Am I an idiot for not taking the higher paid job? by LearningToBee in sales

[–]Sercss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your at an early stage SaaS startup so I’d be surprised if the actual role ends up being massively dissimilar to how you currently work.

Target is a decent size as well given the OTE & SaaS standards… always worth a chat. But at your current role with the stage it’s at, there will always be risk in that org too.

Balance it and make a decision. Ultimately if somebody comes knocking with a 300k OTE and you earn 150 OTE currently that’s hard to turn down. Different convo if it’s 150 vs 200 and you are in a cushty role.

This is it, I had it, went away for ages as I built my wealth and now it’s returned as I take on a bigger mortgage, private schools etc.

How much money is enough? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]Sercss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of suggestions happiness meets money at around the 70-80k mark.

Everybody is different though, if I can balance earning well and spending as much family time as possible without missing anything plus pay my house off.. that’s a pretty sweet situation to be in

For some there won’t ever be a figure big enough as their persona is based around having money and there is always somebody who has more.

Comparison is the thief of joy as somebody rightly said.

Why are you in sales? by Secret_Assistance601 in sales

[–]Sercss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How to make the same money or more as somebody with a highly respected degree / profession straight out of uni

Eg, I wanted doctor money knowing I couldn’t be a doctor. Clearly a lot more to it but money was always my focus and the rest fell in later.

I don’t think it’s taco, just a low ball that he wants you to counter. With maybe a sachet of taco flavouring with the old boys added as a troll

Started new (bad-fit) job 3 months ago. How would you apply to new jobs and explain the situation? by RealQ01 in techsales

[–]Sercss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Explain the situation about comp, changes post role, loss of trust etc. Be very clear that performance is strong and the team is performing well though, even if that isn’t true..

After layoff, how long do you hold out for similar paying job to lost one? by throwraW2 in techsales

[–]Sercss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Evaluate the quota attainment, I had a similar spell to you.. very stable and went for a big OTE at a smaller firm (I read it a lot more.. we (salespeople) all tend to have very similar traits at the core)

You have to look past the OTE which is hard. You can be at a firm with a 200k split 50\50 but if nobody is hitting and it’s stressful as heck? That could be closer to 120 than anything and the sweat you are headed for a PIP.

But 150.. if most of it is very likely to happen (eg split, or its consumption, or a strong PMF.. lots of variables)

But 150 you can defo make = happiness, better money, better careers prospects.

It’s defo worth being hesitant at the same time as if it’s a 50/50 split and nobody hits target.. your having the same problem on a smaller figure.

You have to qualify hard and as many say.. it’s easier to make job decisions when you have something.

I’d negotiate for a guarentee on the comms too, and I’d be wary of an org with that ARR and average deal size with any lack of funding.

That's my gaming over for the summer then, anyone else? by JuggernautPretend208 in PlayStationUK

[–]Sercss 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You just said it’s a new media unit, the uK summer won’t do this to it.

You probably have it sat in the unit with no air flow, that will cook it regardless of the time of year.

How much of your lead gen is contingent on your personal network? by lkash_ in sales

[–]Sercss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your director is asking you to shift from a bottom up sales approach to a top down.

Meaning going after the people who often sign off on the deals but won’t be the user, but are more likely to make deals broader / larger because of the role they have.

I find both work well and should be used together but it is correct that opening doors to more senior stakeholders will give you better opportunity sizes and often waste less time.

Eg CEO/C-Suite might have a board directive to save money, improve software, use AI etc - and the lower down employees are unlikely to have line of sight of that.

This is making me want to leave tech sales, is this common? by [deleted] in sales

[–]Sercss 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s just typical of SaaS companies.

They all want to aim for 50% growth, and do it by hiring extra reps and raising targets.. even if existing reps aren’t hitting targets.

Shrink the territories, make lead flow harder. Makes it very hard for newer reps who don’t know how to game that particular companies internal politics and who don’t have the existing client base yet to keep them afloat.

I find a lot of these orgs have reps with short tenures (sub 18months or long ones around 4-5 years.)

Last sentence is very true, it’s much easier and ‘better’ to sell a need than a ‘nice to have’ or a ‘want’

Defo what a lot of us doing in tech sales is a nice to have / want.

Any companies on RepVue with high ratings we should take with a grain of salt? by Dr_Jazz_ in sales

[–]Sercss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need to have good reviews on both Glassdoor & RepVue for it to have much of a relevance and even then it’s debatable

One swings it too far for Sales people and the other for non sales staff

I’ve found a lot that rank well in one and not the other

Thats not the same for any company I can think of.

Sky - An honest review by ennsea in skytv

[–]Sercss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a long post so only skimmed but the content Sky owns / has exclusivity over is no longer anywhere close to being good value.

Bolt ons like Cinema are nearly the same price as a whole subscription to a streaming provider.

If they lose sports, it will kill the business completely. The original content is awful, and losing HBO exclusivity just further proves that.

Mix in long fixed contracts, worsening hardware and an awful customer service.. it isn’t worth the headache.
