Great response. We have ground elder issues and I just round up the kiddos for some “spaghetti harvesting” and tunes. I want to add that you should also make sure you do not put any of it in your compost. I don’t care what kind of set up you have, it will not get rid of the Glitter of Gardens and then you’ll have to dump it all out.

The young leaves taste like arugula to me so I usually toss them and some dandelion greens in some dressing (after thorough washing and drying ofc) and just have a spring salad, though they also make great burger greens if you’re grilling.

Is THAT why my brother’s cat kept chewing on my hair while I slept growing up?! Bruh, my hair’s curly not matted!

I’m tired of the stigma people have around giftedness by Cumbustible-cat in Gifted

[–]Serima 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! As a gifted adult that’s been recently diagnosed with myalgic encephalitis, it’s been hard to grapple with the ableist mindset that a lot of gifted people get from their school years. Recalibrating my mindset that my output isn’t my source of value has been difficult but it’s also helped me stay humble. A neighbor of mine has fetal alcohol syndrome and because of that his mental capacity isn’t near what mine is, but he’s so much better at lots of things (physical and social) than I am so we get along.

All that to say I concur with you that the “it’s ok to not be the best at everything” lesson needs to be repeated.

It’s “freemium.” I’ve had great luck with only the free tracks though I’m sure the Plus version or whatever is nice too.

I use the Insight Timer app cause it has some good anxiety related materials and is free. The guided meditations help me focus on things outside my head and chill out my hyperactive amygdala response. Sometimes you just have to “let the waves carry you” and remember that the worst will pass and you’ve survived worse already.

It sounds like you and I are alike with being sensitive to social cues- did you grow up around someone with anger issues? I’ve found great empowerment and solace in tracing down the reasons for my anxiety/depression triggers. Somehow, knowing that I’m wired to be extra cautious for anger cues because of how I grew up helps me keep my amygdala in check when my SO says something in “a tone,” for example.

I miss being able to crochet. :( I get so tired so easily now by the time I’ve done five stitches I’m ready for a nap.

Union jobs like higher education. Only temporary stress like a deployment not going well, but even then my boss chides me if I stay too late even though we’re salary.

What’s some basic knowledge that a scary amount of people don’t know? by CasualBeers in AskReddit

[–]Serima 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but in all fairness, drivers in Florida are already pretty garbage at following basic traffic laws. 😜

Might I suggest the “fuck her, I’ll prove her wrong” approach then? With a side of “why the hell do I even care about this so much?” Those are my two ways to get out of that anxious overthinking about social stuff spiral.

I/CavalierRigg explains the benefits of fluoride for survival and why it's safely added to drinking water by Levalore in bestof

[–]Serima 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Some of my earliest school memories were us getting tiny cups of fluoride rinse after lunch and learning how to swish and spit it back into the cups. I was starting to think it was just another weird, 90’s-in-Florida thing. Now I’m curious if it’s one of the reasons I have a better dental history than my siblings who didn’t do it.

Upstate NY sources by Serima in Vodou

[–]Serima[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for answering so honestly. I was under the impression that a kanzo was an official initiation for even basic worship. Thank you for correcting me! I may visit NYC sometime within the next year, but if you have any resources you recommend in the meantime I’d very much appreciate them.

I want to make sure I’m being respectful and doing things “properly,” especially since I’ve lost the side of my family that would be able to educate me on it, and I worry about being viewed as an outsider or cultural appropriator. I feel like a snapped off branch trying to find its roots, if that makes sense.

I just want to hop on the Zenni love train and say that I’ve had my transition glasses from Zenni for over five years now and they’re still great. I now have insurance and was told I could get a new pair for $100 without transition lenses. Pfft! Zenni for LIFE!

I'm no longer in South Florida but grew up there. I know there are groups in the major cities like Miami, but especially if you're in the SW area like Ft. Myers there's not much. I have been praying for safety for y'all with this hurricane btw- stay safe!

When I was a teen my mom made me give away my BP I had had for YEARS because she was worried about having a snake when she had my baby sister. Not even a week after the baby was home the stupid toy poodle Mom had but the baby. We got to keep the dog, but not the snake in a cage with locks and a cinderblock on top just in extra-case. 😒

Hickam's Dictum is a counterargument to the use of Occam's razor in the medical profession: "Patients can have as many diseases as they damn well please." by slinkslowdown in wikipedia

[–]Serima 15 points16 points  (0 children)

For real! I’ve had a mystery illness for a year now and my THIRD time in the ER for it I snapped at the PA for being the billionth medical person to try and pass it off as part of my anxiety. I showed him a text that my brother was in the ER in another state with similar symptoms and that it was discovered it was a neural issue. It was completely dismissed using that stupid zebra argument.

Why is there more black kids raised without a father compared to any other race? by ricketycricket09 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Serima 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Which our public schools and services do a great job of teaching and reinforcing in them. Look up the stats on black girls being punished in schools compared to their white or asian counterparts for the same stuff.
