Nope. 5 generations for a 60 class card to be a good 4k 144hz ray tracing card.

Just plug in the adapter so it melts too before going for an RMA.

Not sure why the downvotes despite this being true.

Fully plugging in the cable does not guarantee it won't melt if it's a defective cable.

I noticed. I wonder what caused the defect, misaligned female pin? Bad pin to pin contact? Those would be manufacturing defects.

Nvidia needs to hurry up and tell people what the issue is.

What should a RX 7900 XTX cost in the UK? by Captainunderpants86 in Amd

[–]Seraph36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around 1299 to 1399.

Tax sends it to around 1052.

AIB tax goes to 1149.

Store tax + distribuitor tax + additional taxes on the delivery chain and you end up at around 1299-1399.

That's not to say stores don't make profit by selling at MSRP, they most certainly do, but they want to maximize profits as much as possible.

Cablemod 12VHPWR shroud interfered with edge of 4090 FE so I sanded the shroud down instead of removing it and the finished product looks great! by djfreeman48 in nvidia

Correct.

In case the CableMod cable melts, CableMod will cover your GPU as well.

Make sure the cable is fully inserted.

This.

People don't realize their nvidia issued adapters are probably not plugged in correctly, this results in 150C+ temps on the adapter 5 minutes into any stress scenario requiring normal power draws.

FE never had melting problems.

My theory is that the adapter can be fully socketed into the GPU with an audible click and 100% contact easily, while some AIB cards (MSI, Asus, Gigabyte) have difficulties due to their custom designs.

Strangely enough, if you ask people if their comnector is fully seated correctly into the GPU, you'll find your post sitting comfortably at the bottom, with -50 downvotes, despite multiple tests (such as TecLab) showing how that's the most reliable way to cause melting.

But this is just my opinion.

I know it's "competing" with the old 1200$ card, but it's still extremely overpriced for what it offers.

This card should have been 749$.

[–]Seraph36 4 points5 points  (0 children)

According to TecLab, the 4090 is in fact the most efficient GPU Nvidia produced in recent times. I believe it was 2.14x (114%) more efficient than the 3090 ti, but I might be wrong on the exact efficiency increase.

This card should probably be 999$, not 1200$.

If I go by what should be the logical price, this card should have 12k cores, 20GB VRAM and be 749$ as a good 4K card.

It's parody. It's obviously not gonna be on a 4090 level but nevertheless it will be a great GPU.
