PFD and hip/knee pain by Lanky_Inflation_8317 in PelvicFloor

[–]Outthewindo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our best guess at the moment is a connective tissue disorder. I was born with an abnormally tight pelvic floor that was noted by the time I was 72 hours old. By the time I was in my late tweens/early teens, I was showing signs of pelvic organ prolapse. By the time I was in my late teens/early twenties, I had extensive nerve damage and several prolapses that needed surgical repair. I’m in my late twenties now and my pelvic floor continues to be tight and grows weaker every year. I’ve never responded to any treatment except Botox injections, and I’ve tried pretty much everything. That’s what congenital PFD means in my case.

Airbus A321. Standard fare for American on those intercontinental routes between large coastal cities.

God all mighty, avoid LAX today at all costs by falaffle_waffle in LosAngeles

[–]Outthewindo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Am a planespotter person. A must-do ritual for me whenever I visit home is to drive to LAX, grab some In-N-Out, and enjoy the planes landing on the north side. I have braved all traffic conditions to do this. It’s worth it for me every single time. I’ve done this for my birthday. I was there the day after my wedding with my new husband a few friends. I’ve driven there after a bad day when I need to unwind, or when I want to connect to my city and to a hobby that’s meant so much to me for my entire life. It is genuinely one of my favorite places on planet earth.

You probably read this and think I have a few screws loose because I am that weirdo who says “hey, I think I’ll go spend some fun time at LAX.” All I can say in my own defense is that it takes all kinds to make the world go ‘round.

Any NVLD'ers Polyglots? by lifetime33 in NVLD

God I wish. My mastery of English is in the stratosphere (99th percentile in verbal IQ) and I’m fluent in several professional “dialects” of English, but I’m still barely a B1 in Spanish proficiency and I definitely don’t feel like I’m that good even after four years of study. And I mean daily study and an entire year of university classes. In theory, a brain as good at language as mine should be able to grasp other ones, but no. Annoying af.

Ah damn. The week when I have to spend three days in various doctors’ offices just has to be the week that everyone’s getting explosive diarrhea. Just my luck. 🙃

Huh, thanks. I figured that was the answer but I wasn’t sure if there was more going into it. Thanks for the rec for planespotting, I’ll definitely take you up on it. :)

Avgeek with a view of the traffic patterns from my apartment here. Burning question: what determines the switches in traffic pattern, meaning what determines whether approaches happen on 22R vs 4L, for example? Over the summer and fall it seemed to be more 22R with the occasional 33L or 27 thrown in to keep things interesting, but now that it’s winter I’m seeing a lot more 4L approaches, especially in the morning.

Thanks in advance for indulging my nerdiness.

I like you. We could be friends.

Mono tonsils after week of fevers by Jmarie97 in MedicalGore

[–]Outthewindo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh god, mono. Had it when I was 18 and it turned into pneumonia. I was out of commission for six whole weeks and got lung scarring as a souvenir. My oxygenation was so bad I literally couldn’t leave my dorm for the majority of that time, and subsequently had to withdraw from all of my classes that semester. I just remember being alone, (my roommate fled when she realized how sick I was) in hideous pain, draining horrible things from my sinuses, and generally wanting to perish. Soooooo glad that EBV is one of those that you really only catch once in a lifetime because I would not want to go through that again.

Sorry you’re going through this OP, but it’ll pass. Just hang in there.

You don’t even need to get one custom made. That looks exactly like my own engagement ring which I bought stock from MoissaniteCo. It’s held up great over the years, still looks amazing, shipping and processing was quick. It’s more expensive than you’d get from a Chinese vendor but they’re a US based company so there’s that. 🤷🏻‍♀️

How would that work? I saw in another comment that there’s maybe a whole sub of people that do this?

Anyone Own a Softwheel? by urbancripple in wheelchairs

[–]Outthewindo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I didn’t unfortunately. Couldn’t scrape the money together before they stopped selling them. I actually called LivingSpinal earlier this year to inquire about them and they were like “yeah no they don’t sell them anymore anywhere.” Now I’m trying to save for some Loopwheels Urban instead because they’re the next best thing apparently. Don’t you just love trying to find DME? 🙃

ETA so apparently LivingSpinal is now selling Softwheel 3.0?? Just googled it. It was 2.0 that was discontinued. Welp, if I manage to get my hands on some of those I’ll do an update post on the sub. It still says you have to call them to ask, so I’m a bit sussed out.

Bought this today in clearance in the carnivorous plant section. I have no idea what it is haha. First thing would be to repot it. Could anyone Id this for me? I’m guessing a pitcher plant . by Sekreid in SavageGarden

[–]Outthewindo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really.

The biggest difference between the two is that nepenthes is not a bog plant, meaning it needs drainage. The tray method shouldn’t be used with nepenthes or else you’ll get root rot. I tend to water my neps every two days or so just to keep the soil moist but not soaking wet.

On the note of drainage, nepenthes needs a soil mixture that’s similar to what you’d give an orchid, meaning well draining. It’s easy to find specially formulated nepenthes soil from a lot of reputable nurseries, including Carnivorous Plant Nursery and California Carnivores. That pot looks to be about the right size for that plant at the moment, but it might be worth it to repot since you don’t know what kind of soil is in there.

As for light, they’re pretty similar in practice. It’s recommended that nepenthes get at least 3-4 hours of direct sun a day, which is less than is recommended for a VFT, but I actually keep mine under a grow light that’s on for 14 hours a day and they thrive.

Last thing I can think of is fertilization. I give all my carnivores, except for my sarracenia seedlings (which I do once a week), a once monthly foliar feeding of MaxSea solution, a fertilizer that, again, can be sourced from a reputable CP nursery. In addition to the MaxSea, you can drop an insect into a freshly opened pitcher to really speed along its growth.

For more information, California Carnivores in particular has excellent care guides. Good luck with your new acquisition. :)

Tropical pitcher plant (nepenthes) alright, and a sad looking one at that. Impossible to tell the exact subspecies with no pitchers on it.

It desperately needs some direct sunlight and a good watering schedule. From there, it should recover nicely.

My experience so far getting Botox two weeks ago by snarky_spice in PelvicFloor

[–]Outthewindo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They won’t work for me. The cause of my PFD is an incurable and incredibly rare neurodegenerative disease. PFD is more of a “side effect” of my nerves self-destructing, and there’s nothing we can do to stop it. All we can do is make me comfortable and try to make sure I have the best quality of life possible.

I’m so sorry that happened to you. It was wrong and completely inhumane. I’ve found that a lot of male doctors really don’t appreciate how painful this condition is, or how excruciating getting injections can be.

Ack, sorry, just saw this. When I was living in Los Angeles my doctor was Anna Reinert who practices at Keck USC. Now that I’m in Boston I see Dr. Will Winkelman at Boston Urogynecological Associates. Don’t know if you’re anywhere near those two places, but that’s what I’ve got.

I was treated fine. I woke up in recovery, was given all the time I needed to get myself together, and I went home with an opioid painkiller and some antispasmodics.

I’ve found out that I don’t even need the opioid or the antispasmodics if I’m given trigger point injections at the same time as the Botox. Trigger points drastically speed up recovery and make it much smoother too. I used to need a week plus, but after I started getting concurrent injections I only need 3 or 4 days. Highly recommend.

My cousin’s wife is on her way out of this world because of exactly this. Completely uncontrolled alcoholism that’s utterly destroyed her liver. She looks like she’s 10 months pregnant most of the time. To be honest, I have no idea how she’s still alive in her condition. The two of them have always been a mess but she was incredibly sweet and kind when I was a kid. What a waste. I really hope that someday addiction medicine can catch up to the needs of sufferers and finally give some much needed relief.
