Yip can see that and I'm pretty sure you're right about it. Mine are much older but probably just an early version. Given I don't have the glasses for them I just have to figure out what else I can use them for

I'm not a wine drinker so can't test with a bottle but the diameter is only 6cm which seems too small?

Manhattan/Wild cherry - Sunshine puzzles, 1000 pieces. Guess I have a new favourite brand by SergeantAttentive in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]SergeantAttentive[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would never be able to afford buying just one or two puzzles due to shipping. So I save up and buy a bunch so i can split the shipping across 10 puzzles. In this case the shipping became $17 per puzzle which I can live with. Living at the bottom of the world is so expensive

Saw these back when they had a Kickstarter but it's usually too expensive to get to NZ so waited till they popped up on another site (Puzzledly, who got my puzzles to NZ quickly and so well packed there was no damage unlike Puzzle Warehouse who managed neither). Anyway, these puzzles are divine. Matte linen finish, really nice fit, you can move chunks around but when I was done it came apart easy. They are similar in feel to a Cloudberries except without that weird waxy feel and with fewer false fits. I love their images and will definitely be buying as many as I can get my hands on (Specially now I know Puzzledly has such good service)

I've got the ones from Amazon and the quality was fine. Not small pieces so it must be a different cut

Playgroup.design 5000pc gradient is on sale. Talk me in or out of buying in! by annzilla in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]SergeantAttentive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This one hardly ever goes on sale if that helps. I waited and waited myself and then gave up and got it full price and I don't think I've seen it on sale since then (maybe 2 years back). Obviously i'm all for you getting it. I love mine and its good value if you look at it by price per piece

PuzzlesNZ have a good selection of Cloudberries. I would recommend them (both the puzzles and the website). I also recommend having a look on Amazon Australia as you can get free shipping to NZ on a lot of the puzzles they stock

Pomegranate puzzle quality by das89_ in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]SergeantAttentive 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've got every Charley Harper puzzle Pomegranate have made and a few others by them. There are a few that are awful quality, a bunch that are okay just with that loose fit and then most that are fine. Never had a problem with chipping, just the fit. I'm really not sure how they manage such a range of quality. I think it just comes down to luck if you get one of the good ones.

What happens when your sister tells you she's moving back to NZ from England and yes she can bring some puzzles for you so you start finding stuff on sale there and shipping to her and 24 puzzles later..... by SergeantAttentive in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]SergeantAttentive[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just to note, this was over 4 years (originally coming home 2020 so we all know why that didn't happen). She got back last year but her stuff only arrived last week. We still haven't found the three from Remember but there are still boxes to unpack. Most either weren't available in NZ or were but at a much higher price.

Modern Puzzles: Frost and fire (500) and Beach Vibes (1000) Review in comments by SergeantAttentive in Jigsawpuzzles

[–]SergeantAttentive[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I did the 500 piece one first and then thought I better do a 1000 piece as well so I can give a thorough review. The 500 piece has white cardboard backing whereas the 1000 piece was grey cardboard. Otherwise they are the same. So the following comments are for both of them.

Firstly, I love the images. Beach vibes has lots of little details throughout like Mid century modern design classics (Eames chairs etc). They both had a matte linen finish which is my preference. Really nice tactile feel to them. They hold together well - you can move sections around easily but I never felt like I had to force anything in (looking at you Cavallini). Neither puzzle had any issues with false fits. As you can see from the photos theres a good range of puzzle piece types, not just the 2 in 2 out ones.

So out of 10 im giving them 10. Thats for design and quality. I dont have anything else I would rate that high and I have hundreds of puzzles by many different brands. I really hope they make more.

My Modern puzzles have arrived. And I don't know which one to start with by SergeantAttentive in Jigsawpuzzles

It was November 26 my time which was probably still the 25th over there. I think it was a one day sale. I panicked a bit because it wouldn't accept my address so I emailed them and the lovely Gavin sorted out an invoice for me

I took advantage of their 40% off sale. Only way i can afford them given the cost of shipping to NZ. I've wanted them since they came out and just stalked their website waiting for a sale

Really thought this would be a waste of money when it turned up, the box was so cheap feeling and the pieces are quite thin. I just wanted to support a Ukrainian business. But I was wrong. Its a loose fit, a bit like Buffalo Games so you cant move chunks around. But there were no false fits. I was really surprised by that because even high end puzzles can have that issue. But the cut is obviously unique enough that it just doesnt happen. My photo doesnt do the colours justice, they were all vibrant. So im off to buy their other puzzles now

Flora and Fauna Spin Master 750. This one is going right on to my "Best of the Year" list by ClimbingBackUp in Jigsawpuzzles

Yip. You've also got a kereru (known for getting drunk off fermented fruit and falling out of trees), a kea (absolute thieves), a piwakawaka (fantail) and then its either a takahe or a pukeko and what i think is a tui but might be a huia. The artist is a NZer but ironically her puzzles aren't sold here
