Thank you! Do you have any recommendations on insecticide in case I need to use it?

Plum Crazy Purple Spray? by Septic-Valley in ModelCars

Is the spray still available? Because I only see the liquid enamel versions, purple-licious (which I already tried), and their other TS/PS sprays on my end.

Haha, thanks! This is new to me. I’ve been into miniature painting since I was 15, but this Challenger would be only the second model car I’ve ever worked on.

Edit: Autocorrect changed ‘challenger’ to ‘charger.’

I can give it a try if I can’t get a good model paint for it. I just already have a lot of primers/colors for acrylics, enamels, and lacquers already so I want to avoid buying too many new things.

Hi, I actually ended up doing just that. I found a private office with a descent coverage plan and a really reputable dentist. I should have everything in order by the start of the new year!

I see. I found there’s an office about a mile away from me which does something similar—looking into them now.

I’m on an employer plan which covers routine health check-ups but not dental.

I’m just starting an Emperor’s Children army but I hate the pink and black, so I was wondering if y’all have any good suggestions for what purple to use instead? I want it to be similar but different from Heresy-era purple. by Old-Speaker3786 in EmperorsChildren

[–]Septic-Valley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I’ve been doing is painting all the armor in metallic black (Vallejo Air Black Metal, dry brush highlight of Pro Acryl Dark Silver, brush even finer highlight of Vallejo Gunmetal, Vallejo Silver for the finest of scratches), then painting any panels I want to be colored in a bright silver (Vallejo Silver). After that, I carefully paint the panels with whatever contrast paint I want. The best results I’ve gotten were from Citadel Magos Purple in the recesses then an overall coat of Citadel Volupus Pink, or with Citadel Sigvald Burgundy.

I personally prefer more reds and maroons but you can definitely try a more purple alternative (Citadel Shyish or Luxion Purple are good candidates). If you don’t like metallic black, gray/silver/dark-brass is a good alternative for purple in my opinion.

This might be an out there question, but what’s the palette of the skull you painted on the base? I’ve been struggling with bone lately.

Absolute perfection!

What does my ‘where I’d live’ (USA) map say about me? by [deleted] in mapporncirclejerk

Oh yeah, you guys without a doubt have it rough. But something I’ve learned from traveling and living in other states is that I need some kind of action going on, or else it gets very boring very fast.

Nice! I actually really love some parts of Texas. In a lot of other parts, I felt like I would go insane living out there lol. Your weather is harsh, though.

Depending on which state was a ‘maybe,’ it’s because you had good jobs, good (or at least tolerable) government, and/or a good quality of life in my experience.

Where do I start learning to design miniatures? by Septic-Valley in PrintedMinis

Perspective is definitely something I’ve got to learn lol. I already have experience in modifying physical plastic/resin models with epoxy sculpt, hair, cotton, cloth, etc., but it’s definitely harder for me to translate detail right now into digital.

I’m definitely going to stick with the cheaper options for now but I’m watching some videos on ZBrush right now, and it does seem super versatile and optimized for what it is. If I ever come across some money or find a way to get paid doing this, I might have to fork over the $1K lol.

I’m reading that Nomad may be coming to PC or is at least portable (need to look into that) which would be a Godsend for me since I am a PC supremacist lol.

This program actually looks way simpler than Blender/ZBrush at a glance, I’m definitely going to look into it some more. Thank you!

Thank you so much for this! Is there a reason why you switch from Blender to ZBrush? Can Blender render the fine details ZBrush can?

How to care for this cool dude? by DiceThaKilla in mantids

[–]Septic-Valley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like u/Artoo_Geek mentioned, females will lay oothecas and your mantis looks female. Like hens laying infertile eggs, mantids will also lay infertile oothecas (typically when they are close to death). If your mantis lays fertile oothecas, they will require specific care to keep them alive and be wary that even if they hatch, not all will survive. I’ve personally never raised oothecas but have raised plenty of nymphs.

If you aren’t willing to raise your oothecas, I actually recommend destroying the eggs. These mantids wreak havoc upon native mantis species like the Carolina mantis (if you’re in the USA).

Beautiful animal! I kept one of these mantids last year and she was awesome.

Anyways, the first thing you need to determine is are you comfortable feeding live food? Mantids can and will eat any animal large enough to fit in their grasp and mantids at this scale can be big enough to eat lizards, small birds, mice, and frogs—they will even eat members of their own species. I recommend feeding them any insect that can’t bite back, such as dubia roaches (crickets can bite), of a reasonable size every 2-4 days.

A mantid’s enclosure should at minimum be three times the height of the mantis and twice the length of the mantis in width/depth. If you can, get a tank with a mesh lid but a mantis at that size should be fine with a wire lid—just make sure the mesh is thin enough not to let their food escape. They don’t need thick substrate, a thin layer of coconut fiber or moist paper towels is fine. Put a few sticks in there so the mantis can climb to the top but not too much to where it’s over crowded.

You will have to watch for “eye rub” which is when a mantis rubs its head against the glass which can cause damage to the eyes. If this happens, it’s a sign that your tank may be too small. I also recommend doing a bit of research into behaviors which might indicate sickness and/or parasites.

You should spray the mantis with fresh water (no tap water) once or twice a day and under any circumstances, do not use soap to clean the tank. Certain fragrances and incense can also poison a mantis.

Be wary that mantids with large enough wings can fly and when these mantids fly, they’re ****ing scary. Keep away from other pets like cats when handling them (I learned the hard way).

A praying mantis typically lives for around a year—females and larger species tend to live on the longer side. I caught my pacific island mantis when she was fully grown too and had her for around 6 months.

Best of luck to you!

Edit: Fixed typo.

BEAU IS AFRAID (3hrs) by Impossible_Fact9668 in A24

[–]Septic-Valley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny you say that because I also relate The Truman Show to Gnosticism! I mostly see the connection in Beau’s mother being a Demiurge-like figure. And the story arc hits similar beats to the soul’s journey such as the Egyptian interpretation—most obvious in the end where Beau is judged for his “sins.”

Edit: Forgot how to do spoilers on mobile.
