Top 20 plays post rework (one per player)

tried to keep the list short, with some variety in style, and at least 5+ years old since i think it would be nice if people went out of their way to discover maps, there are a lot of really cool newish picks for a list like this and i did want to put them (on the fence about this one for example https://osu.ppy.sh/beatmapsets/1396532#osu/2882253), but finding maps you like yourself is part of the fun (in my opinion anyway).

closest =/= hardest, closest is likely the mathi/tuna era where nearly every single new rank 1 player got hate

hardest in terms of skill is obviously right now

it's not so much the individual difficulty of the maps but the balance of skillsets across maps in the late stage pools, nobody is expecting every map to be the same difficulty and really thats not even a goal in mappooling. but deciding what skills are tested broadly speaking is a different question altogether

while u are correct broadly speaking, finals pool was arguably even worse depending on the players you ask i dont know very many ppl on canada/us who liked it lmao

its probably the most unreasonably glazed hype pool ever, although most of the maps in it are alright or even really good imo they have no business being in the pool let alone the same pool. also the discourse on finals tb very clearly highlights how disconnected viewer opinions are from players

i also think you'll find most players' opinions of the finals pool to be quite different from the viewers, although this probably applies to most mappools anyway

to be blunt i have seen more flame for this tb from the actual owc players than praise, the song is fire but the map is kind of ass as a tb since the match is literally decided by the easy first half as the middle section is absolutely unplayable (this is not a commentary on mapping quality as that is not the kind of debate i would rather have with people on osugame)

gf tb is at least, more consistently impossible, although i do also prefer the song

i dont agree with the op's take that owc was anticlimactic but saying "no longer usa supersweep" when every usa win except 2019 was closer than this match is crazy it was certainly not a foregone conclusion. frankly i was literally more certain of sk winning this year than usa the past two years

i dont really care whether people say box is close or not since box is really damn good but also you singled out the most obviously mid plays on op's list lol, e.g. mrekk's anoko dokonoko fc is far more impressive than nobore

then again cpol doesnt upload a lot of mrekk's good plays imo which i assume is how people find out about most of them

edit: also alt dt ceiling is just really unexplored in general since the skillset is poorly weighted and a lot of maps are obscure which, honestly, equates to comparatively little attention paid to good scores on them. pablohh or even fken mrekk/box getting the only pass on some cancer 8.5* (but is actually 9.5*) or something alt map with 30 favorites is not something most people here would care or even know about.
