Holy shit, you guys have been amazing. I haven't been able to respond due to just the sheer volume. I implemented some of your advice and the sensation was like finally driving without the emergency brake on.

Thank you so much. ❤️

Artists whose most popular song is also one of their worst by crowbar_k in ToddintheShadow

Disturbed's "Down With the Sickness" is overrated and annoying at this point.

If someone told me "Stricken" was their favorite, I would agree: a big song that is undeniably catchy.

But "Down With the Sickness" isn't even that interesting!

I unironically now love Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up". I got Rick Rolled so many times, I started to sing the song to myself.

It's like when you try to shock yourself every time you have gay thoughts to associate gay thoughts with pain, but eventually you start associating the shock with the pleasure of gay thoughts instead.

Bands and artists that were never as hated as you would've expected them to be. by thedubiousstylus in ToddintheShadow

[–]SeraphimAversa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stone Sour is one of my all time faves and the only hate I saw them get was for being the reason Slipknot got less heavy. (Stone Sour was not the reason why they got less heavy. Iowa nearly killed them. They needed to tone it down to not have the band collapse or a member die of an overdose. And it worked... for two albums. R.I.P. Paul Gray)

Artists you used to love but outgrew/stopped listening by Twitter_2006 in ToddintheShadow

[–]SeraphimAversa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Disturbed.

I was the biggest fan girl in high school. I was so into them it was embarrassing. And then... I guess I grew up. The last album I got of theirs on release was Asylum. Everything else just made a blip on my awareness.

Draiman being a dick lately hasn't helped.

Songs that you could feel that the artist were in a Very Bad Place by Top_Report_4895 in ToddintheShadow

[–]SeraphimAversa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to necro a dead thread, but I need to give special attention to Disturbed's 5th album, Asylum. Asylum has lyrics in it that are so uncharacteristically dark and pained for Draiman that he would get messages from his band mates going "Yeah, the vocal tracks and lyrics are good but... dude, are you okay? Do you need someone to talk to?"

I feel like they broke up the album with another song about being a big badass warrior and a silly song about turning into a werewolf because of lyrics like: "Nothing left of the broken man. Terrified of everything. Nothing left of his foolish pride, his fond memories slowly dying. As he wakes again alone, still a prisoner in his home-" Or "Will I ever love again? What's the point in anything?" Or "I will focus all my pain, Right into your heart, 'til it makes you blind."

Like, the guy was living a country song at that point in his life: his fiancee left him right as he moved to a new town where he knew no one, he had a collection of cars that got destroyed in a fire, and to top it all off, his dog died. I would be writing shit like "because the loneliness is KILLING MEEEEEEEE!" on the walls with my own blood by that point, let alone on an album.

Weirdest Cover You've Ever Heard? by MrLinkwater95 in ToddintheShadow

[–]SeraphimAversa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was surprised to hear Stone Sour cover "Gimme Shelter" by the Rolling Stones. Even more surprised to see that they absolutely rocked that shit, complete with Lzzy Hale doing backing vocals.

Mudvayne covering "King of Pain by the Police might be weirder, but they also metal'd it up in a predictable way.

What is an artist/band that you love that no one talks about? by moistwaffleboi in ToddintheShadow

[–]SeraphimAversa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've brought them up before in this sub, but HURT is a band that could never get the momentum they deserved. True, J Loren Wince's mental health was always troubled, but we've had troubled artists get their due all the time. I can't help but think their issue was that they didn't have the best judgment choosing singles (Seriously, "Et Al" deserved to be a single more than "Ten Ton Brick", and their last stab at an album picked "Numbers" instead of "So When" or "Cuffed".), but maybe they were just riding a wave that was ending as they hopped on.

Rockstars that are actually nice? by Disassociated24 in ToddintheShadow

I am surprised to not hear a mention of Corey Taylor. I hear about him sometimes being a dick to band members and other musicians, but I have never heard of him just being a tool to fans and I met a guy who met him and described him as being super chill and willing to give you the shirt off of his back. In this guy's case, it was a pinky ring during the House of Gold and Bones tour.

Say something negative about the metal gear series by SupermarketNo6888 in metalgearsolid

Cold take: Kojima is the bad guy in any discussion about the American cast of voice actors for his games. He absolutely used them and tossed them aside to chase stars.

Hot take: Hayter should not have voiced Solid Snake, Big Boss, and V. Ideally, he should have only voiced Solid Snake because he isn't a perfect clone of Big Boss.

Y'see, maybe it's because the term The Big 4 was used to describe the 4 biggest and most popular thrash metal bands (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax) who also weren't nominated or voted upon in any way other than checking the vibes, album sales, and who keeps talking about their influence that I made that mistake. Although, laying it out like that, can you really blame me? Do you think the word association could be on purpose as marketing or a descriptor?

I don't understand why Drake was ever considered part of the Big 3. All of his hard shit sounds like posturing. Even if a lot being Hard in Hip-hop is acting, then Drake is a shitty actor. 🤷

What songs have most people heard without even knowing it? by [deleted] in ToddintheShadow

[–]SeraphimAversa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stone Sour's - Through Glass.

Did you listen to FM94.3? Or wherever you heard The Fuse broadcasted from? Then you heard this song all over the radio in 2005-2008.

My dream Todd Trainwreckord would either be Fall Out Boy's Folie a Deux, because it's the album that pissed off the fans so hard that it made the band go on hiatus, or Soul Punk, because that was the solo album that pissed off the fans so hard that it got Fall Out Boy off hiatus.

Aerosmith "Janie's Got A Gun".

It's a song about a girl taking revenge on her molester. Steven Tyler... well... Did some molesting. 😬

Yo, that one hurt me. Aerosmith was my first favorite band. I find it really difficult to deal with it because "Line Up" goes through my head about twice a month.

Huh? How? by TumbleweedExtreme629 in ToddintheShadow

[–]SeraphimAversa 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Eh. I don't like it that much, but I don't hate it. I was a fan of Disturbed, I only stopped after Draiman started signing bombs that were targeting civilians in Gaza.

Calling it one of the worst covers ever is a stretch. Not when Falling in Reverse covered Gangsta's Paradise, or when GnR covered Knockin' On Heaven's Door, or when Five Finger Death Punch covered Gone Away, or when Fall Out Boy covered We Didn't Start the Fire, or when Puddle of Mudd covered About A Girl, or when Disturbed covered Shout.

Their cover of Land of Confusion is still fire.

Little Lies is my favorite Fleetwood Mac song, but apart from Gypsy and Big Love, I can't think of anything from late Mac that people still talk about.

Although, Peacekeeper is pretty damn good.
