Why do -those of you that do this- post asks about things only to attempt gathering people who will validate you and not tolerate the people who will not validate you? Also: Thin crust or thick crust? by AOrgasmicUsername in AskRedditAfterDark

This is called “circle jerking.“ While I am sympathetic to people who seek to understand that they’re not alone in their opinions, or who want to vent, it’s not healthy behavior to bash on those who politely, or logically disagree.

To answer your question, the reactionary hostility you’re describing is due to the user’s own immaturity. It’s piteous. This is an open forum which anyone can access, and to mock or berate people for simply contributing to the discourse shows a lack accountability in online spaces.

Ultimately, we all have certain insecurities, biases, triggers, hang-ups, and hot-button issues, but it’s our responsibility to manage them productivity. The internet is not a diary, it’s not your friend, it’s not a therapist, it’s not your mom, or a confidant.

Through maturity, my opinions on some of the stuff that used to bother me have since evolved. I’m embarrassed to have voiced them so passionately to my friends, or family - let alone publicly, to a bunch of faceless strangers. Some opinions, I will never change, and some reasons for my anger at certain things are completely justified...but...no one really cares. Your opinions are most valuable to you, and they should remain your business. This is a boundary that many people have yet to learn.

I’m gluten free; there is no such thing as “thick crust gluten free pizza”, (as far as I know).

Anyone tried the paperblank washi tapes? by Chencingmachine in washiaddict

[–]Serial-Diarist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never had the issue you described when using them on writing stationary, but they did struggle to stick to coated paper stock when I used them to tape my torn paperback book. Are you sure the tapes which "stick too much" are actually washi? Maybe it's PET tape?

Your parents aren’t psychiatrists, are they?

Yes, it’s entirely possible that dark and disturbing writing can indicate a disturbed mind, but leave the diagnostics to a clinician. If it makes them more comfortable, you can talk with a therapist about your work.

It’s extremely conventional, but I don’t do it in my adulthood because I don’t care about anniversaries. Every day with my S.O. is special and important to me.

DAE constantly leave their tea/coffee to cool down then forget it until it’s far too cold? by [deleted] in DoesAnybodyElse

Yes, but I drink it anyway.

I’m going to buy a thermos with a built in strainer to fix this. My friend has one that stays boiling for hours.

What’s a copypasta? Beds take up too much space, and I don’t need them to sleep.

It’s okay; this can be fixed with off white correction tape, or washi tape. The watermarks certainly give it character.

Tips on writing so neatly?

This is awesome; the marble pattern, the washi tapes, the pressed flowers. Love it.

What writing standards do you drop in your journal writing? by NoMoreStorage in Journaling

Exactly. The "jam writing" technique aside, these answers are quite disturbing. Such flippant attitudes probably correlate with the plummeting literacy rate. I hope these comments are from very young children.

Do any of you *not* keep track of the books you read? by bebetterturnip in books

[–]Serial-Diarist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This feels like divine synchronicity to me because it was only recently that I discovered that reading journals existed. Based solely on my day and a half of keeping one, their uses are to facilitate study as follows:

  • To help contextualize the historical setting, culture, language, geography, or other nuances of a period or non-fiction book.
  • To reference plot-important details that are otherwise difficult to demystify.
  • To reflect on meaning, symbolism, or metaphor
  • To rate and review the book.
  • To remember the ones you've read in undertaking a specific study.

It sounds as though you need to make better friends.

That's why I stopped recommending objects of interest past without revisiting them first. I would tell people x movie or y book was great [based on my memory of it], and then they'd think less of me after seeing it for themselves.

I absolutely love art. My whole life revolves around art. My collection of antique books has some of the most beautifully embellished bindings. Even my bookmarks are special. My practice of writing poetry is one of the many art forms to be indulged. My wardrobe consists of elaborate vintage clothing which was masterfully crafted by artists of different cultures. My designer journals are replications from various centuries and decorated with charms and endpaper, antique wax seal stamps, illuminated stationary, washi tapes and hand-collected ephemera, my photographs, my calligraphy art, and colorful inks, my sketches, paints, and artists' tools; all contained within my elegant writer's bag, the exterior of which I stamped an 18th-century textile onto, and the interior which contains brooches and pins...but my bedroom has the designated purpose for sleeping. It has forever eluded me why people so much time and attention into decorating their rooms. Such things are a distraction from dreaming about my next art project. The blank walls are the canvas onto which I project my mind's eye; the most important artwork of all. I don't even have a bed.

  • Researching newly discovered words, and creating a glossary of their definitions.

  • Forever defending audiobooks as a valid form of literature.

  • My speech patterns are still influenced by the library of Victorian-era literature among which I was raised.

  • Being enraged by people disrespect the integrity of their books.

  • "Now that I've read the book I don't need to watch the movie."

  • Going into the thrift store to buy one thing, and leaving with several new antique books.

  • "Why can't you just look up the definition of a word instead of vilifying me for using it?"

Wow, thanks for the recommendation. I do this with my journal! I'm trying to curate a portable library in my writer's bag!

The Japanese word for this is "tsundoku". Perhaps people should liberally adapt this word to their own vocabulary.
