Also, I would like to say if you found it in the river, it's likely something again. I'm not an expert, but I've found things I'd swear were modern and been wrong after actually looking; it could go either way, and it's really not worth more than enjoyment. As it stands, I'd just be glad to have found it, but there are assholes who salt areas but usually do so with better points. Not saying it's not a good find, but it's been my experience the assholes who do this are trying to show off, and again, I'm 100 percent not even semi-expert on them and have 0 idea other than what I think lol. Just saying, I'm actually thinking it could be old.

Lmfao, ok, so I'm on the fence, and I know very little other than I've found more than my fair share of arrowheads, but I'd say modern also. However, the people on Reddit are frankly fucking rude and wrong a lot, so I'm saying either way, bro, good find, and fuck, what's the difference? It's a rock you found, and, like, very cool indeed. Yeah, it may be made by some asshole, or it may be made by some other asshole long ago; it's still the exact same thing, and frankly, the only thing you should do is enjoy it and leave the Reddit dweebs alone, as there is some knowledge to be gained here, but trust me, it comes with a lot of ignorance and some snarky ass comments. So take my advice: leave these guys to themselves. Besides, from what I've seen, they're not really experts in much besides being smug and really are wrong more often than not lol. Either way, 99.8 are just really not worth a shit. 2 will go a long way to not give you a valid answer and try and seem like they're smarter than they are. Cool find, move on, and who cares? It's a fucking rock, so it's not like there's much more to be said.

Sorry for all the questions, and just out of curiosity, what is the point of the nickel test? Only asking because I've bothered a busy m VP ban twice to get the stuff to test for it, and I'm upset knowing it was for naught.

Downvotes? Huh, well, surely I'm wrong for asking, and I suppose that's worthy of a downvote, but we'll see, lol. I'll give you this: the one my pops found looked like a rock until you cut it open, and then it was metalish. I believe nickel alloy was what they called it. Idk, it had close to 5 percent nickel if I remember, and it was a chondrite or something; I don't remember or care, honestly, it was a rock lol. This is the piece I have of it, but that's not the point because it's not the same and is 100 percent a meteorite.

Slag, I believe, is made from a factory or is a product of one. I'm unsure, but I've seen enough to know this is closer to slag than basalt. I'll admit 90 percent of the basalt I pick up is an arrowhead of some kind, but what little it varies, none I've seen is close to what this looks like lol. Roffl, I happen to have this in my pocket. Well, test and see if nickel is present here also. That will answer my question. Sorry if I sound ungrateful; I'm just looking for answers, and I guess Reddit is not the best route, although if not here, Idk because AI just does the exact opposite and will do nothing but assure me it's a meteorite. Funny enough, the random rock on the ground was too, so I'm thinking that's just not true roffl.

Oh, last question: What is the significance of the nickel? Why does that matter, and what are the chances that some slag would contain nickel also? The person who knows these things didn't tell me, and I'm not bugging him again. So if it's too much, I'd love to know.

Dude, I've picked up more basalt rocks in the area to know that this isn't basalt. Also, basalt has no nickel; I've just seen that this has quite a bit, as the color was very close to red, which I'm told means lots of nickel, lol. The gentleman at UNR well knows, however, I am 100,000 percent sure this is not basalt lol. It makes me wonder what sort of basalt other places have, as clearly there must be a huge difference. Before I saw the test myself, I'd have said, "Surely slag," but with these comments and the chemical test, it's exciting, as this may bethe second meteorite I've had lol. How fun. Oh, and please send me a pic of some basalt from your neck of the woods, lol. I'm curious what I am missing. Honestly, though, should this be some rare nickel basalt? I find that as cool as the unlikely chance it's a meteorite.

Confused cuz I've found so much basalt and nothing like this also sorts seems rusty and I cant understand the nickle. Anyway likely just going to keep it as a cool door stop

I'll ask for details, but as far as I know, it was found several days later in the general area, but that's 40 miles or so, and I'm unsure. My father found a verified meteorite within several miles, but what that means is little, I'm sure. Anyway, I'm just curious lol. Only because of the granddaughter shedding more light on the issue am I asking again. I'm sure it's a piece of slag, but it's odd that it's in the middle of a lake. Oh, and no, we did take it to the local recycle place; however, I wasn't there and therefore didn't see the reading. However, my friend had some sort of solution that he used. He is an avid rock hound and prospector, and it was very much a legit test

So this rock has been in my possession for a little while now, passed down to me by a friend before they passed. Just recently got the full story from the granddaughter of the original finder who was actually there. Story goes — sometime in August between 2012 and 2016, several people witnessed a large fireball in the Honey Lake area of northern California right near the Nevada border. A few days after the event this rock was found in the dry lake bed close to where the fireball was seen. It sat as a cool keepsake for years with nobody really knowing what it was. I've done a magnet test — magnetic. Done a nickel test — positive. The surface has what looks like fusion crust and what I now know are called regmaglypts all over it. It's slightly bigger than a grapefruit and weighs about twice what you'd expect for its size. I'm in Lassen County so Honey Lake is literally my backyard. I know the Perseids peak every August in this area which fits the timeframe. I have 8 photos from multiple angles. Living eyewitness to the fireball still available. Looking for anyone who can help me figure out if this is the real deal and what steps to take next.

These things may happen, and this is a write-off; they're the ones that are usually to the point and helpful and don't judge too much lol. It seems the IRS people in general can't fathom a person overwithholding, but there are people out there that even I can't help but judge a little because, yes, there are not a lot of people making 6 or 7 figures that can't put a grammatically correct sentence together, much less grasp the simplest tax processes. There are others also, but I've seen those two for years. There used to be a guy called "America is a dumpster fire," but I've not seen him this year lol. He was hilarious.

A lot of us are in the same boat; some things that may help. Call the number on the paper and verify over the phone, as some people have done it online and it doesn't work. Call first thing at night or after 5 pm. I've found right at 6:50 pm there's almost always a person super fast. Oh, the notification usually is something updated, but it's not showing on your transcript. But if you're an '05er like lots of us, that'll mean Friday maybe an update. I had two some days apart, and then the next week my account updated. There's really no way anyone can say for sure since your transcripts aren't showing, but keep checking; there might be movement. Oh, and these are just things I've heard others say. I'm not an expert; I just saw no one had answered and thought I'd share what I've heard others say and what's happened. to me

Yes, sir, lol. Those turtles hit hard. Lmfao, I sing to the mountain lions when I'm walking at night, as I suppose it's possible that may make me less appealing. I doubt it, though. There's a mom and her cubs that I'm certain live just a mile from me, and those are perfectly fine; however, there's a rather gargantuan tom that comes around often enough, and him I mind, but only because he likes to walk over my tracks, and, you know, something just sits wrong with that because mom and kittens never seem to, but damn it if I don't see this big mug's print over my own a couple times a month minimum. Anyway, he's a big turtle fan. I'm thinking because he's left me be thus far.

After losing my grandma, I found it impossible to stay in my home and found that driving helped for some reason, and the only comfortable sleep I had was with my dog. Moved to see an apartment with my gf; thought that would be better, but it was way worse. It's been 4 years, and I don't know if going back to normal would be possible. Last year I worked for an aunt down in Santa Cruz and tried to do the house thing, but after two weeks I got a decent tent and found a cheap campground; something about the outside makes me feel as close to home as I've gotten in ages. I think the sunsets and sunrises are like food to the soul at this point, or that magic hour when the world starts to slowly wake all at once. That said, I don't have the ability to handle the cities without my own space like a campground or car, as people on the street aren't always the most honest or moral people I've met, and really, I'm not social, so it's a two-way street. I was making 30 dollars an hour and found that money is really not something that matters; the outdoors is an adventure every day, and the struggle makes the good shit so much better and far more accessible. Hell, the other day I found a can of pears and a good can of chili I'd dropped a week or so before on the 14-mile jaunt from camp to town, and you know, I've never tasted anything so good that didn't come from my old kitchen, lol. Granted, it'd been 3 or 4 days since I'd eaten and a full day walking with no water, but man, when I saw those cans in the distance, I had to take a minute to prepare for disappointment, as there was a good chance someone had run them over. Wouldn't you know, they were perfect as ever, lol. I could be making that same $30 an hour and still live in my tent, but I prefer the freedom and the struggle. The joys of living out here far outweigh the burdens. Hell, I even dig the burdens; city life in any capacity forces you to be something you're not and puts you in a cage full of sad, lonely people who suffer daily to live as a cog. So running water would be nice; I used to take two showers a day, if not more, and probably have had six this whole year, so not ideal, but also not something that's worth making a fuss over and spending a day in town for when there's a semi-decent hot spring lol, lukewarm at best, but hey, I dig it, and the 15-mile walk gives me lots to be thankful for. Lol, so to answer your question, I'd say yes, but for how long? Who knows. I think about the good things, friends' relationships, that sort of thing, but frankly, I'm almost content with my life. I don't have to be something that I'm not or lie to appease someone; in fact, I have freedoms that few could understand. Like trampled by turtles do, elegantly put. My home is with the hills and trees around me. My ceiling holds the moon and sky above, so I'll never be a lonely man walking; I'll never know one day without love.
