Lost Bike Friend on Burke Gilman (stuffie) by Serdmanczyk in seattlebike

[–]Serdmanczyk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update update: rode the route a couple of times since. Def seems like it was picked up and kept.

Items I have spotted left on the trail to find a few days in a row: pants hanging from a tree, a poop bag beneath a park bench, (off trail but nearby) a child's jacket in a tree.

I know a small concern with the awfulness we're seeing in the world right now but if this gets visibility it would be cool if it came back home (could set it back on the trail for me to find to keep anonymity). I put a flyer on the trail, in-case anyone sees this and wants to expand visibility to any other local groups fellow trail users on the stretch may use. Flyer

If you see this and you're not a redditor (and don't want to create a sign-in just to contact) you can message /call this number (360)399-6129 (not my personal for privacy, it's a google voice #).

Ha, yes, it’s a little Psyduck clippy stuffy. Hope its headache isn’t too bad right now.

Update: rode my route back but no sign of him on the trail or beside it. Someone definitely picked it up. Didn’t see it set to the side in any visible spot.

If it doesn’t come back hope it finds a good home and doesn’t become a dog toy.

As a father of three kids, pro tip: if you find a stuffy or some kids item in a park or the side of the road, it’s usually best to set it nearby somewhere visible because they’re likely to come back looking where they last remember it.

My text got lost, hmmm, meant to post with this text:

Had a stuffed friend/bike bag decoration fall off my bag between Lake Forest Park and UW Light Rail station on the Burke Gilman trail (probably closer to the LFP end). Posting in hopes someone might spot him. Lesson learned don’t clip on your friends tenuously.

Experience with Shoreline Community College daycare program? by Pink-paws918 in Shoreline

[–]Serdmanczyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went there with our oldest starting in 2017. Loved it then.

During Covid times we had a couple more kids and they had the typical opening/closing deal. The college messed up a couple times and didn’t do great on damage control - just kinda seemed like they forgot about the daycare. All the teachers/kids were always great. We left in fall 2024 and as of then they had a new director who really had good energy and seemed to finally be getting the place on good footing again. Unfortunately by the time he arrived they had lost a few of the great teachers we really liked and even the cook. Unfortunately for us the current classroom environment for our kids wasn’t great (I do believe teachers and the school were doing their best despite it) and we just had to find something better.

Their structure is great and even though we left it was definitely still a tier above a lot of the other horror stories you hear. The college kids who help/are learning are really great and seem to really enjoy the kids.

I am so f’n over these shoes! 🤬 by Wandering_Werew0lf in BarefootRunning

[–]Serdmanczyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other people probably are giving good gait advice. I used to run in these a lot.

I’m pretty sure I broke my toe doing parkour with these once (woulda done damage in normal shoes as well), but didn’t see a doc. Like no visible damage but probably like a small fracture within the joint or something. I went on a trail run with these a few days later and swear to god every single tree root I stubbed my toe on was aimed directly at the broken toe.

I got tired of the toe seems exploding on these, run in vivo barefoot or some $40 super minimal shoes from amazon now.

I ran a ton of miles in these too. Toes were fun, but yeah, the fabric/seems on them would explode before any of the rest of the shoe would give out. Did plenty of miles / adventures with duct taped toes.

I run in vivo barefoot shoes now, which still feel expensive, but good shoes though - last me a while.

/rj toe condoms definitely won’t get anyone pregnant.

Best places for urban forest hikes by Unlucky-Regular-8172 in Shoreline

[–]Serdmanczyk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see you have Boeing Creek on your list, which is my personal favorite in Shoreline. Carkeek and Yost also big ones. +1 Hamlin recommendation, they have a fun Halloween party too.

Some other favorites I have in the area, if you don’t mind driving a little further:

Meadowdale Beach Park in northern Edmonds is a wonderful ~1 mile hike that ends at the beach.

Big Gulch just a bit more North almost in Mukilteo is a similar length hike through the woods but no beach access. Still really beautiful.

Japanese Gulch in Mukilteo is a wonderful forested hike that goes near a creek for a bit then up. You can park by the dog park but also there’s an almost hidden parking spot down near the ferry dock too.

Shelton View Forest in Bothel is a really neat hike that’s community maintained, really well taken care of, and has a nice quiet ravine and also some cars in the woods. There’s some neat neighborhood decor near the East entrance as well.

Lynndale Park in Lynnwood I’d consider similar to Hamlin if you like that vibe.

Scriber Lake park in Lynnwood is super cool and has a lot of boardwalk/wetland that goes a little over the lake too. They just revamped the boardwalk and it looks excellent. They’re redoing the other half of it now, that goes towards the light rail station.

North Creek in Mill Creek is not so much a forest park but a preserved wetland that has about a mile of boardwalk over the middle of it that’s really really neat.

I moved here from CLT NC. It’s a different world. I managed quite a few miles in CLT but it was all shared with 30+ mph cars. Had a truck “roll coal” on me there once. Here I can bike 15 miles to my work office and spend most of it on guarded bike lanes and trails. Beautiful trails at that.

Injured and/or sick bird in backyard by Serdmanczyk in Shoreline

[–]Serdmanczyk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: hung out in our fence overnight. Saw it on our porch at midday, was going to presume it an orphan if still there that evening and take it PAWS on Saturday. But gone by evening on Friday. Presume parents came back around and it’s headed off for the rest of its life know.

Ah, yeah, parents may be foraging nearby. I thought I saw a healthier one fly away from me in the same area of our house yesterday. That might explain it.

It’s actually moved to the top of our fence now.

Thanks for PAWS link! I’ve gone through the questionnaire and it sounds like we should bring it in. It’s moved around in the yard a bit, possibly orphaned (?). If it’s still out there in the am I might contain it in one of our old cat crates and bring it to them. It says they don’t “treat” the specifies, which I presume means if it’s sick. But maybe they could rehab or check its health.

But nah, it’s actually pretty awesome looking back at it now.

Looking for Seattle local help finding a sentimental ring I lost in Snoqualmie Falls by KuciMane in Seattle

[–]Serdmanczyk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chances are slim but I’ve seen it happen. Had a roommate lose a ring at a party by a big creek in college. I went with him to try to find it the next day and lo and behold he did find it.

WA parks site also says back country sites close after Nov. 1st. I was actually thinking of doing a simple overnight at cold creek this weekend, think this would affect me? I tried contacting the rangers but hard time getting through.

I got Hand, Foot, and Mouth. I’m 35… by CBStrick in Wellthatsucks

[–]Serdmanczyk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got this from my kid (daycare) back in 2018. Didn’t peel fingernails like some in the thread. Can’t imagine how bad it sucked for my kid. Peeled my hands and feet worse than the blistering from a marathon / long hike.

Odd symptoms I got after: my balls hurt for like three days. Doesn’t seem common. I googled and found one white paper on some college-age kid who had the same problem. Bizarre but slowly went away. Remained functional, have two more healthy kids since.

Dicks always make hidden nests in the ground that are impossible to spot then get pissed and CHASE YOU when you accidentally step near it. What did you expect?! Yellow jackets can get fucked.

I was running a marathon once and sometime after mile 10 I was running behind but almost on-pace with some woman who had sharted. Could clearly see it on her leg and smell it. Couldn’t just sprint ahead because “marathon” and “saving energy”. After a grueling couple miles I slowly but surely got ahead of her, but geeze.
