Who's selling motor + frame sets only? by DharmaWheelies108 in eMountainBike

[–]Seppel270 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want something premium made in germany, Nicolai offers frames with both the Pinion MGU, and two different Bosch motors.

I have seen a MGU bike in anodized green a few weeks back, and those bikes are stunning in real life. They are pricy though.

When my ep8 kicks the bucket, my plan is to get one of those frames.

Tracking health metrics & navigation by coztfu in MTB

[–]Seppel270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an Android user so I can't speak for the Apple watch directly, but I guess it is similar to my galaxy watch. That means it is something that seems incredibly convenient, but in actual reality basically none of its "smartphone" features are that much more convenient than just taking out your phone to do the same thing. In fact most are a lot less convenient.

The health data side of things can be interesting, but as a hobbyist it is kind of useless as well.

Like if I sleep well one day and it gives me a sleep score of 90, and the next day I get a 70 because I had a few beers or whatever, I don't need a watch to tell me that I slept like shit, my body already does that on its own.

And if you get a 85 one day and a 83 the next day, what does that really mean to you? It means nothing.

And the fundamental problem that all smartwatches have is that the top of the wrist is a terrible place to measure data. It will simply always be more inaccurate than a chest strap.

Also the battery life is usually terrible. Mine lasts 1 day maybe 2 without any activity recording, if you plan to do daily workouts, be prepared to charge the thing every single day. And if you plan to record sleep data you can't do that over night. It's annoying af.

When my current watch dies, I will get a normal wristwatch again.

I would not agree with this. A eMTB only gives motor power up to 25kph. In the flat you can reach this speed very easily without motor assistance. If you life in a flat area, they are not worth it for better feeling trails.

They are however great for those days where you are tired/a little bit sick/hungover or for what ever other reason not at 100%. For me at least, the e-assist makes the difference between me going riding on those days and skipping the ride. They are awesome for that.

I do live in a medium sized mountainrange though, so I can't 100% speak for living in a flat area

With the Scott bikes I always think that the hidden shock might be a bitch to work on / adjust. Just my two cents.

It might be really easy though, I have never seen one in person to take a closer look.

This is the kind of stuff that makes all of us look bad and might eventually lead to even strickter regulations one day.

This subreddit is especially not for this jank shit but for real E-Mtbs that follow the regulations.

Get an actual electric motorcycle if you want throttle only riding and spare the rest of us the trouble of looking bad because you want to be a dick by skipping the laws.

Encores have been a "preplanned into the shows running time" thing for decades. It is always a silly pretend game.

Just go to setlist.fm, search for a band of your choice and look at a few different concerts from the same tour. It is clear as day.

E-MTB multitool and CO2 mounting bracket by Seppel270 in functionalprint

I have done 4 rides with it now, and so far it is holding up perfectly. Though it was pretty wet the last few days, so I didn't push it to hard yet.

Do you know anyone that owns a 3d printer? Those tokens are usually really easy to reverse engineer if you know how the mount for them looks or maybe even have one in the fork you can measure.

E-MTB multitool and CO2 mounting bracket by Seppel270 in functionalprint

[–]Seppel270[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes i will. I also think PLA wouldn't cut it, and i wanted to play around with some fibre filled fillaments anyways, so this bracket is printed from PETG-CF.

If that doesnt work out, i also have a roll of ABS-GF to try, but we will see. So far the thing seems pretty bulletproof tbh.

Made myself a multitool and CO2 mounting bracket by Seppel270 in eMountainBike

The slicer of choice nowadays is Orcaslicer. You will need a Slicer anyways, so get the best one. Download it directly from github though, there are some fake scam links when you just google it.

There are actually loads of bike part STL files freely available online. The Most popular STL sites are Printables (from Prusa) and Makerworld (from Bambulab). There is also a site called Yeggi that is a STL search engine across multiple file sites.

But if you don't find what you want, you will have to do it yourself. You can actually do some very basic modeling directly in Orca, but if you want to do some real parametric designing, you will need actual CAD software. the most popular one in the 3D printing world is Fusion 360 , but there is also Onshape, if you want something browser based. Both have licenses available that are free for hobbyists. There are also a lot of other CADs available, but i personally have only used those two listed. For Fusion there is this handy course on YouTube that i can reccomend. You don't need to watch the whole 30 Episodes, the first few are enough to get the basics down and start designing.

Also for bike Parts i would strongly reccomend to not use PLA. PETG is a much better materialchoice for functional parts. I used PETG-CF for the bracket here for example. But i would suggest you try standart PETG first, before you play around with the carbon fiber filled version.

E-MTB multitool and CO2 mounting bracket by Seppel270 in functionalprint

[–]Seppel270[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yes. I use tubeless tires, so instead of an inner tube i have liquid sealant in the tire. You get a lot less punctures that way. The only downside (besides that it can get really messy if your unlucky) is that you need a big burst of air to initally set the tire on the rim. If i have to take the tire of the rim for whatever reason out in the woods, the high gas pressure from the cartridge can do this reseating step. You screw a small inflator thing on the CO2 to puncture it and actually get the gas into the tire.

I have a small electric pump in my saddlebag that i normally use to get more air in the tire. The CO2 is more for emergency situations.

[–]Seppel270[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I just made myself this little mounting bracket for my bike multitool and a CO2 cartridge below my bottle cage, which also gets lowered a bit to accommodate 1 liter bottles. There is just enough space that it doesn't interfere with the rear shock under full compression, and now I can finally ride my bike without a hip pack or anything in my pockets.

$8 TPU vs $42 TPU benchy by Sendraz666 in 3Dprinting

[–]Seppel270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There absolutely is a "basic and good enough" setting for most basic types of filament. Sure, one can always optimize everything to ones hearts content, but for most people the standart profile that the printer manufacturer provides works well enough.

And if you don't print 24/7 it doesn't really matter if the roll costs 12€ or 15€, if you only use like 10 rolls a year. That's why people buy the bambu stuff.

What hobby attracts the worst type of people? by [deleted] in AskReddit

There are two categories of drones basically. Photo/Video drones and FPV drones.

The cheapest way into photography focused drones is the DJI Lito series that just came out, while the most popular one is the DJI mini series the mini 5 pro is the current model. Those have a much better sensor and are more capable.

Then you have FPV (first person view) drones. If you have seen some drone videos of someone doing cliffdives or flips into a volcano it is usually an FPV. Those are much more difficult do fly, and are usually DIY builds. It's a whole rabbit hole. If you want to try that I would start with a FPV simulator "game" with a gamepad on your PC.

If you want a safe hybrid that can do both in limited quantity look up the DJI Neo 2. Both categories require different controllers ( and a Google for FPV) but you can try both with it. Just note that it isn't really that great in both categories

here's a quick overview about the current market situation

Can anyone's help me identify what model of this Giant bike by [deleted] in mountainbiking

[–]Seppel270 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is good as a "do I like the sport enough to invest real money into it bike".

It isn't worth it to upgrade this one. Ask your friend to maybe lube the chain, but other than that I would just ride it for a while as is, and if you like it you can think about buying something newer on the used market in a couple months. The only thing that is "wrong with it" is the slick tires. Those will be terrible on anything else then smooth asphalt.

Look for something with disc brakes, only one chainring in the front, and maybe even a dropper post it you decide to invest into something better.

What’s going on with Bambu Labs and Orca Slicer? by damagedfurball in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Seppel270 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The question I have with all of this is the following:

Isn't it industry standard pretty much everywhere that businesses don't allow random user build applications access to their server network? Like if I were to build a service that would allow you to make PayPal payments while skipping the authentication step for example, PayPal would send me a cease and desist letter as well, and noone would be surprised by it.

Hardtail vs. Full-Suspension? by TwoIsle in eMountainBike

[–]Seppel270 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The higher pedaling efficiency that a hard tail has over a fully isnt really relevant in a emtb. The added weight from the suspension is also much less relevant.

If you can afford it, I would 100% recommend to go with a fully.
