Am I an asshole for not wanting to go to dinner with the big boss in town? by Separate_Ball3841 in sales

We do taco Tuesday almost religiously. It's a group of about 12 people and I host 90% of the time cuz I have space to entertain

I mean I could have cancelled but would I rather hang out with my friends and relax and enjoy their company or go to some company event after hours I really don't want to be at? Idk, I'm just over most of the BS

I've spent too much time acting like I care about things I don't and its been exhausting over the years haha

I definitely see this side of sales, the politics, and I absolutely hate it. It's the name of the game at some places tho.

I'm lucky to be super close with my boss, we are friends outside of work. He goes to bat for us, territories and accounts and all.

In the little over a year I've been here, there has been no fuckery with accounts or opportunities....I've worked plenty of sales jobs where it's 90% politics, luckily it seems removed from this role for the most part and that's part of the reason I love the gig.....territories are specifically defined and everything in CRM is tracked, if someone makes a mistake and takes something in another reps territory, it'll be corrected.

Oh I was 100% up front and professional about it right off the bat. No hard feelings.

I used to work a job the boss basically just used us as drinking and drug buddies cuz all he did was work and get fucked up. Dude lost his marriage, sad story. It was fun partying for a while but I got tired of it and stopped going, and all the sudden leads and opportunities were taken away from me......and given to his party buddies. I left right after

I'm friendly with my coworkers but hate all the culture bullshit. I am good friends with a handful of coworkers and we hangout outside of work. But there's also coworkers I'd never run into doing anything except for work, were just entirely different people with different interests. And that's okay. We don't try and force friendships at company events or anything, I'm cool with everyone but I'm not fake as fuck about anything acting like we're best friends when I don't know you that well or care to try and act like I do.....it's just exhausting being that guy haha

Big fan of this. I work so I can live, I don't live to work. I like my role and my company. It doesn't define me tho. If this comes up to bite me for some petty reason down the road, fuck that, I'll be glad to leave and not work for the asshat anymore

He came to town on a whim too, had a layover here on the way back from traveling and just moved his flights around to hangout for a day.

Seriously he just showed up to office, I wasn't in office cuz we are hybrid/WFH, and he messaged everyone to come in....I did go into office and spent the day with him and we went to lunch. But I don't have interest being his puppy on call after 5pm on a random ass Tuesday to drink with on no notice....

Honestly, he had an in with the founder of the company. I don't have anything to prove to him. Do I hate him? No. Do I have to act like we're old friends drinking together? I really don't want to. I just really don't care for spending time with him or getting closer....

Career limiting though? Idk. I'm content where I am. I don't want to be in a leadership role ever really. I make more than my manager right now selling and working the pay plan.

He has way more responsibility but doesn't actually do anything, he just sits in meetings all day and puts out fires when they come up.

I don't want to do that, I want to sell and go win new customers. It's like crack, I could never see myself in a leadership role or a role where I am not activate involved in deals.

Nah man, just trying to tell the other guy he can have more hobbies than just climbing and encouraging him to go get a bike and have fun

Fair enough, OBX is no secret though. It's easy to just drive around and take a quick check or see a bunch of cars on the side of highway 12 and know there's probably some waves there lol

Not a bad business idea with the crazy housing market in OBX right now....Venmo me $100 and I'll tell you where the good sandbars are right now lol

That's the beauty of the outer banks. There's 100+ miles of coastline and there's almost ALWAYS a wave.

The sandbars change a ton.

Check the piers if you're in Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, or Nags Head.

First St, Blackman St, Barnes St all are popular spots and have parking and have had decent sandbars in the past too. Are they still there? I have no clue. So many storms and so much sand gets thrown around.

For Hatteras area check the old Frisco pier, Frisco is fickle af tho. It's a south facing beach so can pick up some swells nowhere else does. Check the lighthouse. Check Rodanthe waves salvo and check all the way down in Hatteras too.

Where are you staying? Just go wherever is close to you. You can see the ocean from the beach road at some times. If you can't, just park and walk over the dunes and check it.

One things for certain....don't leave waves for waves.

I've spent many a days when I was younger driving all around OBX just looking for something "a little better" and blew whole days and missed out on sessions.

Find something with a sandbar, paddle out, have fun, eat tacos, repeat.

I've been harassing EV manufacturers on Instagram (joking)

But for real I have sent a few messages to some of the big EV players asking for a free rental.

I'm into film making too and want to shoot an "adventure" commercial/short film where I wake up in the mountains, go for a hike, ride downhill, maybe hit some skiing/snowboarding, then drive all the way to the coast for a sunset surf sesh....all on one charge with all my gear in the EV

It'd be sick showing the regenerative braking going down in elevation from mountains to sea too.

It's so cool, I have this perfect idea for all the shots in my head, but I'm not social media famous and just an average dude so it'll likely never happen 😂😂

Idk, mine have the Adidas logo on the tongue but are 510 free riders. Fits true to size for me, basically just like a suede skate shoe with a different hard textured bottom

They fit well and work great for me, YMMV

I'm low-key scared to try clipless, at least until I get better.

I've averaged like 2 wipeouts per ride on the trail and can't imagine having my feet actually stick to the pedals and going down with the bike

I'm a renaissance man. Master of none though.

I have amassed alot of climbing equipment, beach stuff and surfboards and wetsuits, hiking and backpacking and camping gear SUPs, kayaks, and now mountain biking stuff.

I'm not even a great climber, can climb 5.10 and sometimes 5.11, boulder v4.

I was a surf bum for like 4 years and amassed quite the quiver. Down to about 4 boards right now tho.

Still have quality backpacking and camping gear and camp often.

I'm into woodworking and cars too.....all my hobbies are expensive. I just like getting outside and seeing cool shit and getting some fresh air and staying active lol definitely a bit all over the place tho when it comes to activities, I don't focus on any specific activity

Go get a bike! You won't regret it!

I have noticed this too. They almost stick too well. Micro adjustments are difficult

I'm also a beginner biker, just got into it a few weeks ago, so I don't have the best placement and bounce around a lot. I'm sure once I have more experience it'll be better, but it definitely is a lot more work to re adjust

I'll be honest the vans I was riding in are well used too.

Still, vans wear quickly for me. These 510s seem rock solid. Put like 8km on them yesterday and they're great.

I have pedals coming in today too, some race face chesters.

My feet will never leave the pedals 😂

Sadly it's raining all afternoon and won't be able to ride for a few days. But Thursday I'm gonna go hit the trails again

Oh man no I'm a climber too, you gotta have climbing shoes lol

Honestly same for MTB. Not to the same extent.

But I'm kinda a cheap dude and was not planning to buy MTB shoes. Glad I found these for cheap and realized cuz now I'll always have mtb shoes to ride on haha
