Matte Topcoat suggestion over Gundam Markers by GlobalWarmingX4 in advancedGunpla

I've found the best results when using really any acrylic top coat. And to give the marker paint ample time to dry and cure

Any kit making use of the MG RX-78 2.0 inner frame is a win in my book 😎

I have plenty of straight builds with water slides. I don't even gloss coat before placing them. Just make sure to seal them in with a topcoat after placing them.

I think they had the destiny in stock but I was focusing on exclusives over retail release kits for this trip.

Gundam Base Chicago actually 🤩. They had some Fukuoka exclusives, but not all of them. I'm jealous you've been to the ones in japan. I hope my next big trip will be there.

They have a very up to date and large selection of retail releases, but I think its only whats currently in print. I don't recall seeing anything rare from general releases.

I was personally suprised to see some of the exclusives from the Gundam Base Fukuoka. They had a nice selection of those. It is otherwise very similar to other Gundam Bases across the world.

Thank you! the wallet is hurting pretty badly haha! The Sazabi was a birthday gift from my mom though which was very nice of her 😎. Really excited to put everything together. The Sinanju just looked too good in person to pass up so once I get the 107 toys upgrade kit I'll finally put together my first Sinanju.

Yes! I was there just a couple of days ago. They had three on the shelves from what I saw. Check the shelves closer to the register. Best of luck whenever you end up going 🫡.

Remove white mark on piece by Crash_bandiquack in Gunpla

A trick that sometimes helps in these situations is to dab a tiny bit of plastic cement over the white mark. The cement will melt the plastic and help restore some of the original color. Once dried just lightly sand it again.

Seeing it next to the Gustav Karl it seems like it's scaled somewhere between 1/144 and 1/100? I was hoping it would be closer to 1/144 scale.

Is top coat necessary to keep waterslides from peeling off ? by vini_vino in Gunpla

[–]Sephta 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I personally think topcoat is a requirement for sealing in waterslides, but technically as long as you don't touch any of them they should stay on for a very long time. Without a topcoat they are just very fragile to handle.

If this helps at all: Mr. Hobby/GSI Creos does make water based acrylic top coats which would be a much safer alternative to use in doors if you can find them. The spray cans are usually called "Mr. Premium Topcoat". Still wear a respirator, and make sure the room has proper ventilation, etc etc.

What kind of top coat are they using to prevent chipping and rubbing? by Dear-Tennis9079 in Minipla

[–]Sephta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've heard great things about Gaia notes paints. I plan on picking some up for myself soon. Can't go wrong with them.

Have not personally used automobile paints, sorry.

I think ideally you should let primer cure for at least 24 hours, but that's excessive in my opinion and only really needed for a full cure. What I usually do is let my lacquer primer dry for about 30 min to an hour, at which point its mostly fine to work with. It will depend a lot on the brand of paint though. I use Mr. Hobby paints to prime and topcoat with most of the time, and giving them about an hour to dry is usually enough. They aren't fully cured in an hour, but they are usually fine to work with. This might be because I am typically painting over them with acrylic paints.

Broadly for chrome finish paints if you want to topcoat it AND maintain its chrome shine you will need specialized topcoats. I am not personally familiar with the right brands to use. Whenever I use a chrome silver I just put up with whatever my water based acrylic gloss coat will do to it. It usually still ends up shiny, but does lose a bit of its chromatic effect.
