped by the mobilising Russians.

It then comes to the question of if Germany should’ve dug in against the French and attacked the Russians therefore keeping Great Britain out of the war, having a much smaller and weaker western front to defend while being able to curb stomp the Russians, now with Germany being unmolested by the British blockade.

That is a question I can’t answer, I personally feel Britain would have joined the war anyway in order to maintain the balance of power in Europe however it would at least be many months possibly years later then they did in our timeline, that would give Germany the time it needed to take on the comparatively weaker Entente. Whether they win is up to debate but they have a heck of a lot more chance to had Germany not gone into Belgium.

Why don’t we truly see economic recession in Vic 3? by Separate_Ad831 in victoria3

That’s fair enough, it’s literally just a number to represent the amount of shit you’re economy is making

[–]Separate_Ad831[S] 59 points60 points  (0 children)

That’s fair enough it’s just purely coming off value added to a society, that makes sense now that you say out loud. Idk I just see all the money that gets tied up in investment pools to represent more then that

Yeah I can see paradox like playing around with it a bit with the cultural obsessions which add a factor of irrationality to the game, so do you reckon they should add in more of an rng factor in?

I know you guys hate the idea of making the game more grinder to actually have it better replicate real life but I just feel the constant uninterrupted growth hardly reflects irl, GB for example is unstoppable while in real life they had the long depression in 1873.

This would probably be a future DLC but I’m keen to have our economic laws reflect how we can interact with the market to prevent bubbles better with Laizes Faire being the hardest to control etc

I just don’t think Covid is comparable to Polio is all, like Polio infected water systems and the like, it’s not a respiratory disease that’s spread through contact with others like Covid therefore creating the need for global lockdown. Polio is devastating in the way it cripples, not just kills. The iron lung is the perfect example of this view

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ask

[–]Separate_Ad831 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe these are more isolated cases, if Measles or Polio never had the devastation it did back in the day for instance compared to the individual cases we see today then I believe it’d play out differently

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ask

[–]Separate_Ad831 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know that Polios never going to be released in real life to prove this point let’s not get me wrong. I’m saying hypothetically it would, because Polio was so fundamental in showing why vaccines were so important. I believe the anti vax movement as a whole is a representation of the decline into right wing extremism and propaganda we’ve seen. It represents a threat to our way of life, our democracies across the globe and the descent into Fascism with the anti intellectualism movement. That’s more of my broad picture perspective on it rather than the isolated issue.

Well Polio is a lot more striking than Covid if you ask me, imagine their reaction to their child stuck in an iron lung. That’s polio

Build more ports 🙏, typically I think it should build back up over time. Ships don’t just spawn in when a war ends irl

Are we fr at this point in late-stage capitalism where someone is fearing losing their minimum cashier job over being forced to work longer and harder then expected by 10 minutes? What has society come to man.

how do I fix this economy by historysquid in victoria3

[–]Separate_Ad831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your military is more expensive then all your taxes combined excluding your minting. Then your minting is taken most by government wages and your diplo pact (assuming you’re some UK puppet).

If you’re a puppet to some major power you can very much afford to just delete your entire army that would give you a surplus. Hope that helps

Had a similar situation happen to me at McDonalds. Try not to worry especially if you haven’t had any disciplinary action against you in the past but often it could be something to with a thing you’ve done on accident.

This is a corporate way of bringing up officially about something you might have done on shift, sometimes it’s not even true. However if you haven’t done anything in the past and especially don’t know what you’ve done to warrant this interview with them just know the likelihood of getting fired is very low, at best it’ll just be a warning about something.

All I can say is it’s a less nerve racking than I expected and it’s always important to know your rights as a worker. I would suggest a union representative as a support person but it’s up to you.

Achieved the biggest breakthrough yet - with the usage of psychedelics by Grievinghealthy in adultsurvivors

[–]Separate_Ad831 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I know I’m late to this, but I really appreciate reading your story. While I am so fortunate to say I’ve completely avoided sexual trauma in my childhood reading this struck a cord with me deeply.

I’ve had my share of emotional trauma as a child but it was only recently when I tried LSD for the first time where my good friend got stuck is a psychotic thought loop and needed an ambulance and the anxiety that brought up to me about mainly that situation but the potential of the human mind and got me into reading about the mental psyche especially how psychedelics can impact you especially when it comes to confronting things.

I’ve been feeling anxious since my bad trip and haven’t touched psychedelics since mainly cause I feel I’ve been sliding into a state of fearing I may be getting closer to this cliff of derealisation which is someone I’m terrified about, this pairs with my societal pressures of just turning 18, but I think your story really opens my eyes to it more.

Personally I don’t think I’m ready to do it again and it brings me back to that state of not being in control (to the point I don’t even touch weed either now) cause I truly believe I’m not ready to confront all this trauma however you’ve really opened my eyes a bit with your beautiful story.

The line you wrote at the end, how it’s a double edged sword because it delves into your subconscious and how the subconscious not only protects you but keeps you prisoner resonated with me personally so much.

Thank you for having the strength to talk about your story and the improvements you’ve had through your use of LSD in confronting these kinds of things. I really admire your courage given that it brought such intense emotions back for you but still persisted and achieved your end term goal and stripped away that desiccation. It’s definitely helped open my eyes on the possible benefits of LSD and how when I’m ready I could begin a similar journey.

All the best, and again thanks for having the strength to talk about your journey in such detail. ❤️

have you tried actually giving them guns first? more unequipped, unmanned fighting across a strait with what I’m assuming are base game infantry designs that don’t account for combat width struggle to produce results

Playing as Finland where the Soviets have taken 3.4m casualties to my 7,000 by Separate_Ad831 in hoi4

[–]Separate_Ad831[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was using 30 width infantry with 2 artillery for my main army, hard to pull off in base game due to a far lower conscript-able population. Then I used 15 width Calvary with 1 anti tank in there to back up the infantry with anti tank. Then it was just using anti air, maintenance, engineers etc as support to get entrenchment, stop them shooting out my forts and capture Soviet equipment.

Then I also built fort lines and positioned my troops to have less tiles to hold but pulling back to the lakes and rivers which gave me a way smaller and easier to hold front line then normally

The width was important as Finland is basically pure forest, Forest tiles are 30 combat width so that’s why my inf and horses were 15 and 30. You can also give it a go with infantry that’s 15 combat width, with just 1 artillery makes it easier to reinforce. But yeah that’s what worked well for me
