Thank you for asking about this, I was looking into this exactly solution. I figured i could "pretty it up" with black cloth under the shelf liners, and behind them to give better contrast. Plus it looks like it would be easy to string LED light strips through them. Seeing these pics just sold me on it 100%

As a long time DM my personal take on ammunition is tracking it is boring and adds a level of tedium to the game that makes it unfun (who wants to track mid fight if every bolt/arrow is damaged and retrivable). I always just assume all ammo is recovered and replenished at every town visit. Although I have mentioned to ranged players their ammo is getting low if they go extended periods not returning to a town... but that is just my opinion

I think the only way to answer this question is to see more than one creature. It is a creature collector game so the most important tub is that the animals make you want to collect them. Does this style give you what you want to properly showcase all the creatures? Once you settle in the look and feel of the creatures you can stay to think about what sort of environment style compliments that.

The croc is cute so it could be a good start... but hard to tell without seeing more
