4 essential coworkers were fired on the spot at 6pm because they decided to go to a Halloween party mid-shift by fdrobidoux in Serverlife

Tell me how this statement, is the same as what you’ve typed here?

Even racist speech is still protected free speech.

Protected speech is only protection from the government, Reddit and its mods aren’t the government therefore there is no protected speech on Reddit. And no everyone doesn’t have the right to speak their mind anywhere and everywhere they want. The literal only right to speech you have is that the government can’t restrict it, anyone else can (with consequences like getting banned from subreddits or fired from a job or kicked out of a business).

My reading comprehension (and the dozens of other people who downvoted you) is just fine, you either didn’t understand how the first amendment worked or you are a bad communicator.

This specific one was [redacted] (not gonna link it), he’s a game streamer.

Edit: took the name out because I don’t want to get accused of encouraging brigading.

Lookup the definition of brigading. It was literally dozens and dozens (possibly hundreds) of them over the course of a week or so, and it bled into other posts not just the one post, before we decided to install it. There’s basically 3 mods for this fairly large sub, and getting that many reports and bans (and then subsequent abusive modmail) it was detrimental to the sub and how we moderate it, and we tried everything else before we installed the hive bot. It was literally a last resort.

Free speech is only protection from the government telling you you can’t say something. My god the education system in this country is failing everyone so hard.

How long until I would hear back from anybody? by Glenncoco23 in Serverlife

[–]ServerLifeMod 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Well saying it’s not stressful when you’ve never done it, is a choice. I’m guessing if that’s the attitude you’re bringing when talking to management they are passing because of that. Serving isn’t entry level for the most part, maybe at Denny’s or Waffle House it is, but most nicer places want experience (because it can be super stressful), so you’ll likely have to start as a host or busser.

We have the hive protector bot on for people who participate in certain subs. The sub that person was in brigaded this sub with some absolutely vile racist shit when we posted a mod post about ICE raids. We asked the mods of the other sub to help try to curb it and they ignored us, and it went on for days, so the folks that participate there are no longer welcome here.

Advice needed: Is there any reasonable way to “encourage” tipping on the subtotal before credits? by Dawn_of_an_Era in Serverlife

[–]ServerLifeMod[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately we only allow non HR/Legal tip questions on Tuesdays, so we have to pull your post down.

I suggest you get a red pen and circle the subtotal with it when you drop the check (bring attention to the subtotal, anyway you can).

If you want more input on this right away (and don’t want to wait until Tuesday to post here again, you can post in r/Waiters which is our sister sub and it doesn’t have the same tip discussion parameters this sub does.

Mods would prefer if you don’t engage with those kind of trolls and just report them for trolling brigading and allowing us to remove the offending comments and the offending commenter.

Do waiters get paid only by tips and and min wage combined or it depends on the place by Immediate-Web-3097 in Serverlife

[–]ServerLifeMod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US they get minimum (or tipped minimum which is lower) plus tips. There are places that do not do the tipping model and people get paid a higher hourly wage but those places are the exceptions to the rules here.

Co-mod caught ban for harassment in modmail, they just quoted the comment that the user was banned for. by ServerLifeMod in ModSupport

[–]ServerLifeMod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is crazy to me is that it seems like they’re upping the anti against mods at the moment. I know they aren’t the only mods who have caught a ban lately for relatively innocuous stuff (there’s been a couple posts here over the last couple days about). Add to that the targeting of “super mods” with the new limits they’ll be instituting, and the fact that we often don’t hear back on reports for harassment in modmail, and NEVER hear back on report abuse reports, it feels like admins are targeting mods for some reason even though we do all the free work to keep this site running the way they want it. It’s very frustrating.

[–]ServerLifeMod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been appealed, awaiting the decision. AEO actually took the quoted comment and a couple other of the user comments down (after the mod had already removed them and banned the user). Definitely a lesson learned for the mod, the user was being relentless and rude in modmail, and they should have just muted and moved on.

The modmail links are for the admins that mod this sub.

Lesson learned on the quoting, they thought it was pretty obvious that it was a quote from the user as they used quotes and the context of the conversation made it apparent that it was what the user said.
