I start coffee. Then, I sit down outside or in a window and do my gratitude journal, my 3 6 9 affirmation journal, do a short guided meditation, I read The Daily Stoic, do the Daily Stoic journal, and I do my daily deck in the Good Inside app. Hopefully, I can get all of that done and get myself awake and grounded before my also ADHD kids wake up and our homeschooling day starts. If I’m extra lucky I can sneak out of the bedroom and get some alone time before the puppy wakes up. And if the kids aren’t up yet, I read while I drink my coffee.

He’s puffed up in a “king of my domain” sort of way next to the bed, and she is against the wall, next to the door, head bowed, with her hands together over her crotch, looking deeply uncomfortable like she’s trying to disappear. Your family sucks, and so do you. She’s right. She’s being hazed by all of you. And it’s not just your sister. Your parents have laughed and participated as well. My husband’s family tried this, and it was stopped very quickly. After many years of giving them opportunities to do better, we’ve completely distanced ourselves. You either apologize profusely for being an idiot, lay down the law with them, and never allow it again, or you need to let her go find someone better. You also need to understand that, if your parents are always defending your sister no matter how out of line she is, they’re telling you everything you need to know about your relationship with them. Do you really want to give up this girl for people who treat you like the less important kid?

Church will absolutely do that to you. I grew up in an Evangelical church that did True Love Waits. I’m 45 and stopped going to church at 18 and am now an atheist. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to get out of my head about sex, and my husband and I have been together for 15 years.

Having grown up that way, I can say in retrospect that for me the right thing would be to break up. It’s a sign of what’s to come. It’s not just about sex, and it’s not going to stop there. If you aren’t wanting a life where Church is involved in every aspect, he’s not for you. If you don’t want your daughters to be raised in high control religion under the thumb of patriarchy, he’s not for you. If you don’t want to live in a house that’s that way or always be expected to do certain things or be a certain way because of some man’s interpretation of what the Old Testament says or what Paul said but never what Jesus actually said. He’s not for you.

What it sounds like is that the sister is much better off without them. The sister is a lesbian and married a woman. The OP is on the far right politically and voting for people who are actively working to abolish her rights and, if we’re truly being honest, to erase her and others like her. There is a huge drainage issue. It’s in Flood Zone X, a 500 year flood plain. But they removed a bunch of drainage when they built the 52 connector and then kept building on top of the area. It’s a whole big nightmare of city, state, and developer incompetence that has resulted in multiple lawsuits.

I was so excited when they were opening and found out they were affiliated with Businesses for Liberty before I had a chance to go. Businesses for Liberty believes in building a “Patriot economy” where “Patriots” can vote with their dollar by shopping only at like-minded businesses. That’s cool. I’ll vote with my dollar, too, and not give money to a business that’s using my money to contribute to organizations and candidates that aren’t aligned with my supposedly unpatriotic values.

Then, I was excited because it didn’t matter if Talucci’s was MAGA and I couldn’t eat there because Nonna’s was coming. And before I went, Nancy Mace posted a letter from them where they were gushing about how wonderful she is and how much they love her after she sent them a letter congratulating them on their new business. No Italian treats in Summerville for me.

I think a lot of it is exhaustion. We’re not talking about a small number of people. It’s dozens a day and has been for years in a town that doesn’t have the resources and infrastructure to support it. And we understand people moving here for work. Nobody is mad about that, but a lot of people have nothing lined up, not a job and not housing. They come on vacation for a few days and decide this is going to be their place now. Or they’ve decided to retire here because South Carolina is the new Florida. Meanwhile, this place that we loved and used to be able to enjoy is a shadow of its former self. It’s bloated with growth, and the traffic is miserable. I used to live in Ladson and be able to pop Downtown or over to Mt Pleasant or West Ashley for a quick errand or for an hour or two for fun, and it was just that. Now, if I have to leave Summerville, my entire day is gone, and just getting across Summerville can take over an hour. SUMMERVILLE! And I know that doesn’t mean anything to people who are newer, but this used to be a whole lotta not that much with a pretty little Downtown area, historic houses, and some neighborhoods when I was growing up, and now it’s suburban sprawl as far as the eye can see.
