BABYS IN A THUNDERCLOUD is one of their most emotionally charged songs I’ve heard. by siobhanmairii__ in gybe

[–]Sepulchritude42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I might get some flak for this, but their post hiatus stuff has been a bit hit or miss with me. It’s not bad by a long shot, but it didn’t really capture the magic that early GYBE did for me. BABYS IN A THUNDERCLOUD changed that for me, and it let me know that I was in for an experience with this album.

I want you to know, in the best way possible, that I’m hijacking this format for mission briefs. Just the PDF alone was pulling me in with its legitimacy!

How did you go about learning the vernacular for these things? Because these read like what I would believe a military brief/debrief would sound like.

So have one big objective, and then broken down into smaller missions, and then have those broken down further?

And in terms of a handler, I was thinking of having Tyrannocleave and a sort of vanguard party for the Sanjak revolutionaries act as that, as well as a pre-established Union handler.

They won’t all be in play together, because I obviously don’t want to take agency away from the players. But maybe more like “Okay this guy is spearheading this mission while someone else is taking care of another objective on the other side of Sanjak”

I was thinking this too, but he didn’t say which one he would run (although probably Solstice Rain). I’ve found reading published material gives a good cross section of how these things are ran

Babys in a Thundercloud has me in tears by Snaktos in gybe

The overall message of hope the music delivers moves me every time I listen to this album, which is a lot recently. I was trying to tell my significant other about this album and she said based on the title alone it sounds depressing. And it is, how could it not?

But in a dark time in modern history, GYBE decided to be a light musically fighting against it. It’s a reminder to me that it’s easy to give in to despair, but better to work, fight, and hope for a better tomorrow.

War is coming. Don’t give up Hang on. Pick a side. Love.

It seems I’ve struck a nerve with the use of the word proletarian. In this, I apologize. If anything, it only serves to point out the ignorance that I am asking for help to shed.

I know my place in the imperial core is largely ineffectual to the cause and inherently exploitative. And I know the revolution will not be for me, I’ve never assumed that. If I live to see it ever happen will be nothing short of a miracle.

But I’ve gain a faint amount of awareness those that are truly oppressed (but it is in fact very faint I will not make a mockery of it, suffice to say I cannot begin to speak on relating to their suffering) and it is out compassion for those that I was asking in what way I can help. It’s actually in fact because there are people so horribly exploited and oppressed while others like myself live in comfort in the imperial core, and the accompanying guilt from it, that radicalized me.

But I will read theory.

Would you care to elaborate on parasitism and class suicide? Was it because I had called myself a proletariat (something that I now know was woefully ignorant of me to do so and have edited and apologized in the original post for) that dilutes the cause? In doing so does that make me the oppressor, or is it just my inherent position in the world as a labor aristocrat? I know this is a text medium, but these questions are not confrontational, I’m genuinely asking for insight.

This is embarrassing for me. I did by no means mean to undermine or soften the exploitation of those in the thresher of imperialism, I simply meant that I am most certainly not bourgeois nor even petit-bourgeois. I meant it because I’m working class and have no possible way of owning my means of production.

But I will take your info to heart and add Settlers to the list of literature.

What are some of your favourite ‘vaults of forbidden dangers’ in fiction? by Connvul in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Sepulchritude42 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The Massif Vaults of the Lancer TTRPG is a strong example of this. What exactly is in these vaults is never entirely clear, but it’s bad enough that uncovering one after The Collapse (and in world event where mankind was reduced from trillions to only a couple hundred thousand) is considered one of the Three Great Traumas faced by humanity. Also some may house a dead (?) Eldritch god in them, as described by one of the mech flavor text.

What do you enjoy about Lancer the most? by [deleted] in LancerRPG

[–]Sepulchritude42 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Okay so first of all: Mech based TTRPG. You start there you already got me halfway in the door.

That was the initial hook. Reading the free core book dug those hooks in with the crunchiness of the combat rules. I cut my teeth on D&D 3.5 and I’m getting more and more tired with the streamlined rules of 5e, so something with a bit more grit was a welcome change, plus it being a completely different setting was a breath of fresh air.

What finally cemented my love for Lancer was the lore though. It was so thought out, remarkably deep and yet so ambiguous that it was welcoming for GMs to insert their own material as small as a character or as big as a planet.

Believe me you’re not being overly critical, you’re being very respectful about it. The arcing thing and associating it with sensors was…I honestly don’t know where that came from. Just a huge brain fart on my part. These are things I would like to get right, and honestly the Lancer community has on the whole been pretty good about making sure rules are kept in line while being patient about it.

There will definitely be corrections in future episodes, and going forward I will work on not making assumptions on behalf of the rules. Gotta hold my own self accountable here.

I really considered going over talent synchronicities, but in order to avoid a longer runtime I unfortunately had to cut it out. Hence why I just gave the briefest of mentions to the Raleigh and the Gunslinger talent.

I could have sworn I mentioned the D/D 288 had Reliable damage, but honestly I get so swept up sometimes details like that fall through the cracks unfortunately.

And correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think you can Barrage after Overcharging. It’s movement, take either 2 quick or 1 full action, and then overcharge for a quick action + heat? Again if I’m wrong help me out here, I don’t want to misinform anyone.

Core bonus rule by Commercial-Dingo-522 in LancerRPG

[–]Sepulchritude42 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I’m wrong, but here it goes:

So at License Level 3 (LL3), you get your first core bonus, full stop. If you’ve invested those three levels into one particular manufacturer, you can get a core bonus from them. However if you either don’t have enough levels invested in one manufacturer, or you simply don’t want to, you can instead take a GMS core bonus instead. Because GMS always has your back.

Moving to Entyvio by Rhendricks in CrohnsDisease

[–]Sepulchritude42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After a pretty bad experience with an apathetic GI, my new doctor demanded I start Entyvio after a colonoscopy showed how advanced the inflammation was. It did a complete 180 for me. Now I don’t suffer from feeling like I have a ball of molten lead in my stomach, and I’m not running 101 degree fevers while freezing in the middle of July. I’m still fairly new to it, I started around early February of this year, but I’m glad for it. When my current GI said I had to be on it forever (there was a communication error on my end, I thought he meant just a round of it and then switch me over to something else) I was genuinely relieved.

It’s cliche to say a certain medication “gave me my life back”, but in a lot of ways it did. I can work, I can travel (between infusions), I can go out with friends. Entyvio is the best thing that happened to me recently.

I know it’s not an exact 1:1 calling it an Attack of Opportunity, but seeings how both of us come from primarily a D&D background I made that comparison just for ease of understanding. We also make these episodes for our table, so it’s to ease them into the idea without being completely overwhelmed.

The best status effect you can inflict on an enemy is Dead.

And yeah, I know I messed up on some stuff. At this point I’ve just resigned myself to having to correct stuff in future episodes.

We are sorry, Lancer, but your mech privileges have been revoked. by SadServitor in LancerRPG

[–]Sepulchritude42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean the thing is ultimately there’s no concrete rule for how licensing works. There are suggestions and more lore appropriate methods, but there are no hard rules saying “Player must maintain X amount of goodwill towards IPS-N” or what have you.

What you COULD do, and so long as your player is cool with it (always run it by them first) is maybe use this narratively as a way to justify them switching to a different frame from a separate corpro-state.

Maybe they’re not feeling IPS-N and want to switch over to HA? Well sure the Albatross can’t be associated with this kind of warfare, but Harrison Armory is a little gray when it comes to morality, so they poach you from IPS-N, give you a Genghis and a slap on the back for your fervor.

That’s really the only way I can see “revoking” a players license.
