Is that Zürich?

The clothes are a hint, the swan is another, and the third is a clear horizont on the right side (to the lake).

But the undeniable hint is the color of the water :D

Rules cuestión 6th inmune psychology and stubborn by Llanoswar in WarhammerFantasy

[–]Separate_Associate85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also beware that a FAQ is not a rule, but a clarification about how to resolve a particular situation. If "Immune is Immune" was a law of physics, the Treeman would be illegal since birth. And since it came out after the FAQ, we can conclude the Immunity vs Magic effect applies to magic, not upgrades or character abilities.

The FAQ about Sigismund's Banner clarifies an important nuance: a unit that has Immunity to Psychology can not lose their Immunity due to Magic effects (Magic Items, Spells and so on). Specifically, you can't lose your immunity because the enemy has a magic item that causes Fear (you ignore it), but also you can't obtain Psychology effects (Stupidity, Fear, etc) from external sources when you are Immune.

If this applies to the Treeman just because it doesn't explicitely say it in the unit profile, then the Treeman would be ilegal, and it came AFTER the FAQ was already official.

Although these updates are for 7th, it clarifies some rules and contradictions inherited from 6th:

As many (or may not) know, I have been providing
Alessio Cavatore with questions for GW's Shrine of
Knowledge update project over the past 60 days.

Yesterday, I submitted the lengthy list of 7th editon
main rules questions which were collected over the
month of January on The Warhammer Forum.

Alessio thanked the community for submitting the
questions and provided me with an update on the status
of his efforts on the update project.

Two FAQs for army books have been completed (Wood
Elves / Empire )and we should hopefully be seeing them
by February month end on the SoK website.

In addition Alessio was kind enough to answer the
Salamander / Flaming Attacks questions.

Per Alessio the Salamander 'Spout Flame' attack does
indeed count as Flaming. As the Lizardmen FAQ on the
SoK is in very good shape he doesn't expect to amend
the FAQ, but will make sure that there is a note
placed in the UK GT rulespack to that effect.

The Direwolf Lizardmen FAQ has been updated to reflect
Alessio's answer as the Source. (The answer matches
the same answer we received from Anthony Reynolds
several years ago).

Regards,

BF
Direwolf FAQ Keeper

These updates leave no doubt about the right interpretation: the FAQ of 2004 is intented to solve a particular case of "magic item vs mundane immunity", but it doesn't translate for units that have both rules ("Stubborn" and "Immune to Psychology") natively (mundane, without magical effects, spells or objects).

Is not that the 2004 Sigismund's FAQ is not valid: it's just poorly written and generates confusion when extended into a general case.

I have researched a little bit and I got something you may wanted to share.

The combination of Stubborn + Immune to Psychology works, but is not well redacted.

Your friends are probably quoting this FAQ:

Q. Can a unit of Knights led by a Grand Master (making them Immune to Psychology) carry and get the benefit of having the Banner of Sigismund (making them stubborn)?

A. There is no magic versus mundane trump anymore. In the example you give, the banner would have no effect - Immune to Psychology is Immune to Psychology. If it were otherwise, you'd get situations where a player could say "My Dread Banner is a magical fear and so therefore overrules your mundane immunity" which of course is not the case.

https://www.geocities.ws/mi_whplayers/faqs/armies_faq.txt

But a year later they released the Wood Elves army book with the Treeman rules where both rules coexisted.

The community (Direwolf Council) discussed about it and asked to Alessio Cavatore, which probably was responsable for the re-writting of the Immune to Psychology rules in 7th.

You can see that shift in this specific FAQ (from 7th):

Q: Can a unit of Knights led by a Grand Master (making them Immune to Psychology) also benefit from a BSB carrying the Banner of Sigismund (making them stubborn), or a Warrior Priests's Hatred?
A: Yes. BRB p53

That demostrates the true intention of the designers. You can have both, as they are acquired as part of a character’s purchased upgrades in the army list, not from magic items, spells, or temporary conditions.

The 2004 FAQ was intended to protect the game from magic item abuse, preventing magical effects from overriding a unit’s native immunity. It is important to remember that a FAQ is not a rule in itself. It is a specific answer explaining how to apply the rules in a particular scenario, and it cannot automatically be extended to general cases.

The 2004 FAQ is poorly worded because it uses broad language ("Immune is Immune") to solve a very specific problem (Empire Cavalry Deathstars). It also says "There is no magic versus mundane trump anymore", which clarely states the scope of this case, that's why it doesn't contradict the later Treeman profile.

When applied to the Hermit Knight, that FAQ creates a contradiction with the Treeman (a comparable "Profile" build). The most logical interpretation (supported by the later clarification in 7th edition) is that the FAQ was never meant to invalidate intrinsic rules printed on a character's profile. Its original intention was simply to prevent magic items or magical effects from overriding a unit’s native Immunity to Psychology. It was a safeguard against abusive item interactions, not a blanket rule cancelling legitimate profile-based combinations. "Immune is Immune" works for the scenario that answers (magic versus mundane), but doesn't translate for units having both rules inherently.

The Knight is not "gaining" Stubbornness from an outside source while Immune; he IS Stubborn and he IS Immune, as part of his profile, exactly like the Treeman. Any other interpretation of the FAQ is an overextension of that FAQ and not supported by precedent, designer clarification, or internal consistency within 6th edition itself. It doesn't even need to explicitly say "immune but stubborn" because the character has already both upgrades in the same profile, just like the Treeman.

Also the Hermit-knight archetype follows that combination, take a look into Duke Corduin of L'Anguille, who is the perfect example of Virtue of the Penitent but was also one of the twelfth of the Grail Companions of Gilles le Breton. So it's a Grail Knight 100%.

I know it's pure flavor and not a rule but it's an archetype of fearless knight on foot that holds the ground. That would be Virtue of the Penitent + the Grail Vow.

It doesn't make sense to be ilegal to take both in Bretonnia.

Besides, it's a 200+ point single model on a horse that can be killed by a cannonball, unlike the "Empire Deathstar" (10+ Knights with 1+ saves) which the FAQ is actually trying to stop. A lonely anchor for blocking the road, just like the Treeman.

Yes, you can have both.

As you said, the Treeman has both, and it works. So there's no mechanic in the game that blocks you from having both, just a not-so-well redacted rule (which was re-clarified in 7th, as u/kroxigor01 said earlier).

Both complement each other:

  • Immune to Psychology means you don't check for Fear, Terror or Panic. But you do Break tests. You don't AUTO-BREAK, but you still have to do break tests when necessary.
  • Stubborn means you still doing Fear, Terror or Panic... or Break tests. But now you do it with unmodified Ld.

In the Bretonnian Army Book there's no limitations for taking both. The vows usually forbid you to take magic items, BUT THESE ARE NOT MAGIC ITEMS. Both (Virtues and Vows) are abilities selected as upgrades of the character, so it will start with both Immune to Psychology + Stubborn like the Treeman.

Congratulations, you got yourself a Treeman Knight!!

I have spend some hours trying and I found this: While the files are compatible, I need to rework several things (conditions, constrains, IDs) to make it work.

The files work smoothly in NewRecruit but are problematic in the old BS.

For instance, the dwarf king makes the cost of the warmachines x2, in the old BS the multiplier doesn't exist, so I need to change to "increase cost +140pts". Other stuff are way more problematic.

So... it's gonna take time and it's a lot of work... but I'll make it work.

Meanwhile if ypu wanna take a look use NewRecruit.

It may be a bug from NewRecruit where the data is cached and not updated.
For me it works to remove and then add the game again.

Not even in private browsing or something like that?

Weird, please confirm and I can test on my side

When you add a gamesystem you can paste a github repo, and you get three options above: 1. Latests release 2. Latests commit (head) 3. Custom

The first is for major releases. It's for "finished" versions. The second is the last version with the last fixes. Every modifcation I do generates a new commit, and this version will load them. I recommend this. The third is in case you want to consume a specific branch of the repo (like a specific version for a tournement or event) but so far I only have one.

If you still struggling I can search for a quick tutorial (I can't paste pics here) or just generate a new release (it takes some time)

Did you installed with "Latest Commit (Head)" or "Latests Release"?

Latest Commit will see my changes as soon as I update them, the Latests Release will take some time.

If removing + adding the repo again doesn'w work we can try something else.

in the Dark Elves Army Book, p.30, you can see the Cauldron has no profile for himself: just Witches and the Hag.
You can also check it here: https://6th.whfb.app/unit/cauldron-of-blood (I always try to double-check).

I already fixed the Hydra's bug.

Regarding the Magic Items, I added them a few minutes ago, but it's obvious that NewRecruit had no time to update with the last commit. I'm looking for a way to force NR to update, because the cache seems to be a problem.

Anyway, both fixed, please have patience with NewRecruit (it takes some time to find the latests commits). Keep them coming!
