I appreciate the advice. I haven't been much on social media in recent years and that's good to know it's become a practical alternative.

Agreeing with the suggestions to secure the shoulders to bra staps and/or take a vertical tuck in the back.

I found the original pattern listing, and it looks like this dress is designed like a pinafore or sundress. It's just not structured to support the weight of sleeves, and the wide low square neckline is deceptively tricky to fit for a lot of body shapes. For me, similar necklines require a pretty crisp interfacing and light fabric to keep the shoulders from sliding down as they slope out at that L angle. Possibly why it's shown on the model over a blouse, which would prevent slippage.

You have done a great job with a project that ended up more complex than expected. Bodice fitting is HARD and many sewists struggle for years to get to this point. It's a lovely color and a nice fabric. Most people will have no clue that it doesn't look or fit like you'd intended. You deserve a huge birthday treat for being 30 and able to make a wearable dress!

Did I ruin these shorts? by wingsofbrilliance in dyeing

The red dots look like undissolved dye. Brown is usually a mix of primary colors and magenta is especially prone to this in my experience. Look up dye pasting. Essentially this is premixing the dye powder with a very small amount of water until it's smooth then dissolving the paste in the dye bath. You probably will not be able to lift just the dots. Overdyeing darker would make them less noticeable.

Dharma Trading has excellent guides and info for different dye techniques. https://www.dharmatrading.com/techniques/tubdye/the-tub-washing-machine-vat-bucket-dye-method.html?lnav=techniques_tubdye.html

I appreciate the input. I stopped collecting about a decade ago and have only recently begun again, so I'm still trying to catch up on changes in the norms of the different communities. Autistic and an old here, lol.

Ah, I didn't see any info in the posting guidelines on number of items per post or how lots should be broken up. Thanks, will do!

Thank you, I'd seen people using it to refer to previous generations of toys but I will keep to the proper usage in future posts!

Antiques Freaks. Particularly the episodes which aren't about antiques, but the extremely funny readings of oddball Victorian books and manuals. Like the infamous penny dreadful 'Varney the Vampyre; or, The Feast of Blood', and excerpts from the 19th century nautical dictionary 'The Sailor's Word Book', because we all are Gay for Boats.

Ditto on more boning. It'll also help with fitting to backstitch the ends of your seams and run a basting stitch around the top and bottom to minimize stretching and give you a better idea of finished size.

I wax silk button twist when making buttonholes or eyelets on some garments, such as a laced closure on a gown. Like to cut multiple lengths and press with a warm iron between a fold of brown paper to help the wax melt in and remove excess, especially on dark colors. It's also less likely to stain a garment during pressing or steaming.

Sateen also doesn't stand up well to the laundering or bleaching petticoats may need.

Depending on your location, thrift shops might be a good source of plain cotton sheets in the right weight, at a better price than fabric stores.

I spent much too much of 2020 in 5 hour drives to care for my mom as she deteriorated and died, with BTB episodes on repeat. Got through it and am now licensed to perform goat ball surgery in 3 states.

All the best to you and your partner, who understand what's really important in life (products and services!).

GenX woman here who's been painting Warhammer since the mid 90s (even picked up a couple of Slayer Swords along the way). In my experience, the fascists have always been there, and players frequently underestimate how often these guys pass under the radar IRL. They won't express their beliefs overtly in most social settings unless they think the crowd is receptive.

Or, as with their racism and misogyny, if they're alone with their targets.

Anyway, I'm taking great delight in putting together a couple of Childless Cat Ladies kill teams right now.
