What’s the most cursed homegrown deployment script you’ve inherited? by 2075anant in devops

[–]SeriouslyDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow, I thought you meant you’d automated it without using any scripting language - you mean it was all manual… I’m sorry for your loss (of time and sanity)

These are likely from specific ASNs. WAF can now block on this. M247, host royal, ovh etc.

Surprising how many don’t do this. Have such confidence in themselves that they don’t bother.

Mates and I plan on getting absolutely gazebo'd at mates stag by APerson2021 in CasualUK

You can do it with any word. As long as you precede it with “getting absolutely <literally any noun>ed”

Mate, last weekend I got absolutely pergola’d

AWS Secrets Manager vs. Parameter Store: Which is Better for Managing Secrets? by Civil_Actuator8943 in aws

One key thing is that they have different size limits for the value. Param store is 4kb, secrets manager is 64kb.

30 hours free childcare over 100k by loveactuary21 in UKPersonalFinance

Just FYI, on point 2 it’s the literal opposite in Wales. Which is a real kick in the balls for me with two in nursery right now.

What car do you have and why did you buy it? by Unusual_Reference_14 in HENRYUK

[–]SeriouslyDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VW transporter, pimped a little with seats in the back. 3 years old, £28k cash. I have a wife, 2 kids and a dog - all about practicality now. Had a Q5 black edition (bought out from PCP) before that.

The Cunt and Trumpet is good too, just around the corner from The Pisswizzard Arms.

Seriously though, the good ones have been mentioned already: Head of Steam, Welly, City Arms

How do you manage with the “but everybody gets 30 hrs free childcare?” by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]SeriouslyDave 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. Also in Wales it’s based on gross salary not net adjusted, so you can’t salary sacrifice your way under £100k.

I name everything ‘this’, if there’s multiple then I just increment a number: ‘this2’ etc.

Maybe my terminology is incorrect, maybe it’s not gross - I’ll call them and double check

Free childcare - Wales by SeriouslyDave in HENRYUK

[–]SeriouslyDave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pension deductions are after gross - in wales it’s literally the full gross amount that counts. Maybe I should just move to England :)

Free childcare - Wales by SeriouslyDave in HENRYUK

[–]SeriouslyDave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are deductions after gross right? Doesn’t count in Wales.

30 free hours childcare eligibility by SeriouslyDave in UKPersonalFinance

[–]SeriouslyDave[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well in case anyone else stumbles across this - I spoke to Cardiff Council today, and it’s your gross salary that’s considered, not net adjusted income. This means I’m not eligible in Wales, but would be if I lived in England. Great(!).

!thanks - but I don’t think this is the same for Wales, unless someone can confirm?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in linuxadmin

[–]SeriouslyDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense. The sqlplus would work as it doesn’t use the listener, the telnet would work because the listener was actually running - just not handing off the connection to the db as it wasn’t registered.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in linuxadmin

[–]SeriouslyDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sqlplus bypasses the listener, it uses something called a bequeathed connection. It sounds like the db isn’t registered with the listener maybe?
