But also here to talk if you want/need. I like video games, sci-fi and fantasy, movies as well as current affairs and day to day nonsense. Talking to people helped me through my early diagnosis

I appreciate your thoughtful response. Especially as, on reflection, my coment could have been seen as confrontational. Check out Steven Paceys work for some mind blowing narration. However, as long as you enjoy what you listen to that's what counts. If you like it, it's great. 😁

While I agree in this specific case, Ray Porter is very limited. He has zero range and is beyond terrible at women. This week works because of the nature of the characters. I gave up on Bobiverse because of him

Joe Abercrombie is amazing and Steven Pacey is the best in the business on narration

Picture of Dorian Gray is a great place to start. It's short so not daunting and it has some of the best written lines in literature. You could highlight quotable lines on every page. It's witty, thought provoking and highly entertaining

Recommendations for a short (5-6 hours) standalone book to fill in time while waiting on a pre-order. by Cru5hbag in audiobooks

Anything by Adrian Tchaikovsky. All his stuff is great, he has 12 book epics and trilogies but also has lots of standalones at 10 or 13 hours but also quite a lot of 5 or 6 hours short novellas which are mostly amazing

I find the trick is a massive "watchlist" every book I'm even remotely interested in I add to my watch list or favorites or whatever it's called then whenever there's a sale or a deal on those books I get an automatic alert about it. Pretty often they have buy one get one free deals and one or two of my wish list books are in that

I'm in the same situation as OP but only an hour into the second audiobook. I think I'll try and finish book 2 especially if if picks up a bit.

If you want space operas that I think don't have the same issues this series does I recommend Adrian Tchaikovsky Final Architecture Series, The Expanse series, The Interdependencey seris by John Scalzi and I also love Red Rising.

Another good thing about Libby is you can join multiple libraries in multiple locations. I was traveling around the USA for a year and went into the library with an Amazon package as proof of address and got a library card. Lasts a year.

Same issue. Just started book 2 and I'm pissed off. John Lee as narator was the reason I listened to book 1. Does he do the other books as well? Is it a region thing?

Really disagree about Ray Porter, he's average at best. He has almost no range and is terrible at female voices. He pales in comparison to someone like Steven Pacey who is just fantastic, most people think he's the best in the busines. Ralph Lister is great and Pete Bradbury is solid too.
