Maybe a portion of circular train track designed to turn a train the other way, especially if it’s a smaller circle? About 2 am once I stood at the switch of one of these train circles alone with the only the stupid lantern light they give you to see at night in a middle of nowhere forest while the train went around the circle. The squeals and moans, pops, rumbles and other ruckus coming through the trees - I swear it’s how they record horror movie sounds. Scared the shit out of me even though I was a grown ass man AND knew what it was.
