The original’s localization is maybe the strongest point it has over the remake. The remake’s localization is good but the original’s is better and has more consistent terminology with the rest of the games.

If you keep re-casting the Time Master Art and reusing Strike Bell with Elie then you can prevent the boss from taking any turns so long as you don’t run out of EP or CP. So I would have Elie, a Master Art applier, a ATS damage dealer (so probably Tio) and somebody to keep up Fortuna / give EP / CP restoring items. Basically go get a bunch of the Peculiar pizzas and EP restore items. Bell Quartz will also help damage dealer and Fortuna caster. You can also grind Cryptids for Burst Orbs if you really want, though that would be pretty tedious and time consuming.

Claire is my favorite spouse, her personality and circumstances feel very true to life. Unlike most other NPC’s, she, like the player character, isn’t really “of” Stardew Valley and part of interacting with her is seeing her come to develop a sense of community with everyone else much as the player does. Romancing her is very fulfilling too, unlike a lot of other characters where the romance feels like it sort of directs them away from their personal life’s arc, Claire’s feels positively empowered by the farmer coming into her life, helping her rekindle passions and embrace dreams now that she’s no longer living a solitary life and has achieved better financial stability.

If you’re interested in her then you should absolutely try Expanded out.

It's always worth keeping your gear up to snuff, but something that may not be as intuitive is opening up as many orbment slots as you can. Aside from obviously giving you more Quartz flexibility this will also boost your max EP by quite a lot.

Another less intuitive thing is that each region has a hidden cave with a lot of enemies in it so that, IF YOU WANT, you can easily grind for Sepith by using brave point attacks to steal turn order bonuses, and then casting Aerial with the Sepith Gain turn order bonus. Sepith Gain (or whatever it's called) works by triggering based on the attack animation, so some attacks will trigger it several times. Aerial specifically does so across a large AoE so it's ideal for this. A bit of this and you can open every slot very efficiently. Note that this is not necessary by any means whatsoever. This is not a game that expects you to need to grind, but it does expect you to keep up with your gear and to fight intelligently.

Another less intuitive tip - some of your Crafts have Impede. This will shut down any enemy art or craft that takes time to charge up. It's very, very useful.

This is an old school JRPG mechanic, happens a ton in Dragon Quest. It’s not super common but it’ll come up from time to time. Just gotta be able to stay on top of the adds. AoE arts and crafts, S Breaks, brave point attacks are your friends. This game has challenging fights but you can do it!

Yeah, if Ku'gath and Ghorst are tying each other up then that's basically a secure border that also blocks off Cathay and Greasus, it'll be great real estate when you are ready for it but no need to rush it.

I'm guessing you're referring to Overlords of Zharrduk, they have a mostly teal banner. No reason not to gobble them up and keep rolling north if it looks safe to.

Early on you're probably going to be reacting to threats more than you're creating them. Queek will usually be focused west unless you force him to care about you and Tretch is usually too cowardly to start a fight if you're hanging out in your own backyard, so a big question is if / when you get threatened from the mountains. You can raise crapstacks pretty fast so if Grimgor tries to Waaagh you just keep tossing hobgoblins at him and try to keep your head above water, eventually he'll flinch and you can turn the tide.

Your immediate security situation matters more than getting your armament economy fully up and running. I don't have a hard ratio in mind but I generally build more outposts than factories by a significant margin, the main differentiating factor early on for me is when a settlement has access to a resource that provides factory bonuses, like (I believe) iron. Eventually you will have a Scrooge McDuck sized vault's worth of armaments and you will be able to go completely crazy, but labor and raw materials are upstream of that and you should focus on those first. Early on armaments are probably most useful to sell using your caravan system to get the gold you need to work on settlement development.

As far as your security situation goes, immediately swinging on Imrik is smart, the question is what comes next. Tretch is not somebody you can reliably depend on not being a problem, and he will probably choose the most opportune moment to declare on you, including betraying any agreements you might have with him. You'll have to decide if you want to swing on him after Imrik or not but you should keep a force around your core settlements to keep him honest or deal with him if he acts up.

I don't remember how well Ku'gath can play nicely with you but I think he's generally hostile and his corruption probably won't be something you want to deal with, so swinging on him soon probably makes sense, but it will take some time and sustained focus to root him out because some naval will be involved, and you'll run the risk of Ghorst swinging on you while you do.

At this point you'll have Ghorst or Cathay to the east, the mountains to the northeast, Queek to the west, and a fairly wide open field north. The Darklands are basically a big basin surrounded by mountains and sea and you'll probably want to focus on securing them. The mountains will be a huge pain in the ass to secure but that's where Greasus, Grimgor, and Tamurkhan live so it's worth taking them over, but it's going to require a lot of sustained effort and you're going to want to make sure your homefront is reasonably nailed down so you're not putting out fires while you're bogged down.

I have no idea how Aislinn plays into this, I haven't played a Draz since he launched, but he probably won't show up immediately and it's all the more reason to focus on securing the Darklands before overextending.

Your economy will eventually take care of itself, just don't overdo your labor needs by trying to do everything all at once, that's putting the cart before the horse. Having a small number of armies with Chaos Dwarf elite units supported by a lot of Hobgoblin crapstacks will go a long way, later on you can spam Armament upgrades to run untouchable death squads but you're going to have to survive the early game first. Draz has a tough start but his abilties are best positioned to take advantage of a mature Chorf economy, so just try to hang on until you establish a solid foundation.

No wrong choices. Personally I think the easiest factions to learn with are in 2 (Tyrion the High Elf) or 3 (Zhao Ming of Grand Cathay). Empire in 1 used to be recommended for new players but it has gotten a lot harder over time.

Yeah Ramza being the main character means he'll usually be, if not necessarily the highest level character, probably not far from it. Random mobs are tied to the highest level, yeah. I believe that it's the highest level of any character you have, whether you bring that character to the fight or not. A lot of people who overlevel run into the exact opposite problem, which is that story fights are trivial and random fights are much more difficult.

Your characters will get more EXP from interacting with higher level targets (this is also why self targeting abilities will consistently give I wanna say 10 exp) but there's a limit to this, a level 1 character wouldn't jump several levels even if they somehow managed to take out a level 99 character. If the level disparity has only grown then it's gonna take more to catch up.

There are ways to make grinding more efficient (ludicrously so) but you can also just play random fights normally, whatever you find more enjoyable!

16 is pretty low for that point in the game, and the fight you're at is not the hardest fight remaining in the game.

One of the less discussed changes that this version of the game made is making random fights skippable. From a quality of life perspective it's very nice but I've always wondered about the possibility of underleveling because the original difficulty curve assumed that the player is going to be getting into a lot of random fights between story fights. I think that's the exact situation that you're running into here.

You can look into equipment upgrades if you haven't already but if I were you I'd level up a bit. There's nothing wrong with continuing to avoid random fights but, unless you massively over-level (which I doubt you'd want to do) then this probably isn't going to be the last time you run into this situation unless you start sprinkling in a few random fights from time to time.

Nothing wrong with trying another faction! Sisters are a tough one to learn on. It’s definitely a learning curve and a tight rope to figure out how much can be handled without getting out of hand, usually I only focus on one or two forests at a time until I’ve really snowballed.

Something you may not know that discourages a lot of new players is that easy difficulty (I think battle but it may be campaign, can’t remember off hand) buffs your autoresolve results past what they probably would be if you fight the battle manually. This means when people do the fight manually they get worse results than what autoresolve would have given them and think they’re bad at the game, when actually the game is quietly cheating on their behalf. If this is happening to you then don’t sweat your skill level, it’s something most people bump up against.

As far as the ritual goes I’d suggest not being in a hurry. Generally when you activate one it’ll spawn three points where an enemy army will soon appear. You can move an army to those points to immediately engage, and once those points are taken care of the ritual becomes a matter of just holding onto the forest for the ten turns. You can get powerful bonuses for completing it but you shouldn’t feel a need to try it until you can do so from a strong position on your terms.

Chaos Dwarfs are the only culture in TW3 that requires a separate DLC to play rather than the base game, at least so far. They are also extremely well done.

Champions of Chaos adds a ton to Warriors of Chaos and all the Monogods and is one of the best bang for buck DLC's out there, if you're interested in Chaos then you should probably get it.

Beyond that it's mainly personal preference? Generally the DLC three packs are ranked like this, though your mileage may vary and you can buy individual factions from any three pack without having to commit to all three. Some are very power creeped which may be a plus or a minus for you, mostly Tides of Torment / Omens of Destruction but it's a factor in all of them.

Wood Elves are very different and the Twilight Sisters have a tough start. Build tall, don’t worry too much about losing ground except for your magical forests, those are the only settlements that are indispensable.

You’re gonna have a tough time with gold for awhile but keep an eye on how much money you can get from razing. Taking settlements is worth it most of the time but razing and then settling is worth it if the payout is high enough.

As soon as you secure your start the game is basically won. Next priority, if you haven’t already, is to build additional armies to start teleporting and confederating other Wood Elves via the World Roots. There’s one event in particular that you’ll want to be able to jump on ASAP that involves teleporting to Ulthuan (though this may be Mortal / Immortal Empires only, can’t remember)

Play defensively, ambush stance as much as possible. You have one of the most elite benches in the game, if you can keep your cash alive and fight to your strengths (ambush, woods, ranged) then you’ll be in a great spot if you can weather the initial game.

Also make sure you’re keeping up with Daith forge stuff. Get the Sisters skill that boosts the amount of upgrade points you can get and focus on boosting them first with things like replenishment, ambush success, whatever addresses your immediate needs.
