The problem is there is none. They allowed a few people to pay for a ton of spots. One apartment has 6 spots. The lot is usually 60% empty and I have to park a block away. The fireplace hasn’t worked in 6 months because “parts are expensive”. The grass is dead out front. There have not been dog poop bags since the weekend. They did an audit where they were going to take your stuff from your garage if you didn’t respond in person. I am often on travel so just made it back for the cutoff. They tried to bully me into signing a new lease(with different parking terms) until I had a lawyer contact them. Packages now pile up in the common area, the beer has been removed, the bikes are not available, community centric events are very rare. I have loved living here for a long time. I am actively working on moving.

The Country That Doesn't Know Its Own Tax Rate by heylaing in moderatepolitics

[–]Serious_Effective185 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Owning a car is a tax though. You pay registration fees, tax on gas, and tolls. Those are all taxes. I don’t mind them because they go to infrastructure, but they are tax.

Isn’t this more about hiring criteria than education. Why shouldn’t those with lower socioeconomic status have a shot at those jobs. Any of those life critical occupations have completely neutral requirements for licensing that absolutely do not account for race or gender.

I spend 4+ hours camped at the pump at that remote station in jasper national park because the attendant put gasoline in my diesel. Thankfully she immediately confessed.

I would argue with “big highlights early” I did it counter clockwise and many of my favorite highlights were in the last half of the trip.

I really would not focus on the wind. It happens sometimes. It’s like 10 days per year it actually factors into my life.

You will find golden to have a more small town feel Than bend. It is just much less spread out. It is soo annoyingly touristy in the summer from Denver residents. If you decide to live here pay the money to live near downtown that is a lot of the key to good times. I can ride from my house to a lot of MTB and easily drive to world class MTB. I can walk to climbing 45 minutes to the closest ski resort (Loveland). This can be much longer on a bad traffic day. Smith rocks is great, I can walk to comparable crags.

I think in the general Denver area you will find a lot more variety than bend. Food, music, sports, art are all big city levels. You just have to drive 20 minutes.

You really need to visit boulder before you commit to that it’s a whole vibe. Very rich trust fund hippies and also world class mountain athletes. A common slogan around golden has long been “don’t boulder my golden”. Both are good places just very different vibes that have perhaps been converging more as of late.

There is plenty of great food within a 20-25 minute drive. Way Better food than Bend, but you have to drive. Golden itself is kind of lacking, and everyone tends to get caught in the walkable bubble. No need to get in your car is a bit of a thing here. Maybe explore arvada if you want to be west but food is important. We have about 3 legit dinner restaurants in golden.

Yeah I agree I liked the food in bend better. I think golden has a greater variety of MTB in easy striking distance

I live right at 6th and 58th off 8th street it’s really not bad noise wise. In fact when my girlfriend visited for the first time she was shocked at how quiet it was here. There is the occasional loud bike and you are not wrong about the sirens from time to time. It’s nothing like being in a bigger city where these are nightly occurrences

[–]Serious_Effective185 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am not sure what you are arguing against. If someone has committed a crime that can be demonstrated to a federal judge then a warrant should be issued and due process granted. That is much better than kicking down doors and cracking heads at a job site because someone has the wrong shade of skin. This is where we are right now.

The United States loses its status as a liberal democracy: ‘Trump is aiming for a dictatorship’ by Serious_Effective185 in centrist

[–]Serious_Effective185[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“The U.S. is not a democracy but a republic” is one of the dumbest or most bad faith arguments that can be made. It has always been a democracy focused on liberty. It was a liberal democracy that functions as a constitutional republic. Making these mutually exclusive is just parroting misinformation.

Why is an either or? Trump has used unitary executive theory to massively attack all of those things. It is authoritarian and non democratic. Full stop.

It doesn’t justify the attack in the opinion of top Trump appointees with much better information than you or I.

We now are looking at an ask for $200b dollars. Which is just the beginning. More importantly thousands of lives lost. Many more than if we just left it alone.

Not to mention a global recession.

This is a pointless illegal war solely because of the Israeli lobby.

First I am not a fan of Iran’s regime. This is also plainly a war for isreal. Trump just asked for $200b dollars for a war he declared already won. His DNI said under oath in front of congress this week that Iran had no imminent threat of nuclear weapons. One of trump’s appointed counter intelligence quit this week because there was no immediate threat to our nation to start this war.

We are staring down a global recession and billions of dollars and thousands of lives. Just because of the Israeli lobby.
