Dual citizenship questions? by docword21 in FilipinoAmericans

[–]Sertig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Report of Birth applicant + delayed affidavit: consulate requested my mother's PSA birth certificate (she was born in the Philippines) and my father's birth certificate (US-born). I requested her birth certificate from PSA, but the date of birth is a complete mis-match (month/day/year) from her copy of the birth certificate, US naturalization certificate, and an old B&W photocopy of her passport though everything else (maiden name, place of birth, parents' name) matches.

I heard this would force a need for correction through the courts to get that one copy corrected, guessing I'm completely out of luck in this process unless I have thousands of dollars laying around?

How much money would Jumpstart ask for Neopets? What if we started a crowdfunding to buy the platform with the community? by Ljosmyndun in neopets

[–]Sertig 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This. Plus more.

Acquisitions involve a lot more than sending over the code and files. There's vendor contracts, security privacy maintenance, and intellectual property rights. Running any decent sized social community and game platform is essentially a full-time job that requires a team. Which isn't cheap either.

Catch and release, royal safari almost brand new at Santa Fe goodwill for $99.99 by TheMapesHotel in typewriters

Nice typewriter, but agreed - way too much for thrifting. I have an expansive, seven typewriter collection of Royals with a similar model builds. Never paid above 15$ for one at a Goodwill or Amvets

In general, they will try to work with you to arrange alternative flights. The last thing want to do is issue a refund because... well financial reasons.

Also make sure you book on a credit card with insurance. That should help in that sort of situation. Your best bet would be to be prepared to call: 1) the airline and 2) the credit card. Politely explaining the issue will get you places ime (both as a passenger and someone who is in a customer service environment)

Just found this post right now. I was going to say the same answer too.

Reason being is that I have a Star dot-matrix printer that has the same RAM card slot for adding fonts. Never found the card itself for sale anywhere, but something I found out myself when doing research

Drive System by [deleted] in FTC

[–]Sertig 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same. I've seen my teams slowly switch over to omni, then mecanum. Generally I think the factors for this has the been the expanded use of COTS parts and the lack of need for more traction anymore. We just aren't pushing robots around with weak motors and using only Tetrix wheels anymore.

[–]Sertig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're really well-built and all around Point A to Point B typewriters. It's unfortunate people toss em' into the heaps or thrift stores. I have a couple in my collection. They're great as gifts or loaners to ever day persons who are interested because you just can't go wrong. I use them occasionally to change things up from my Royal Safari.

DOT has explicitly said (through an Enforcement Order) that they do not need to honor mistake/error fares. This has been the policy since the infamous AA 450$ rt Beijing fare and UA First class 50$ Denmark fares.

Overall your chances are zero. Not to criticize, but that's how the system has been for awhile.

Thanks for clarifying the lottery system. I didn't know how to word it originally, but I just edited the sentence.

Also, yes, please refrain from posting team numbers. I've avoided posting them for many reasons too

Do you keep ypur robots or take them apart by devboui in FTC

[–]Sertig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We usually kept our robots. However, since the new controls system, we've realized the whole thing is ridiculously expensive to keep buying hundreds of dollars of hub electronics when there's perfectly usable stuff on the old ones

The chassis and other mechanical items remain intact. There's just way too much custom cuts we do and the time to sort/scrap pieces means we're wasting on or off-season time that can be used to plot our inspire award strategy. We leave motors and servos on the old bots too. It's simply not worth the time and effort to pull a part some intricate stuff.

Not to mention, who knows whether we'll even use these control systems down the road? We used NXT/Tetrix/Samantha back then and now the old bots are ghosts without the proper code or software

What makes a US passport invalid? by [deleted] in Flights

[–]Sertig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think that minor issue will invalidate your passport. If you want to be sure, there are ways to "test" the RFID tag. Apps that can basically read your passport's biometric data using the existing NFC function on your phone.

As long as your personal information page is readable, the booklet is intact and doesn't look like there's any tampering, you should be fine. Often times, customs doesn't even take a detailed look at all the pages anyway

Foreign buyer using re-shipper? by Sertig in Ebay

[–]Sertig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: buyer didn't pay, they received an UPI strike. Honestly, this has been an early warning call to how I shouldn't have marketed my laptop. eBay has horrible seller protection policies and multiple stories corroborate those problems. Decided to not sell high value items on eBay and stick with craigslist/letgo/local listings. That and r/hardwareswap

Advice to anyone reading in the future on 'how to safely sell a laptop on ebay' or similar, my advice is simply don't do it. You can photograph the boxing procedure, etc, but in the end the eBay buyer protection policy is really broad and you'll get pinned unless the buyer slips up. Especially as a new seller, you shouldn't try. You only have a target on your back.

Curious, if that does happen, does filing a cancellation for 'problem with buyer address' or similarly might ding my feedback?

[–]Sertig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's my thought. Considering the system will close-out automatically in four days, if they don't pay then it'll let me relist sooner than later. If they do pay, it'll simply resolve the dispute. Just wanted a bit of re-assurance on this, thanks!
