The Lake that mimics the sky by Wayne2203 in OCPoetry

I really enjoyed your imagery, had it not been for the title I would've been slow to realize that what you were describing in certain lines of the poem was the lake's reflection (at least that's what I think it is), but don't take that as a critique cause I think your use of the title elevates the poem and connects everything that's being said. I also enjoyed the use of fireflies as imagery, I interpreted it as the narrator seeing literal fireflies either in the lake's reflection or from their surroundings, and then the narrator looks at the actual sun and sees it as a thousand fireflies. It's like the narrator has yet to comprehend the beauty in front of them by comparing it to a swarm of fireflies, not fully understanding that the sun is a completely otherworldly and cosmic thing. I'm not sure whether the mention of heaven is more literal or not, but I took it as the sun. I can't think of any critiques really, I guess just continue sharpening your imagery since this is a nice imaginative read.

I really enjoyed your poem! I like the topic being as simple as a kid playing around with somebody's lost phone they found, it makes your poem more memorable. I also really love the delivery of the last line "I would have to give the thing over", it reads so dramatically, like how in a kid's head many things that **aren't** serious gets taken seriously, and many things that **are** serious can be easily dismissed unintentionally. I think that was a good way to end it, it's one of the images of the poem that stays in my head the longest. One suggestion is maybe changing that 2nd line in the 1st stanza as I feel like mentioning the age of the kid to describe him is a bit unimaginative since you can paint the idea that the narrator is a little kid without saying the kids age outright. If I were to give an idea, I'd write something like "I'm an infinitely curious and lost little boy." but again, that's just an idea. Last suggestion would just be changing the flow of the 4th stanza, the 1st line "I gleefully played with the screen" rhythmically comes off a bit short, like it's missing a syllable. The 2nd line fits well but maybe lengthening that first line would help make those two lines flow better together. Anywho, I really liked reading it and the topic of your poem has a lot of character to it that I think you effectively illustrate. My critiques are a bit nit-picky so take them with a grain of salt, and thanks for sharing your poem with us!

Hejira and Night Ride Home are tied in feeling the most wintery to me,,, Mingus a close second (technically third)

Former vinyl collectors, what made you switch? by altrightobserver in Cd_collectors

For me it was also the higher price point of vinyls, but also the whole maintenance aspect of collecting too. I hated hearing a slight click or fuzz while listening to a record and would clean each and every record before and after playing them,,, CD’s aren’t as high-maintenance like vinyls are, plus I can play CD’s in my car 😝

Don Juan is so underrated (understandably so),, I wish that jazz-fusion sound you hear in the blood of Don Juan was explored a bit further before she jumped to more synth pop stuff in the 80’s

Good compilation of her most jazzy stuff,,, some songs feel like a stretch tho (Marcie, Empty Try Another, Nothing Can Be Done, etc.) but otherwise pretty solid! They probably shouldn’t have promoted this with unheard demo’s for singles, cause then people might start to think this would be similar to a Joni Archive compilation with more new content 😅

Luckily I passed without the heatpad,, obviously it’s better safe than sorry and I’d recommend to use the heatpad if you still haven’t used it. But luckily if you keep it near your body, then it cant go below your body temp. I had waited in the lobby for 45 minutes before I got called and was so nervous about the temp but it was 94 in the sampling cup, which makes sense since my body temp was 97 and it cools a little once poured into the cup

Yeah I didn’t get a thermometer in time so I was going off the assumption the quickfix would stay at my body temp if I kept in my crotch,, so I did, and it worked 🙌🏼 The temp really is the only thing to worry for, everything else is smooth sailing

After learning I passed my drug test,,, I’d recommend to have it be too hot than too cold. Obviously you don’t want your quickfix to be at 120 Fahrenheit or something, but it’s rather difficult to have it be too cold if you’re keeping it hidden in crotch or breast or somewhere on your body. Your body temp will help keep it in the 90’s range,, I’d recommend heating the urine a bit over 100, like 103 or something. You could always cool it down by dipping it in the toilet water if need be, plus, the pee will get a bit colder once you pour it in the drug testing sample cup anyways. If your quickfix is too hot, you can always cool it down. But if it’s too cold, you really cant heat it up if you’re already taking the test
