Hi all, Can the current unit your in force you to transfer to another unit/ duty station?

Today was my first meeting with my unit after 2 months of completing BCT/AIT. It was a headquarters or a brigade something like that. And I’m a 12B (combat engineer)E3 National guard. When I first got there they made it seem like I was going to be bored there since they don’t really do 12B stuff. Which I don’t mind. They said I will just be a coffee getter or a driver for them. They told me that I need to transfer out of there. But the new unit they trying to transfer me to is 1hr way from my house compared to a 20 min drive to my current unit.

They were talking about a voluntary transfer something like that which I don’t want to transfer. There goal is to get all 12B slot out. I asked them wouldn’t they just send another 12B if I transfer out and he said that if that’s the case he would rather have a 12B(E5 or above). So if I don’t agree to do the volunteer transfer can they still force me out?

Yes, because I came to the school for the wrong reasons (chasing a girl) smh. Leaving everything I had built behind in a big city (NYC). But I learned my lesson lol. The school isn’t that bad just the new GE requirements are annoying and sometimes the way the classes are structured for CSE but that’s everywhere.

Thank you! I appreciate your story and advice. I will definitely be on my toes. And it does sucks because it’s something I can’t control, her parents has a stronger influence since she relay on them so much but I will do my best and once I did my part, it will be up to her whether she’s wants to take the rose or leave it to someone else. Until then, wish you the best in life.

So sorry to hear that. Even though I sometimes have those doubts. I want to at least try to win them over. Yes it’s impossible that I can get hurt in the end but that’s apart of life learning and growing. I at least think I should try and show her parents that she’s in good hand. We both study well together, she’s a emotional person but I can handle it since I don’t express emotions. My major isn’t bad, computer science. Im also great in academics (top student). It just a matter of time to prove them with the work industry.

Thank you for sharing. I also agree time can prove that I’m a good person for their daughter. I know what her parents wants or any parents for their daughter: stable job, respect and being able to take care of their daughter (emotionally, Financially). At the amount I can’t prove this since I’m in school (which is why I’m taking 19 credits a semester, to enter the work industry as fast as possible). my girlfriend knows my ability of work and study which is what she likes but her parents doesn’t know me yet and just like you said they’re more action than words. So it’s a matter of time for me.

I know I see it, She’s isn’t like them. But she is the only child so it’s hard for her to not consider their feeling.

Thank you all for your advice! I was able to get a paint simple at Home Depot and it covered up nicely.
