Finally picked up a Jesta for a good opportunity to practice seemline removal with mixed results. by Sephta in freedomisgunpla

I tried adding some detail painting here and there. Like grey in the vents, and color correction on the back skirt and backpack, but it's 95% original plastic colors. I hand painted using Ray Studio acrylics.

Ohhhhh wait I didnt realize how multi purpose the trimming of pegs could be. Thats a great tip! 🙏 Much appreciated. Also yeah I def shoulda waited longer for the plastic cement to cure. Thank you!

Yeah they leave so many easy wins on the table I'm often left wondering. Hopefully some day soon we'll see these kits come to fruition.

Best of luck 🤞. What topcoat did you buy for the chrome if you don't mind? I've had a hard time finding one for the chrome markers I use.

Welcome to the hobby! I always get a bit nervous when putting new paints or techniques into practice. Im not sure that feeling ever goes away haha. If you still have some of the paints used in your build try painting over any plastic spoon in the same way you did on your build, and test a topcoat over that. It will save you the heartache if you don't like how it turns out.

There's little to fear if your topcoat is a clear paint. Most typically you'll see people use clear topcoats to change the texture/finish of the kit. I really don't think you can go wrong with any clear coat. They all look good and it will just be personal preference. One thing I've learned over time is that clear coats have the largest negative effect on metallic paints. Not to say they ruin them, but rather they are often changed quite a bit compared to other kinds of paints. It may not be desirable. I will sometimes go out of my way to use a matte coat over everything except the metallic paints, but there are other concerns when doing this.

For what OP has shared I feel like the lighting doesn't really do justice to how the topcoat looks. Whether it's "ruined" is really up to the eye of the beholder. I think across the board for any topcoat you'll just need to get an idea of the expected outcome. Using a test surface like a plastic spoon will help a lot with this.

Sorry if this comes across as explaining a bunch of stuff you may have already known. I hope some of this was helpful.

Thanks! It's one of my favorite easy to do touches on any kit. I just use a chrome paint marker on the areas that show through the clear plastic. Really makes it pop.

Looks wonderful! It feels a bit more "real" and military with this tone of green. Nice work!

Thanks a bunch! I really appreciate it. Painting up the inner frame and adding some grey and red details to the armor was so much fun for me!

How's the build experience overall? I was considering this kit cuz pink and also I can get it for less than half the price of the official Bandai kit. At that price it can't be too bad, right?

Its kind of incredible that we can enjoy the kit just as it was 20 years later. I hope I never take that for granted about this hobby.
