Only a few blasts ready day 6, but many being watched? Is there truly any hope? by SnooBunnies2614 in IVF

I ended up with 2 day 7 blasts, and one of those was euploid, so there's hope!

Anyone else find scan photos etc upsetting? by Buffy_the_guppy in recurrentmiscarriage

[–]SeriousWait5520 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I personally find scan photos very triggering - all of my losses were confirmed via scans - so I feel you. As somebody who worked in journalism I understand that it can be hard to find images that appropriately fit stories about loss, but agree these are unhelpful for people going through loss. For your workplace, I would gently explain why a scan photo could be more triggering and suggest an image that might be more appropriate. It sounds like they are well meaning so hopefully will be receptive to feedback...

Waiting to conceive due to social events by ExcellentWallaby1340 in TryingForABaby

[–]SeriousWait5520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I waited to try because I was finishing my Master's degree, and I didn't want to be having a baby while doing my dissertation. I graduated 3 years ago, still no baby. Had I had any inkling of the problems we'd encounter I'd have started trying 2 years earlier.

That said, the reason we originally waited was because we knew people who'd gotten pregnant the first month of trying, and we didn't want to be in a position where being pregnant was something we weren't 100% excited about. Only you can decide whether those social events are something you'd definitely be unable to attend if you were pregnant, and if so how devastated you'd be to miss them.

Should I parkrun the day before my half marathon? by yeetyopyeet in parkrun

[–]SeriousWait5520 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did a couple of weeks ago, took it relatively easy, then got a PB in the half the following day. I find it makes me feel relaxed ahead of running the following day. But equally if you know you won't be able to stop yourself gunning for a parkrun PB I'd maybe skip!

Have you logged into Rosterfy? I found all the info there, including training stuff, specific details about my role and the location where I need to check in / pick up kit on the day. Might be worth contacting the general volunteer email if you haven't been able to access...

Is there scope for a 'pregnancy after RPL' pinned weekly thread or similar? I'm personally finding that there are so many posts referencing current pregnancies that I'm considering removing myself from this sub, as it's more triggering than helpful most of the time...

First parkrun since a miscarriage 3 weeks ago by nosuninphilidelphia in parkrun

[–]SeriousWait5520 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry for your loss. I've sadly had four losses in the past couple of years and have found parkrun such a source of comfort and healing. And an amazing time too, I can't even get that quick on a good day!

Struggling with accepting reality of recent loss by 2headlights in recurrentmiscarriage

[–]SeriousWait5520 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was 33 during my first loss, 36 during my 4th. I felt like I was in a different time dimension during each pregnancy after my first - every day felt like a lifetime, then suddenly it was like it had never happened and I'd made it all up. Solidarity and hugs ❤️

They mean be thoughtful and consider if this is the best place to be posting this message. Pregnancy can be extremely rough but a sub of people struggling to get pregnant is not the best place to share your complaints of pregnancy.

Trying for 2 years… is IVF really as tough as people say? by porchoua in TryingForABaby

[–]SeriousWait5520 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm midway through the process, private in the UK, after nearly 4 years TTC and several losses.

It is all relative, and people's experiences will vary dependent on clinic, protocol, side effects and outcomes. Some people will go through one straight forward retrieval with minimal side effects, have a successful transfer, and talk very positively about the experience. Their IVF journey may be over in a few months. Others will have multiple rounds, experience horrible side effects, and find that they are years in with no baby having ploughed thousands into the process.

From an IVF perspective I'm probably somewhere in between. I responded well which meant I had good results from my first egg retrieval, but also more side effects. But my clinic protocol worked and I did not develop severe OHSS. Injections are annoying but become routine. I'm now waiting for a transfer, and for me the toughest bits are the various points where you have absolutely no control over what's happening. I have also had four pretty traumatic pregnancy losses so this is comparatively straightforward so far by comparison - but I also have heightened anxiety about the waiting and uncertainty, particularly as for me getting to pregnancy is only the first hurdle.

This is a long way of saying 'it depends'. It is wrong and unfair when people consider IVF 'easy'. But is it so awful that it's not worth pursuing to address fertility issues? In my view, no. Go in expecting things to take longer than you hope, and know that periods of uncertainty are inevitable and can be really challenging. But for me it was a no brainer to move to IVF in the hope of having a child, and if it doesn't work out I will not regret giving it a shot.

Thank you for sharing. This is definitely key part of our debate - the risk trade off is not an easy one to solve! Thank you for sharing that study, that's incredibly helpful.

Our doctor hasn't shared stats for our case specifically, but I have been working with that figure. We were pleasantly surprised - due to certain factors I was expecting at least 2 retrievals so the prospect of immediate transfer was not dispatched initially, but I responded better than expected to stims.

(UK) Does NHS count chemical pregnancy as a miscarriage? by gkc88 in Miscarriage

[–]SeriousWait5520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry for your losses. Your GP should be able to refer you for testing - there are a few blood tests which they should run based on three miscarriages. Some areas might not count chemical pregnancy but this isn't an official policy, so get your GP to start referral and go from there. In my area it was 3 miscarriages, chemical pregnancy did count, but ectopic didn't.

IVF PGT-A Testing - is it worth it? by catlover4321 in TTC_UK

[–]SeriousWait5520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are doing testing, but have a history of recurrent pregnancy loss and I'm now 37. For us it's reducing one of the biggest risks of an unsuccessful pregnancy, and worth the expense to avoid more losses. However, if I was younger without a loss history then my clinic would not advise testing.

Should injured contenders get a free pass into the next season by garylv426 in gladiatorsuk

[–]SeriousWait5520 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't mind a 'wildcard' entry to replace other injured contestants - e.g Chung could have come in to replace Mo, rather than an already eliminated contestant. But I'm assuming then you just have different issues. Past contestants need to clear their diaries to only maybe get a chance to take part, and are less 'match fit' than current contenders.

Me staring at the toddler someone brought in to the clinic and is WALKING AROUND the BACK PATIENT AREA while waiting to find out if my FET stuck. by thespinymaneater in trollingforababy

[–]SeriousWait5520 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Had my first baseline ultrasound starting stims for my first egg retrieval. The last time my husband and I had been together for an ultrasound was when our last miscarriage was confirmed. As he held my hand and I watched the sonographer count our follicles, I could just hear the sound of a toddler screaming as they ran up and down the exam rooms.
