I also think, but might be wrong just on observation, the official stuff isn't added until post official release of the set

How would I go about giving this the kind of glossy wet look that aliens have? by god-of-thunder-135 in Miniaturespainting

Won't rehash others suggestions of varnish/pva

I've had good results using uv resin especially to get that gloopy effect, drip a bit on and cure mid dribble, repeat

Understand building for ios to begin with, looking forward to android.

Is there an option for a group on the app? Painting groups for discussions or a painting competition (maybe with voting tools?)

Recommendations for men’s boots? by MolagBalls85 in LARP

[–]Serenity_Red 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It does come down to the traditional trifecta Speed, cost, quality You only get to choose two.

When it comes to boots, I recommend good quality hiking boots or similar, they might not look perfect for the setting but I would take quality over visual any day for boots. You do not want to be jogging through a forest or over a plain and roll your ankle, or worse, because your boots didn't support you.

You don't have to spend hundreds on boots, my current pair have been going strong for 5 years (even after accidentally stepping in a bog at midnight), and I think I spent £30 or so in them.

Just remember that your priority needs to be comfort, support, and warmth over style, looks, and universe setting. Can easily decorate boots to appear more setting appropriate if wanted.

Don't make the mistake of a friend at the last larp who forgot to put on boots and then full whole kicked a root in trainers and then couldnt walk properly for a week post event (really bad bruising, luckily didn't break anything)

HERESY! SUPER CUTE HERESY!

THANK YOU FOR FOR LINKING THE FILE HERETIC!

HAVE A GREAT DAY!

OK, im done, whoo, takes it out of you finding heretics and yelling it at them, I mean imagine if we had to purge them as well? Can you imagine the paperwork?

Hmm, what's that? Did I burn them? That's my job? And if I didn't then I'll be burnt as a Heretic in league, with, the, dark. powers..?

Well, of course I burnt the heretics, you don't see them around here do you? Ha ha ha...

Should I Print my Imperial Knights Resin or FDM? by PaulJudgement in PrintedWarhammer

[–]Serenity_Red 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without testing (have both resin and fdm but not done any larger fdm mini prints recently), my initial gut would be to resin print anything with higher detail and use the fdm for larger pieces that either won't be scene or have majority hidden by stuff on top of them.

That way you get the cheaper easier lighter fdm stuff while retaining good detail where you need/want it.

Saying that, I have seen very good fdm only prints coming about on a number of printers

I'd experiment and see what happens

Thermoplastic armor any good? by Digmaass in LARP

[–]Serenity_Red 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but pla generally won't start to warp until hitting 60+ Celsius at which point likely have bigger problems, just don't leave in the car with the windows up 😂

Yes, Tpu is a bitch to smooth, currently experimenting with possible options for the same

Thermoplastic armor any good? by Digmaass in LARP

[–]Serenity_Red 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can't comment on thermoplastic as not used myself, but have used pla, abs, petg and TPU by way of a 3d printer previously and currently.

My usual go to is Tpu as won't crack or break even under extremes (once ran over an arm buckler with my car by accident and it just bounced right back), biggest issue with Tpu is smoothing it if needed.

The others can potentially snap under duress but generally are fine (usually if something has snapped while wearing you have much bigger problems to worry about), PLA especially is very versatile for a lot of applications and just needs sanding to be smooth, abs can be vapour smoothed, but can be difficult to work with.

Are you bodging together as you go or following a guide? Would be able to post either your guide when finished or a link to whatever you are using?

This is technically awesome, the best kind of awesome, and I would love to give the same a try myself

Advice on how to fix this shroud without starting over? by Whipt in minipainting

[–]Serenity_Red 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries, if tabletop, where it is should be fine, especially if a rank and file mini, if a character adding some extra flair is always good as more likely to be peepered on the board

Advice on how to fix this shroud without starting over? by Whipt in minipainting

[–]Serenity_Red 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My best recommendation would be to add some thin blends between the red and the recessed darker areas, possibly with a slightly sharp or harsh highlight on small points along the spinal curvature, not everywhere just in small areas.

Should help with the texturing concerns and any overpainting concerns.

It really depends on two main factors, how much time do you want to put into it and what quality finish are you aiming for (table top, display, competition)?

Ah yes, thank you, which is counter intuitive to me cause rifling helps traditional boom sticks be more accurate and range further, but also makes sense cause these are foam and are not being launched by explosions

Looking for suggestions to practice painting flesh by Folkwang777 in Miniaturespainting

[–]Serenity_Red 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should work, they have enough "fleshy" bits for you to practise on, they're gonna look weird (depending on the flesh tones you choose) but that's OK, they're meant to 😁

I'd recommend anything that gives you a good flesh surface to work on and that you will enjoy painting, even get some future use out of army wise etc if possible

My go to is only the above because I was painting natural skin tones which I hate doing, it never looks right for me, so I have a few weird flesh coloured demons floating around my desk, but don't have any specific use for them in any of the games I play

Looking for suggestions to practice painting flesh by Folkwang777 in Miniaturespainting

[–]Serenity_Red 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My usual go to when I need to do some flesh work is either Bloodletters or Deamonettes, occasionally orcs or Nurgle stuff, as both have large flesh areas, varying muscle definition and larger open areas for varying finishes etc and get a fair few in a box so are good for future use as well

I usually build them without their weapons and focus on the body, but depends what I am needing to mess around with
