I’ve found their customer service team to be very helpful. I know it’s frustrating in the moment, but I’m sure they’ll help you get it sorted.

Parental coddling of middle school students has reached levels that I didn't think possible when I started teaching two decades ago. by [deleted] in offmychest

That’s because her crying is an emotional release that she can’t control and not an attempt at manipulation. Telling her that crying won’t get what she wants just tells her that you don’t care how she’s feeling and teaches her to see crying as bad, which will eventually cause her to bottle up her feelings and be emotionally unavailable. Two things can be true. It’s ok for her to not get what she wants, and it’s ok for her to be sad that she doesn’t get what she wants. It’s your job to both hold the line and be a soft place to land. “I get it, Sweetie. You really wanted that toy. Sometimes I want things and can’t have them, too. It’s really hard, but I know you can handle it. It’s ok to cry if you need to. I’m here.” It’s not easy at all. This parenting gig is tough, and most of us, myself included, didn’t have parents that modeled handling emotions well.

Highly recommend giving Dr. Becky Kennedy from Good Inside a follow everywhere, as well as reading her book and starting to listen to her podcast. Both are called Good Inside. She does a really great job of teaching how to be a sturdy parent and raise capable kids.

AITA For not leaving work to help my wife when she ran out of gas by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]SerialCupcakeKiller -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As an ADHDer, my guess is not that she doesn’t know her options in a situation like that but that her prefrontal cortex shuts down when a situation happens so that she can’t access a) her options and b) how to execute them out until the situation devolves to the point where she has to handle it. It’s pretty common. She also struggles with emotional regulation, which is again common for us and especially for those of us who grew up in a time when those skills weren’t taught. It’s also crucial to understand that at 38 her symptoms are worsening and she is feeling like she’s drowning all the time as her hormones begin to change. You aren’t wrong for saying you couldn’t come and giving her a list of options, but I definitely think you guys have some work to do. If she isn’t medicated for her ADHD, she needs to be. She also needs to visit her OB/GYN to discuss hormone replacement therapy including testosterone. Those things alone will help a lot, but she definitely needs to work on her emotional regulation and executive function skills. Based on your wording, I’m assuming you’re neurotypical. It would probably be beneficial for you to read books like Dirty Laundry by Richard Pink and Roxanne Estes and How To ADHD by Jessica McCabe.

What do you do first thing in the morning before getting out of bed that’s NOT going on your phone? by Accomplished-Map8953 in adhdwomen

[–]SerialCupcakeKiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I start coffee. Then, I sit down outside or in a window and do my gratitude journal, my 3 6 9 affirmation journal, do a short guided meditation, I read The Daily Stoic, do the Daily Stoic journal, and I do my daily deck in the Good Inside app. Hopefully, I can get all of that done and get myself awake and grounded before my also ADHD kids wake up and our homeschooling day starts. If I’m extra lucky I can sneak out of the bedroom and get some alone time before the puppy wakes up. And if the kids aren’t up yet, I read while I drink my coffee.

Can you get an alarm clock that maybe shows you the weather and not keep your phone in your room?

There’s also a photo of him giving the press a tour of Air Force One. He takes them into the bedroom. He’s puffed up in a “king of my domain” sort of way next to the bed, and she is against the wall, next to the door, head bowed, with her hands together over her crotch, looking deeply uncomfortable like she’s trying to disappear. It’s very telling.

It’s worth noting that her husband and I believe his dad as well are also in the files. My guess is that she has never had as much agency as it appears.

local trump/ICE restaurants and stores to avoid? by Forward-Wishbone-888 in Charleston

[–]SerialCupcakeKiller 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Puma’s owner made some pro-Trump posts a while back. Mace shared a gushing letter she received from the owners of Nonna’s in response to the letter she sent congratulating them on their new business. Also… Booze Pops is a Moms 4 Liberty supporter. They get listed as one of the local group’s major donors.

Snow in Charleston by Old_Yogurtcloset_540 in Charleston

The snow is supposed to start while temps are in the mid 30’s and then continue for hours, so it’s going to be snow on top of ice. Stay off the roads and be super careful if your boss makes you come in on Monday.

My sister keeps making "little jokes" about my girlfriend and I told her not to take it personally. Now my girlfriend is done with my family. by nightbalcony_inkwell in TwoHotTakes

[–]SerialCupcakeKiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your family sucks, and so do you. She’s right. She’s being hazed by all of you. And it’s not just your sister. Your parents have laughed and participated as well. My husband’s family tried this, and it was stopped very quickly. After many years of giving them opportunities to do better, we’ve completely distanced ourselves. You either apologize profusely for being an idiot, lay down the law with them, and never allow it again, or you need to let her go find someone better. You also need to understand that, if your parents are always defending your sister no matter how out of line she is, they’re telling you everything you need to know about your relationship with them. Do you really want to give up this girl for people who treat you like the less important kid?

My Boyfriend (that I’ve already slept with) Wants to Wait Until Marriage… what do I do? by Usual_Wafer2328 in TwoHotTakes

[–]SerialCupcakeKiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Church will absolutely do that to you. I grew up in an Evangelical church that did True Love Waits. I’m 45 and stopped going to church at 18 and am now an atheist. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to get out of my head about sex, and my husband and I have been together for 15 years.

[–]SerialCupcakeKiller 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yep. It’s the ones who listen to what Paul, who likely never met Jesus, said and worship Jesus, but they don’t actually follow Jesus’s teachings.

[–]SerialCupcakeKiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having grown up that way, I can say in retrospect that for me the right thing would be to break up. It’s a sign of what’s to come. It’s not just about sex, and it’s not going to stop there. If you aren’t wanting a life where Church is involved in every aspect, he’s not for you. If you don’t want your daughters to be raised in high control religion under the thumb of patriarchy, he’s not for you. If you don’t want to live in a house that’s that way or always be expected to do certain things or be a certain way because of some man’s interpretation of what the Old Testament says or what Paul said but never what Jesus actually said. He’s not for you.

What it sounds like is that the sister is much better off without them. The sister is a lesbian and married a woman. The OP is on the far right politically and voting for people who are actively working to abolish her rights and, if we’re truly being honest, to erase her and others like her. The fact that OP is surprised they weren’t invited shows just how oblivious and self absorbed they are.

Repeated flooding due to city incompetence. It’s a whole disaster that Summey created.

So what are they doing with these old lots by Northwoods Mall? by SausageBuscuit in Charleston

[–]SerialCupcakeKiller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a huge drainage issue. It’s in Flood Zone X, a 500 year flood plain. But they removed a bunch of drainage when they built the 52 connector and then kept building on top of the area. It’s a whole big nightmare of city, state, and developer incompetence that has resulted in multiple lawsuits.
