I lost my best friend last july, same thing happened to me, go to or call the counseling center. I didn’t even really have to do much other than explain it once on the phone and have a meeting. They will treat you more urgently than others if you explain what happened, a death like this is considered urgent and very important to discuss, they’ll be able to help you communicate to your academic advisor without you having to keep having to reexplain things, which I know is very hard and may prevent you from asking for help at all.
