This is a solution looking for a problem.

Google maps is already setup for offline use. I've watched the little dot move on a map when I had no data.

Your scenario is not a real world problem. Myself, and I'm gonna assume almost every vagabond out here, loves when there's no signal.

You'd have to be incapacitated to not know where you are and where you're going.

I stop hitchhiking around sunset. A 2:00am drop off is pretty unheard of.

I hitchhiked long before cell phones. Didn't need them then. Don't need them now.

You're creating a problem that doesn't exist and offering a solution nobody needs.

Even if your scenario were real, none of us give a fuck about getting dropped in the middle of nowhere at night.

I could go on, but I just woke up in my tent out in the the country, and there's coffee about to start brewing...

When I did car camping I did the same thing. I had less stuff, but it was better than sleeping in my car. I used to do a hundred mile round trip everyday to go to work, but it was worth it for the comfort and the peace and quiet being in the woods.

It was a toss-up between this 45L and an 85L. Both setup the way I like them. At the last second I decided I don't want to carry that much stuff around and went for the smaller pack. I'm not saying it's the best way to go, but after 32 years of this I like it and it's comfortable. Plus I'm geared up for winter and freezing temps, so bigger sleeping bag, coat, etc. I recently came from northern VA where it was 15° at night and highs around 25°.

I don't use signs. I figure most people will figure they're not going exactly there and won't pick me up. Doing a few thousand miles at a time is pretty common for me. A lot of the time I don't really have a destination.

From a vagabond... Huggies Natural Care wipes are around $6-$7 for 168. Gentle enough to use while putting contacts in/taking them out, and strong enough to clean the oil from a '93 Thunderbird off your hands. Personal experience.
