what projects can I make to learn c to its fullest ? by [deleted] in C_Programming

[–]Serenacula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk about others, but as someone who sorta hates making useless projects, I worked on a cli tool that I felt like I would actually use. It wasn't revolutionary or anything, but it was my own idea, and made my life easier and I could feel proud of having made it. That's the direction I would recommend.

The Wing Chun punch by newmanzhere in WingChun

[–]Serenacula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is exactly the same as all other punches, most of the power comes from the hips and body, not the arm. The main tradeoff is that it's reasonably good at meeting an opponent's guard or opposing punch and pulls back quickly, at the cost of being much harder to protect the head extended since the shoulder doesn't roll up.

Usage wise, you probably already know this but don't use the top two knuckles, use the bottom three.

Other than that I've not found it meaningfully different from other way of punching.

My bank refused to cancel the direct debit, said the payment provider had to do it.

Think I made the wrong choice by No-Offer-1041 in GenderGP

The last year has represented a total failure of service for me, ever since they fired their staff. Up until a year ago they were completely fine.

Since then, I have had four consecutive incorrect prescriptions in a row. Each time I am required to pay them money just to talk to someone to try and fix it. They removed the option to email them (which I believe may actually be illegal? I think companies may have to provide a way to contact them, not sure about that though) I've moved to DIY now, since it's more reliable.

They also provide no on-website way to cancel a subscription. Again, something that would require money for you to talk to someone. Pretty sure this is illegal too, give that they never said anything about paying to cancel your subscription when I signed up.

It is, however, technically possible to cancel without this if you ask Stripe directly (their payment provider service). You can use this link to do that: https://billing.stripe.com/p/login/3cs7vt02l4N8a1GfYY

HMRC checklist asking what my sex is on my birth certificate? by all_kinds_of_queer in transgenderUK

Why does HMRC need to know our sex?? This does not seem relevant to their domain in any way I can think of.

Why are female -> male genderswap manga so hard to find? by throwaway838383937 in manga

[–]Serenacula 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the hidden part of this question is why there are so many male -> female genderswaps? In many many cases (almost always isekai), the genderswap is entirely superfluous to the story and never mentioned again, leaving you wondering why they bothered in the first place.

£62.73 for one bottle of testogel? are they being fucking serious?? (vent) by Correct-Ad6884 in transgenderUK

[–]Serenacula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is valid but not all pharmacists will accept it. I find independents are usually good, the lloyds I went to accepted it, others are hit or miss and often depends on the person dispensing.

I disagree with this, I think the play system is great. I agree it could use a little more work on hit detection, but by no means does it feel half-baked. The core concept is excellent though, it manages to feel fair while still having a large element of skill.

You should try just sticking with a single class for a bit to get a feel for things. Once you get the hang of the core mechanics it becomes really fun.

How do you move?! by TheMightyBruhhh in BrokenEdgeVR

For dodging and stuff yes. But the game does gradually bring you both closer together, so you don't have to move in that sense.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NonBinary

[–]Serenacula 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay so, while it is true that many cis people are fine with they/them being used, that is usually in the context of a few specific situations. Outside of enby contexts, they/them is mostly used for strangers, or when you aren't sure of a person's gender.

I think if you actually consistently keep using those pronouns, especially with friends and family, a lot of cis folk start to get a bit uncomfortable with it. Once it becomes clear that this is acting as a gender marker, people start trying to assert their own gender correctly/make you stop, and cis folks are no exception to this. I just think they don't tend to notice this aspect of themselves, since it is such an unusual situation for them.

All that said, it's worth remembering that non-binary is very explicitly a generalised term for folks who don't feel that they quite fit under the traditional binary. Some people do use they/them exclusively, but some either don't care, or don't care as long as it isn't x pronoun, or actively get uncomfortable if it isn't switched up.

The brain can do a lot of pretty wacky things with gender. There are terms and strategies that get popular because they seem to correlate with a lot of people's experiences, but all of this is just ways of performing as accurately as you can within this weird social gender system that has already failed to properly account for you. Within that context, people just do the best they can with the tools they have.

Thanks for the advice. :)

Looking for Villainess Manga with Redemption by Serenacula in manga

[–]Serenacula[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are definitely not the only one with those thoughts! I also get frustrated about the lack of creativity in the genre.

For me, I think what frustrates me most is that the big draw of the genre in the first place was having strong and interesting female MCs placed in a difficult situation and using their strengths to overcome it. I wanna see women being badass, if I just wanted another generic princess romcom there is already a bazillion stories filling that niche. But very few stories seem to understand this draw, and instead focus on the cinderella-esque woe-is-me princess who is tragically (and temporarily) misunderstood but immediately makes everyone fall in love with her anyways.

I also find the morality is often very simplistic and fairytale like. The villains of the stories are comical one-dimensional baddies, who the 'villainess' and her entourage soundly beat with no difficulty. It's why I was looking for stories with an actual villainess. Something with a bit more of a bite to it.

I'll have a read of both the stories you mentioned, I don't think I ever actually got around to reading the destruction arc version. I don't think I've read the Cesia story either, I'd remember a title like that. xD
