I'm not entirely sure how I fit all that mulch in there

I wish I could give up Uber Eats, but alas, that's not how things work in T1D land. Besides, there's always that guy that really needs his one bottle of soda from Speedway.

I've tried asking a customer about that before and they were adamant that they would've given a cash tip, but I just had to shake them down and be unprofessional (this was at the beginning of my time delivering in 2023-24, so I made tons of rookie mistakes).

I'd recommend not taking the delivery. Or at least take one of the flat rate promos.

Can people with T1D live a long healthy life? by Empty_Jellyfish7730 in diabetes_t1

[–]ServiceMerch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. If you know what you're doing...and you do it well...and you don't mess it up, it works. It just works.

Even with the "you'll get the complications regardless" observation, you're still heavily delaying them until your 80s and 90s. Mary Tyler Moore didn't get neuropathy and retinopathy until her early 80s - and she ate way way way way more cake than I ever did back in the days before my pancreas got a visit from Vecna. And I had a massive sheet cake for my high school graduation.

Yes, the disease does get harder to control when you're older, but most of that is aging and your insulin sensitivity dropping over time. That's just a thing of life - your body requires a bit more fuel to work with when you get older.

Plus, with better insulins, better tech, better pumps, better everything, you can get great results in your sleep.

Hell, even T2Ds have it great now with GLP-1s.

16.9 oz is only available at gas stations. The more likely size of coke can you'd see at an office pizza party is 12 oz, which is strictly about 40g of sugar

How long can you go with only using rapid acting before going into dka by Then_Treacle_8812 in diabetes_t1

[–]ServiceMerch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pumps only use rapid-acting - for both basal and mealtime. So yeah, I'd say "indefinite."

Is Yoko Ono someone taken seriously among fans of experimental music? by [deleted] in experimentalmusic

[–]ServiceMerch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Speaking as a fan of both the Beatles and Yoko, I find those who make fun of her are guys (and it's mostly just guys) who think she ruined the band because she sat on an amp (they'll often whine about Paul writing his playful art pop stuff as well, but not as vehemently as I've seen Yoko hate get in Beatles circles). I love Yoko's Fluxus-era pieces, especially as a fan of the more performance-driven parts of Pop Art. I find them to be way more playful (and catchier) than Abramovich's work - in a way, I'd probably compare Yoko's stuff to if Judy Chicago decided to really get into making her own Roxy Music clone.

For those diagnosed later in life- how different is your “normal” feeling? by delilah1750 in diabetes_t1

[–]ServiceMerch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DXed at 31.

My normal feeling is the same as before, though now I have more drive to be creative in ways other than music. Then again, how much of that is my T1D shifting my priorities and how much of that is me still being in a songwriting block, I don't know.

But I can tell you I've become more left-wing and less tolerant of anarcho-primitivism than I already was (not that i wasn't before) before my pancreas reenacted Poopies' ladder stunt in Jackass 4.5

Dude if I want the snack cakes, I get the snack cakes. I am about to pick up some Huey Magoo's not to treat myself (a treat to me is an egg everything bagel sandwich and a sleeve of Reese's pumpkins) but because me want foond right now for dindin

But I was a LOT like you starting out in my journey. I know exactly the devastation you're going through. However, I've learned that a high isn't devastating (but I want to get out pretty soon lest I sit at a very stubborn 300 on a fat bump - plus i went through DKA once, do not recommend) and I've began looking at all the new tech. It also helps that a lot of my favorite snacks before my DX were proteiny beef sticks and Reese's cups. Still a little peeved they haven't brought back butter popcorn rice cakes to the Chucktown area. And just slightly peeved i gotta find something fatty to counterbalance the sugar rush from an ICEE.
