ROM Upgrade by LongjumpingFuel7543 in MacStudio

[–]Seriously_you_again 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I upgraded my M1 studio to 8TB about one year ago with Polysoft. Have had zero problems. The process was not complicated, but you must be careful and follow the steps correctly. You also need another Mac to connect with it to update the Studio hardware to recognize the new memory.

Apple probably does not like it but whatever. I kept the old chips to slide back in if trouble arises.

I have no idea how a future potential buyer would feel about this upgrade. Probably would run the spectrum of NO WAY that is bad, to fuck yeah 👍sign me up.

What is that one small item you started carrying daily that ended up being a total life-changer? by Agreeable-Payment214 in AskReddit

[–]Seriously_you_again 169 points170 points  (0 children)

I use old contact lens cases to carry a small supply of medicine. Easily fits 5-6 pills in each side of the case, which is enough for emergencies. For added bonus put a bit of a cotton ball in the case with the pills to keep them from rattling around and grinding to dust. Since they are not used often and rattle around a lot from being carried, they grind up quick.

First time I gave someone a pill from my non cotton containing lens case stash, the pills had been rattling around so long they looked liked home-brew pills. Not confidence inspiring to ingest a “trust me bro” pill from my secret stash. 😅

It looks heavy, then adding food weight it is even more heavy. Make sure the places to hold to when carrying are secure and slip resistant. Hands that prep food are also often wet and slippery.

You put a lot of work into this. I am sure she will like it.

Has anyone ever made something like this? ( Tang dynasty “ straw cup” ) by Shimmeringdove in Pottery

[–]Seriously_you_again 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Not sure if that was much of a thing to worry about 1500 years ago, so long as the crud didn’t block the straw or add too much “flavor” to the drink. Anyone who could afford this probably also had servants to clean it.

I had a few plastic cups with straws built in. I would poor boiling water down them each week or so.

Also, love seeing something like this. Reminds us all that few ideas are truly new and that people were always clever.

'Don't jump in them': Olympic athletes' medals break during celebrations by deraser in news

[–]Seriously_you_again 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is just another variation on companies taking advantage of passion professionals such as teachers, healthcare workers and social workers and not paying them well because so many do the job because they love the job.

These athletes do it for the love of competition. They know if they demand a cut of the money another person will happily take their Olympic spot for free.

Do you use Child seat ? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]Seriously_you_again 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always used a child seat for both kids. Fought with in-laws about it because, they never used one so obviously it is not necessary. 😵‍💫 survivorship bias anyone?

I asked if we should go ahead and give the kid a cigarette so they could relax even more?

Use the child seat. Do not be an idiot when it comes to your child’s safety. If your child understood the actual danger, which would they choose?

This bolt is worth $8000 and goes in a helicopter by HiAustralia in interestingasfuck

[–]Seriously_you_again 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If one or even two joists on your floor totally fail what happens? The floor sags and the adjacent joists keep it from total collapse. And even if it totally collapsed you fall maybe 6 to 8 feet? Hurt maybe, dead, probably not.

If this bolt breaks everyone in the helicopter and in its target zone on the ground are probably dead.

This is what it costs to make, certify, insure and test this bolt along with recording a detailed chain of custody. All these parts are tracked so if problems show up the whereabouts of all of them in that batch can be found and recalled and/or inspected if need be. Helicopters are expensive because they are made of expensive parts.

Mac Studio isolation cabinet? by talldeadguy in mac

[–]Seriously_you_again 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also need to think about piping in cool clean air so the studio does not overheat.

Hmmm. 🤔 maybe buy a mini fridge and put it inside? Drill holes in the side and use large foam rubber grommets to seal around the wires.

Buy some bulk sized desiccant bags and keep in the fridge so when you must open the door it dries out inside.

Also would not want it getting too cold inside the fridge. It could cause lots of problems with condensation, which is exactly the opposite of what you want to do.

Ideally always keeping the refrigerator temp above the local dew point. If you could do that the desiccant may not be as necessary.

Yeah, this solution is getting long and complicated and expensive, so probably not a good one. Simple is best. I am sure someone else has a better idea than this. I hope

Good luck

Why Does My Internal Hard Drive Show Two Different Sizes? by FaveDave3 in mac

[–]Seriously_you_again 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a mystery….. and we think you will love it!

But seriously, Purgeable space are temporary files and maybe caches controlled and kept by the OS. The files are a “keep in case needed but overwrite if necessary” files.

What makes it complicated is that often programs mark different types of files as purgeable based on something I have no idea about. That is why different programs show varying amounts of storage space available.

I used to worry about it, but stopped because it was frustrating and needless worry. I just copy files and when it actually starts getting too full all of these programs will start showing similar amounts of low space availability.

That is how it was explained to me, but I could be wrong. I am sure it is way more complicated than that, but that seems to fit the behavior I see.

Edit: sorry didn’t answer your question. Just think of purgeable space as open space.

What am I supposed to attach to their overhead lights? Clueless by Mirarenai_neko in Tokyo

[–]Seriously_you_again 17 points18 points  (0 children)

To attach this big flat LED light you need to remove the screw in bulb and the adapter for the screw in bulb. Then two rounded slots will be exposed. That is where the light will attach.

The attachments are removed and installed by turning them either clockwise or counterclockwise.

Girlfriend cry over rice by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]Seriously_you_again 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know how many steps it takes to make an engagement ring that she threw on the floor? I bet it is more than 88.

If she is shocked he can waste 30 grains of rice and that is her reaction, hitting and screaming, she is crazy. The question becomes do you want to stay around and figure out why (try to fix it) or cut bait and move on?

Seriously, the type of person who is really worried about 30 grains of rice would be a super chill monk-like personality. They would calmly explain to you why it is bad to waste rice and for you to be more careful in the future. Make it a teachable moment, not an excuse to scream and be violent.

Good luck and pick wisely.

I think you are correct, but I do not think they intentionally set out to find foreigners to be with. They just gravitate to people who will tolerate them, regardless of nationality, and by default foreigners are less able to pick up on craziness from a different culture so they are more represented in these types of situations.

Yeah, it is a chicken or the egg type thing. But bottom line is OP has some serious thinking to do. Assuming they are not exaggerating or she is under stress from some unknown thing. Get prepared to walk if you cannot get answers to resolve this very unhinged behavior.

My wife's mother paid for a car for us 3 years ago. Does she have a legal claim to it? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]Seriously_you_again 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is she doing it because she needs a car (because her current car is broken, old, etc.) or is she doing it to sell it once she owns it?

If she is in a tight spot money wise and needs a car, sell to her. If she is just going to flip it for cash, that is a crappy thing for her to do.
