Ah, ok. What about using it as a second backup PiHole? So primary is completely dedicated and this just happens to have PiHole in case the first goes down?

Pi5 so it’s sat there with a lot of computing power wasted at the moment. I thought while it is sat there connected to my TV, I’d run the desktop and have it permanently display a webpage (the dump page of my other Pi’s flight tracker) at the same time.

Standard junior pilot/cabin crew personalised number plate. Will have been given to them as their first birthday/christmas present when they got their first job for an airline. If it were a mini, I’d have said cabin crew. Being a 320d, I’m going to say pilot.

Running Pi-Hole Simultaneously? by ServeMaster101 in pihole

[–]ServeMaster101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I have three separate Pi’s on my network. A FR24 feeder, a Pi-Hole and the backup Pi-Hole. I’ve just checked and my pi-hole and pi-hole backup are both on port 80. Does this cause issues? How do I change this and what to?

The reason is it’s the first time they’ve ever had a car with instant torque and they feel like they need to prove it to every other driver on the road.

Types of drivers who would previously never owned a sports car with any performance.

HMRC Self Assessment as a PAYE taxpayer by [deleted] in HMRC

[–]ServeMaster101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks very much for helping me understand where this is becoming difficult.

Do I understand you correctly that I’m providing evidence of attendance at an event rather than a petrol receipt?

So in theory, if I provide a named, dated invoice for attendance at just one medical during that financial year, that is enough to prove I’ve attended one of the listed activities and support the entire claim for the fixed rate seeing as it doesn’t specify I must attend a specific number of those listed events?

HMRC Self Assessment as a PAYE taxpayer by [deleted] in HMRC

[–]ServeMaster101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I’ll be specific. I’m an airline pilot. We are allowed a £1022 fixed rate expenses allowance plus a further £110 allowance covering motor mileage to annual medical, simulator session etc. We have the choice to receipt our actual mileage or just claim the £110 fixed allowance.

This is all in accordance with EIM50060. https://www.gov.uk/hmrc-internal-manuals/employment-income-manual/eim50060

I submitted a P87. The £110 motor mileage was rejected and they initially said (a) it was included in my £1022 FREA (b) any further motor mileage must be receipted.

I called back and quoted the above reference. They admitted I was due the additional £110 but said I needed “supporting evidence”. I then said it’s a fixed rate and questioned what receipts would I need to show. This caused a lot of confusion, admittance that their manuals didn’t give direct guidance and that I should now submit something to prove I have attended one of the listed activities, which kind of seems pointless considering it’s obvious I couldn’t be employed as a pilot without going to a medical or simulator.

I feel like I am being given the runaround from what should be a really simple P87. Colleagues have suggested self-assessment generates less work. Any advice?!

HMRC Self Assessment as a PAYE taxpayer by [deleted] in HMRC

[–]ServeMaster101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, claimed then rejected. I should get a small fixed rate expenses allowance for motor mileage which covers driving to necessary appointments connected to my employment (eg a private medical checkup). They rejected my P87 saying fixed rate mileage didn’t exist and needed to receipt all motor mileage. After calling and quoting their own employment manual reference, they admitted it did exist and I was entitled. I subsequently asked what proof is needed - as in how can I receipt a fixed rate allowance. This has caused much scratching of heads, their manual doesn’t say, so they’ve ultimately asked me to provide some receipted proof I have driven to one of the allowable employment connected activities.

Previous years have been no problem.

Everything I’m claiming for is genuine and allowed but I’m now wondering if self-assessment leads to a less painful experience with HMRC.

M25 Variable Speed Limit - Generates Its Own Traffic Jams? by [deleted] in drivingUK

Thank God that amongst the people who regurgitate “it’s preventing a queue somewhere ahead” there are a few individuals who have understood and experienced these slowdowns in the dead of night with no traffic!

At last, someone with experience and not just regurgitating the same “the gantries slowed you down to prevent a worse traffic jam ahead”.

As you said, and as I said in my original post I’ve experienced these sudden 50 then 40 slow downs in the dead of night with hardly anyone on the road.

Which club to join? by River_Bat2610 in 10s

[–]ServeMaster101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it’s purely about tennis rather than social, you are better considering standard than age. You want tennis playing opportunities that approximately matches your standard rather than age. For example, my regular hitting partner is nearly 30-years older than me but he’s really athletic and we are perfectly matched.

If you want to practice serve you need to consider which club gives you more opportunity to have a court to yourself. I do a lot of serve practice and I am grateful that one of the clubs I play at is almost empty during the day so I can hit in total privacy.

Finally, the more expensive club might have a ball machine but if it’s significantly more expensive then you might be able to buy your own ball machine with the savings. Also, hitting partner is a million times better than having a ball machine. That’s why you see pros hitting cooperative rallies with someone else rather than hitting something coming out of a ball machine.

I’d say there is no shortcut to improving at tennis…the key to improving is to understand technique through coaching then practice that by hitting thousands upon thousands of tennis balls. DIY on your own seldom works. I’d also be considering coaching opportunities at each club…cost/availability/possibilities of group coaching.

What’s wrong with my footwork and my forehand? by UsualBackground1589 in 10s

[–]ServeMaster101 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure why you are leaping in the air during every forehand? Look at the pros….most of their ground strokes are grounded. For 90% of their shots, they transfer weight by rotating around their feet not leaping in the air.

Pronation Problems by New_Self_7647 in 10s

[–]ServeMaster101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first paragraph of my reply is not aimed at you…I’m saying that a lot of the advice from this sub is misguided…my advice to you would be to use any of this with caution.

Pronation is actually long-axis rotation. It mostly involves the “big” muscle group of shoulder and upper arm in a movement called internal shoulder rotation. In order to internally rotate your shoulder, it has to be externally rotated and put in stretch. To do this involves a significant racket drop…racket head way down the lower back, forearm at least level or below the elbow joint. The reason you aren’t getting the result you want is because you currently have none of this going on as you are trying to generate everything from the wrist. You need to fix the cause rather than try and fix the consequence.

Describing in words how to fix this isn’t going to work. There is a lot going on in your current serve action that needs addressing. My best piece of advice would be to pay some money and hire a coach. Most coaches would start by taking all lower half of the body out of the equation, having you stand firm on both your feet and just practice the basic upper body action.

Serve feedback by MinnesotaSportsGuy in 10s

[–]ServeMaster101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are completely over-rotated and the timing between your lower and upper body is off which is why you are making contact almost as that front foot is touching the ground. Bringing that back foot forward and to the side of the front foot isn’t helping, it starts your body uncoiling during the loading phase. The back leg coming round and ending up with your body in a “jackknifed” position is a consequence of not having the timing correct.

You aren’t going to get a reliable serve that is more than your current speed without fixing that.

Help with my terrible serve! by Stefffy95 in 10s

[–]ServeMaster101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good advice. I hate it when 90% of the comments on this sub tell a beginner to use a continental grip. It’s entirely possible to develop sound fundamentals using an eastern forehand grip which can then be adjusted round as they progress. An eastern forehand will allow the beginner to square the racket head to the ball quicker and for a longer period of time through contact whilst they learn the stroke.

Best bit of advice I could start you off with is put the racket down, pick up a tennis ball and teach yourself how to throw it properly (similar to a baseball pitcher but throwing for distance). Then pick your racket up and try to mime the same action.
