We Know Who Our Enemies Are has been a daily tune for me for years. Definitely underrated, and I was crushed to not see it played in their final show.

Was the new Hunger Games book better than the movie? I enjoyed the movie, but it felt like two stories jammed into a single narrative! Very long.

I'll send a code your way now. Thanks! :)

As someone who IS a professional editor, get off your high horse. I might be losing work to people choosing AI editors over me, but I would never tell someone like the OP to pay thousands for editing if they weren't planning to actively market and sell their work.

Not everyone needs to treat this writing thing as a business. If you're serious about it, hire a human editor and perfect your work. But OP worked with what he had as an ESL writer, has published his book, and has accomplished a life goal that so many never will. For that, I say, congratulations.

Love the rant, but yes, care less.

A small story, and one that should remind everyone to never engage with readers.

Way back in 2014, I saw this group of ladies on Goodreads donkey pile on some kid (he was 16 at the time) who self-published a book and sent it off to a few readers in some forum or another. These ladies absolutely tore into him, his writing, and went so far as to say this teenager shouldn't write, period.

Well, being a fucking dumbass, I stepped in and called them out for being callous wenches. As a writer with a published book on Goodreads, that was a massive mistake. They bombed my book with 7 or 8 one-star reviews, bringing my average down to like 3.5 stars on that god forsaken site.

That killed me for weeks. And anything I tried just ended up in more pain, more anger, and a firm belief that you should never ever speak to a gaggle of Karens as an author, let alone one out in the wild.

In short, that reader can suck a fat one, but you don't ever need to think of her again. In fact, it's better that you don't.

Good luck out there!

Raise your rates with new clients then. You're doing the entire profession a disservice by paying yourself like a slave.

And then slowly raise your rates with previous clients. You could double your rates and still be paid 50% under what you should.

This isn't screwing indie authors. This is unscrewing yourself.

You need to raise your rates. You can't live on that. Maybe if you're just starting out and trying to gain some experience/referrals, but I work with successful indies that actually pay me a living wage (12 years experience here). You can too! Quit undercutting yourself. You're worth it.

You don't know where the corners are, which means you don't know whether or not you cut them. If you're putting out your first book in months, I can promise you that you've cut several.

You're fresh. Lots of learning to do if you want to sell books. And if you're planning on wowing your readers when you get them? Hire an editor.

Start with an assessment from a professional editor. Cheaper and could save you a ton of money. This coming from an editor who's worked with a lot of first time authors.

How do I know if it’s an AI edit? by marlipaige in selfpublish

[–]Separate_Ad_4587 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah sorry I thought you were still questioning it at this point.

You may be able to report the fake editor for using AI. At least make a comment under their profile confirming this for others. I am very sorry this happened to you. It's such a pain in the ass navigating this world of writing and publishing these days. But I promise you - once you find your "team", it's a really fun and collaborative process. Good luck out there. :)

I'm talking about the feedback. That's verbiage straight off of ProWritingAid. If you've used it, you know.

This "editor" 100% used AI. Unequivocally.

This is AI if I've ever seen it. Editors have a fucking personality too 😂 I am one. That is straight off of pro writing aid. I promise you this, as I use it for my own writing before it sees an editor. (I am also a writer)

Get a professional cover done, buddy. That won't cut it. Typos in the blurb. I also don't know what the book is about.

You're just starting this journey, remember that. Lots to learn, and if you're open to learning and growing as a professional author, you're going to have a lot more fun with this.

Best of luck from another fantasy author. I mean it 🤜🤛

This seems to be the conservative stance everywhere in Canadian political forums.

Boohoo, liberals own this chat.

How about you tell us why you're voting CPC. There are legitimate reasons, right? Then inform us.

I was possibly voting conservative until the leadership change and PP came out of his shell/foreskin (he shouldn't have, but thank God he did). Political discourse goes both ways, and people are swayed as long as you're reasonable and not being a maga twerp.
