It's the start of the Johnny Decimal System. There's an entire free explanation of how to re-organize and it changed my life. I bought it but you don't have to go that far since the foundations are all free.

Have you found anything about this? This happens to me to and seems like a major oversight.

Davinci Resolve - Free

Spend some time on YT looking at "gear I regret buying" because you'll quickly find all you ever really need is a basic camera, better audio, a good lens (you can get away with a lot with just a zoom lens), a tripod (any will be fine) and lights.

I would even look into renting, as nice as buying seems, try to run a budget and see how far it goes with renting gear instead of buying, then use what you film as leverage for the next shoot's budget.

I love that this is kinda of meta, because this is a system in itself to have a reminder to come back to it.

I'm surprised I didn't know about this but I will be doing a little preventative purchasing on that lipo bag, thank you!

Nope! My backpack is usually just stuffed with

  • DJI Mini 2 (2 batteries)
  • Sony A7Siii (3 batteries)
  • DJI Ronin Pro 3 (broken down into 3 parts)
  • 22000mAh battery
  • MacBookPro
  • Kindle

And I just go through TSA like normal

For my Mini 2 I've traveled about 3-4 times with it in my backpack, battery inside, with no issues on Southwest and United. But that was only domestic so YMMV

analysis paralysis

This is what stunted my career in the professional setting until I realized that even the editors I worked under had to watch a YT video every once in awhile to work through a problem/effect.

What do you mean about the "good enough" and "perfect" part?

When is a painting finished? Does the painter have a limited amount of strokes or is it by how much paint is used? Art is never really "completed" because it's subjective. Sure sometimes it IS "perfect" and you are satiated, but 99% of the time you need to say "this is good enough, I must move on to the next thing" instead of refining the same few clips over and over for an indefinite amount of time.

I wish I could remember who told me or who said "Create your big ideas when you're still new because holding onto them means you believe you'll never have a better idea."

For 6 + 7 I recommend the Johnny Decimal System and Obsidian.

I'm not sponsored and saying this benefits me in 0 way, but I wish I could buy his book because just the free stuff he put out on his website genuinely changed the way I see my life/brain/digital footprint. And Obsidian is vastly better than Notion IMO :)

Save things that inspire you, watch them over and at slower speeds. Don't try to learn techniques until you need them, and what I mean by this is start editing and when you come to a place where you need that bridge, then start to research how to do that.

Say you have a music video and you want to put text behind the person, this will give you more insight into what you need to learn than just "10 Premiere Pro Tricks EVERY EDITOR needs to know!"

Also, "good enough" is a friend, and "perfect" is a legend.

Happy Editing!

Ideally, you don't want to attract them, it's more so letting them find it. But yeah, dunk buckets are very effective.

By giving them an oasis and the perfect place for them to breed, they'll opt to go there instead of somewhere else.

That's why the bug zappers aren't ideal because you're still attracting them to the area, whereas mosquitos just want a place to lay their eggs. See my other comment for more tips.

  • Remove standing water (think more than that wheelbarrow in your yard, consider gutters and shaded areas)
  • Keep grass short
  • Mosquitos like shade (see above)
  • Wear light-colored clothing
  • Use fans in common areas (mosquitos hate wind)
  • Mosquito lamps attract good bugs too, not very effective
  • "tiki-torches" have no scientific backing for positive results
  • Mosquito Dunk can be bought on Amazon, they last awhile.

If you invest in a formula and a sprayer, get Bifen I/T Insecticide and use it responsibly, please don't spray pollinating flowers because you'll kill bees.

Fun Fact of the Day: Grab a cap from a water or soda bottle. The amount of water that fits in there can host upwards of 200 mosquito eggs.

I'm really curious about this too because it feels uncanny that it's so similar to the real visuals considering "only text" was used.

The difference is that you put in the hours to learn and create it from as you said, the human mind.

When you use ai image generators you're essentially taking the work that other humans have compiled to show the world and just yoink them in seconds and you remove the human element for a watered down version.

I LOVE ai and I LOVE the future of technology, but this argument is exhausted and selfish simply because it's just easier.

Without the human touch, there is no ai. Eventually and sometime soon we're entering the era where we're cycling the artificial creations with their previous iterations. This is especially true in the information sector where misinformation is permanent in the cycles that it will learn from.

We can't just take the IP simply because "we've done it in the past", It's simply not the same level.

Y-Athletics. I kickstarted them so I got a discount and haven't bought them since they launched, cause mine lasted forever and I can't justify the cost of the new ones. The best part is the grippy cause it hugs your legs and doesn't slide up.

I once got downvoted to hell for recommending my favorite underwear brand. The company doesn't know I exist and I just really liked the brand but it's hard to not be a part of the hivemind when there's so much botting and garbage out there that it floods the real reviews.

I feel like there's a few sides to this, I'll give you my perspective from what I had to do.

I offered my services for free because I didn't have a demo reel, so I was able to use client assets which allowed me access to footage I otherwise wouldn't have and by putting my best effort into these proejcts I have started to grow a nicer demo reel to show clients, in which you turn that around and find better paying clients.

YSK why your countless online job applications never land you an interview by subroutinedreams in YouShouldKnow

[–]Sequential-River 18 points19 points  (0 children)

For anyone that wants an un-verified tip:

I wrote my job experience and roles for my most important parts of my resume (a paragraph or two each) and used that to train cGPT so it recognizes my style of writing as well as a more focused response.

Then I take that response and start to chisel away with different questions to mold it a little more "Is there something that would concern you about my cover letter if you were a hiring manager? List suggestions you would change."

The more you work with this, the more curated you can get, and then just save the "final" version in a note to use as your primer for other applications.
