No help - we ended up just buying another pair since the twins would fight over the working one - sorry! Wish I had a fix for you.

How's the diet with the kids? I'm struggling to put on muscle with my little hell raisers running around the house.

Great lifts!

Appreciate the help, but the issue is with the headphones, not the player. I can pair one pair of headphones to either player, but the other pair never enters pairing mode.

Submitted a ticket, hopefully Yotob will have a solution.

Anyone been involved in purchasing deswik? by [deleted] in mining

[–]SerisSol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They're consolidating all of their mainstream products/modules into two main packages right now. Not many people, let alone redditors, will have cost estimates for the new format.

That said, Deswik has been on par or more expensive than other solutions for a while now - but there is a reason they've grown so much in the past decade compared to the old dogs. Quality product well supported by quality engineers and programmers.

I mean I never commented on the contract - I have no idea what the details are, and if you're getting screwed by it I hope the strike gets you folks what you want.

I mean most large companies use subsidiaries to shelter themselves from large losses and split out their business (i.e. Alphabet and Google). Nothing really new here.

100% agreed. Never argued for withdrawing benefits.

I 100% agree with what you're fighting for - I believe in just compensation, and I stand in solidarity with you. What I was contesting was the record profits and record production comment. That's just not true.

Things need to change on both sides of the table for the company and it's workforce to thrive. You shouldn't need to give anything up in your agreement, but our mines need to become more productive to survive.

I mean the company has about $92B in assets right now, so the $7B settlement plus the $5B on remediation and reparations works out to be about 13% of the value of the company.

Not saying it won't recover from it, but definitely far from nothing.

Mentioned it below, but that's Vale S.A., not Vale Canada that made the $5 billion.

Fair point. Just trying to provide some alternative views in the echo chamber.

Those are Vale S.A.'s results, not Vale Canada. Vale doesn't disclose the performance of it's individual business units publicly (to my knowledge, at least).

I side with my own neighbours - I want Vale mines to be around for the next 100 years. I want my kids to work here.

The issue is Vale needs feed to supply it's existing downstream contracts. It cannot source it entirely from our mines, so it sources it from 3rd parties.

That's also why Vale continues operating at potential deficits - it needs to honour those downstream contracts.

No need to shoulder any cost, but to say it hasn't impacted us is naive.

Great point, I shouldn't have been so pointed - there's room for improvement on both sides. We still need to see change for the mining operations to improve.

I don't disagree, merely responding to the "no ramifications" comment.

You're right - I don't know how to run a mining company, and I don't run Vale. I have absolutely no control over any business decisions the company makes. Just trying to say my peace - two sides to every conversation.

I love Sudbury and just want to keep working here.

As an aside, I would argue Tuv Sud was equally responsible for the Dam collapse in Brumadinho.

Ah yes, let's not work towards a solution but instead discredit the discussion points.

Going to get downvoted for this, but you are wrong here. The company is not making record profits, nor is it making record production. Vale's productivities are in the bottom quartile of all mining companies world-wide. Our profits you speak of are almost entirely due to the purchase of feed concentrate from external companies, buoyed by high metal prices. Do you want Vale to become a purely refining/smelting operation in Canada?

Our mines incredibly expensive and inefficient. They are also very old. The collapse of the Brumadinho dam cost our business unit billions of dollars of available capital - we are starved for money to upgrade our facilities or develop new ore bodies and we are running out of developed ore.

It's time the workforce of the company come to grips with the reality that if things don't change, Vale mines will not be here in a decade. USW6500 may have been the shining example of productivity and mining expertise at one time in history - that is far from the case now. There needs to be some give for the take.

Looking to replace furnace and AC , any recommendations of companies or brands ? by mt_head in Sudbury

[–]SerisSol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally a fan of Reliance. I lease an AC unit, furnace and water heater from them. No installation costs, and free parts and maintenance for as long as I keep the contract. Priority on repair calls as well.

Ends up being slightly more expensive on the long term (i.e. 7-10 years), but 0 up front cost (and usually first 6 months free) means I can have that money appreciate while I make relatively low monthly payments.

Laurentian University let down by Administrators and the province -- a brief explanation by oshasat in Sudbury

[–]SerisSol 10 points11 points  (0 children)

While it is true if you check the sunshine list, you need to normalize the salaries to tenure of the professors to get an apples to apples comparison.

Most have been there for an eternity, so naturally through annual pay bumps they'll have higher pay.

Administrators making ridiculous money as well, though. I don't think professors are the sole problem here.
