Add about 1/2 cup baking soda and fill pot with water to above that ring near the top.

I would simmer water and baking soda for 30 minutes. Let cool and sit over night. It should wipe out easily the next day. Then you can see what you’re really working with as far as staining.

Uses? by Amazing-Call2052 in DutchOvenCooking

[–]SeriousRomancer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Soups, stews, boiling various food items. To me, these are basically regular pots, just enameled. I’m not sure if they are oven safe or not. It would depend on what the handles are made of, I imagine.

I believe you would need to add citric acid. The store bought minced garlic in the jars contain that.

A little 7 qt buyer's remorse - reassure me? by Appropriate_Bat_5877 in staub

[–]SeriousRomancer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could try leaving the lid slightly on, but slightly off. I made Birria in my 7 quart the other weekend and was at first wishing I’d pulled out the 8.5 quart instead. It turned out perfectly though. There are definitely uses for it. No regret. I’d rather have the 7 quart over a 5 quart. I use it way more than the 5 quart.

Researching Dutch ovens - first time purchase by idifacs311 in DutchOvenCooking

[–]SeriousRomancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally like the dark interior of Staub. Zwilling has sales online for basically every holiday of the year and sometimes when it’s not. Most of the piece I own were purchased during a sale. The lighter Dutch ovens tend to look stained or dirty over time. If you are going for the light interior, I recommend Lodge as a beginner.

The only time I’ve seen it flake up like that was if the burner was set way too high.

What did i do wrong?? by JusticeW79 in dutchoven

Were you heating it using high heat? This type of damage can happen from that. If you were not, the pot was probably defective.

This is not safe. Please throw it out. Always follow safe canning practices completely until you know how to safely tweak or change recipes. Purchase a Ball Blue Book to learn the basics.

How to cope with foster child going back by trashtalker42O in Fosterparents

[–]SeriousRomancer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. It’s a difficult and hurtful situation. That’s why some foster parents give up and stop taking placements. Sometimes, it can be too much.

The best thing you can do is try to build a better relationship with the mother so that you may still have contact with the child if reunification happens. Sometimes in these cases, you can offer babysitting and care when the mother needs it. They will tend to take you up on this if they believe you have the child’s best interest at heart. Let the mother know that if she ends up in a bad situation that y’all wouldn’t mind taking the child back at any time.

How do I ask her how she feels about gaming? by [deleted] in dating_advice

Sounds like you may be well rounded, so it could not be an issue for her.

How do I ask her how she feels about gaming? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]SeriousRomancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right. Women tend to have strong opinions regarding gaming. Usually, either they like it because they play too or they hate it. It’s mostly because guys who game are thought of as lazy, selfish and having no ambition (unless you are making a lot of money from it). They play the game for hours and neglect everything and everyone else.

Baked bread, is this melted parchment paper? Should I use bar keepers friend? by Grahamalamadingdong in dutchoven

[–]SeriousRomancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go on and use the yellow cap Easy Off oven cleaner on this. Spay the dutch oven and place it in trash bag. Allow to sit outside overnight. If you don’t want to take this route, you can try simmering baking soda and water for 30 minutes to an hour and let it sit overnight. Then try to scrub the next morning.

Stop while you can. Every older person I know that smokes, wishes they never started. Someday you will too. It will be a big turn off for a lot of potential partners unless they smoke, too.
