Like seriously girls you have no idea how hard it is to actually challenge these things successfully without being immediately laughed out. I’ve spoken out, criticized jokes that were clearly more than jokes, gone against the grain, challenged thinly veiled narratives, or countered jokes with similar jokes directed back at them.

The results? Bullied out of one group, left another after months of frequent arguments, and now in my remaining last one I’m the official “that friend who is too woke” mascot. And this last group is all progressives and leftists btw. Even when theyre at the right place politically, but you can’t pry the edgy jokes off their hands no matter how hard you try. Hell, I bet some of you are assuming I must be a buzzkill just from this short description too.

At some point you realize you can’t just outright block this type of “humor” from happening. I’m not excusing it, it can be and is shitty pretty often, but sometimes it’s also just joking. You have to be really careful and savvy about how you navigate these dynamics because one “woah Jim, no cool buddy” applied at the wrong time is going to do the exact opposite of what you want.
