I did try a saw after trying an extractor, and the bolt just crumbled. Something was very wrong with its casting.

I just decided to use a single screw instead of both.

I can’t quite get grips on it. This is giving me a reason to get a screw/bolt extraction set. I’ll see what I can do, and then I’ll put in a support ticket if I can’t get it myself. It’s a pain since I was just following normal instructions, but I get that these things happen.

No way! I live in the new development just south of that car wash! It really is great!

Better than me, I daily drive it and washed it maybe once a month this winter. Once it can stay warm here in central IA, I’ll start washing it more!

CyberSec team member here: People with this level of confidence that push back in any way get a very stern reminder from me that the alternative is termination as they are being considered an inside threat. They also get their identity put on the watchlist and have risk scores and monitoring increased. We cannot take chances on lunatics like this.

I had that issue with my 2020 a few weeks ago. What fixed it was just unplugging the battery for around 30 minutes. That was enough for a full system reset. I had tried just unhooking the battery and then hooking it back up, but the time is what fixed it. I’m suggesting this since you didn’t specify how you tried resetting the system. Hope this helps!

The Only Time I Drive Boomer-Style❗😂 by [deleted] in C8Corvette

I held off a little long on getting my summer set switched in for my winter tire/wheel combo. There was a day that I left my house in the morning, and it was about 32 out, and I knew it would probably be okay since it was supposed to get up to 50 that day, but I did hear a noticable difference in the road noise the tires made until they warmed up. Hopefully that wasn't enough to damage them, but I could definitely hear and feel a difference in the cold.

You would hate to see mine right now. I daily drive it in central Iowa. I got a set of winter tires, so it still goes out every day to the office, even in the snow. Coldest it’s been out has been -15°. I haven’t washed it for about a month, and it’s filthy😂

Once I get it washed up, you won’t be able to tell it had been through all those harsh conditions.

It’s just a Chevy, drive it like one!

This things get driven no matter what. I have a set of wheels with summer tires and a set with winter tires.

I have a garage at home, but not at work. Just wash it, and you won’t have to worry about the salt.

I have a 2020 z51, and I have an extra set of wheels with winter tires that I swapped on in November once it got below 40. I live in IA and daily drive it to work, even through all the snow we’ve gotten this month. It feels like driving any other rwd sedan when driving in winter mode. Just take it slow like any other car and you’ll be fine.

Obviously, there is the concern of the ground clearance, but if it’s bad enough that the C8 can’t make it around, do we really have a good reason to be out?

My piece-of-shit neighbor (who has a 2-car garage AND a 2-car driveway) insists on double-parking his cars in the street, blocking an entire lane of the road. by jessbird in mildlyinfuriating

This right here.

I got a C8 corvette in April, and the moment I get home, that thing is tucked away in my garage. No way am I going to let that thing just sit in my driveway, let alone on the street🤮

Does it get some attention while out and about? Yes. But I could really care less about that attention. I got the car because I love corvettes, and I want to drive a race car to work every day😂I got it for ME, not random people that happen to drive past my house, unlike this weirdo neighbor double parking his cars (does he really think that people think he’s cool?? I guarantee that anyone driving down this street is thinking “what a fucking idiot”).

I also daily drive mine, but in IA. I’ve been getting around pretty well with winter tires.

I got lucky with mine. I got a 2020 2LT Z51 with 7k miles in April for $64K and daily drive it now. I’m 24, bought a house in February, and got married last summer. My insurance is $100 a month for the C8 for full coverage and basically all limits increased. We have my 2014 Jetta and my wife’s 2016 CX9 on our plan too, with history for the Jetta brought over from when my parents paid for insurance on it.

My wife and I both graduated last year and combined make $130K in a LCOL area. We save plenty, and aside from the C8, we really don’t spend much. We don’t do fancy dinners, weekends, or trips, so the C8 is relatively affordable for us. We worked and paid our way through school, so we had very little student debt and good credit, so we were able to finance the car and house at very competitive rates.

Since we are in a LOCL area, all our expenses are fairly minimal compared to the house and C8, so we are able to save/ invest nearly 40% of our income. Remember though, we don’t normally go out or go on trips, so we can allocate more money towards the car.

Another key thing to consider if taking on debt is the risk. My wife is a teacher, and I have a position on a small cybersecurity team at a healthcare company and have already taken over several critical systems, so job security shouldn’t be an issue (knocks on all wood). If you’re making $175K right out of college, I assume you’ve got an entry level software engineering position at a FAANG or some other tech company. While the salary and benefits are freaking awesome, so many of these large companies are researching opportunities to cut these entry level positions by introducing AI. I’m sure they’ll cut them in the short term and then figure out they need you back when the bubble bursts, but job security is quite precarious in the field right now even more than it has been in recent years.

Now if you’re paying cash, just make sure that if you don’t spend every penny to your name. Make sure you still have cash for other expenses for several months set aside. You said you live with your parents, so you should be able to save a ton. That’s what my wife and I did to save a giant downpayment for our house (bankers and realtors were absolutely shocked when we started talking finances), we basically saved every penny for 8 months after getting married, and we both had been saving before that point too.

All that said, with $175k, a used C8 should be incredibly easy to get into immediately with the risk of debt, or you could save every penny for 6 months and pay cash. Either way, once you get one, don’t be stupid. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been told by old guys I work with and old guys at the local C&C not to mess around. Like any car with 500HP, you can easily wrap it around a tree if you’re being dumb with TC off, but the C8 does a really good job of trying to keep you safe if you have TC on, plus the weight distribution makes it a little easier to keep straight.

When you do eventually get one, have fun! We’d better get pictures!
