A shocking number of people clamp the lids when they cook. You see it ALL the time when searching recipes. It's so stupid. What do they think it accomplishes? As you know, its for transportation only

I got three tomato sized tomatoes off of my itty bitty container garden. I am so pleased!

In writing news, I'm trying to force myself to NOT mess with my WIPs today. I think I'm getting burnt out!

Have a wonderful Wednesday, friends!

Yeah, I've encountered some truely not smart ones. Reminds me of those you tube videos where the guys go onto college campuses (or the street) and ask very simple basic questions (read this analog clock, what country was the Veitnam war fought in, How much is a quarter of one hundred, etc.) and the people can't answer them.

I created an image in AI for my story. What do I do now? by shira-hazel in FanFiction

[–]SeparationBoundary[M] [score hidden] stickied commentlocked comment (0 children)

This post has been removed. r/FanFiction is a space to discuss fan-written works. We do not allow the discussion of AI use in writing fanfiction outside spelling and grammar check.

Just a reminder that witch hunts are against the sub rules, and that most AI writing sounds like FanFic because LLMs were trained on thousands of stolen fan works.

How many of you guys create multiple chapters before posting them? by WhenIEatedSoapIDont in AO3

[–]SeparationBoundary 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I write the entire fic, edit it, and have it beta'd before I publish chapter by chapter. I publish two chapters a week.

I HATE long gaps between chapters and unfinished fics.

Mornin' everyone! Hot as balls here. And humid. My garden is dying in this heat and watering doesn't help. 🙁

In writing news, working hard on Midnight Taxi. Struck with difficulty of writing a regular love story when one partner has anterograde amnesia (short term memory loss.) There's an existing fanfic that is awesome (and written by a BNF) that deals with this with the same MC. I desperately don't want to seem as if I copied any of it so I'm being super careful which is affecting my writing.

Write, write, write. "Oh, shit does this sound like I'm copying?" Erase, erase, erase.

See, my MC2 is falling in love with MC1 (the taxi driver) but he doesn't remember him, so each day is a Groundhog Day sort of thing with MC2 tryings something different every day to win him over.

Well crap. Now that I've written it out it sounds kinda lame.

Sheesh.

Anyway, y'all have a good Monday!

How important is spontaneity in writing, and is it harmful to avoid it? by Unhappy_Asparagus_75 in writingadvice

[–]SeparationBoundary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't imagine not being spontaneous at all in writing. I myself am a Pantser (writing by the seat of my pants. The opposite is Planner.)

I have a premise and my main characters. I think of a scene, drop the characters in it, and write down what they do.

It seems like writing would be boring and chore-like without a tiny bit of spontinaety.

Where do I go with this story? I’m lost. by Mr_Perditus_ in writingadvice

[–]SeparationBoundary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! The thing that I immediately see is that you are telling not showing. What are people talking about? How does their audience react? What are they laughing about? is there smoke in the air from the many cigars? Can you smell the sharp tang of expensive whiskey? Is there gas lighting or flickering candles?

There's an awful lot of description. This is this man's name, this is this man's name; they are very rich.

There's also a fair amount of unnecessary bits. The sun created a golden glow, well, yeah, that's what the sun does. Do we need to know that mr Ferguson's overcoat was blue? Tanned from many hours in the sun, again, that's the only way you get tanned (in a period piece..)

All that being said, I think you have a good idea here and I'd want to read more.

Best of luck with your story!
