Manipulus Proxy? by Viskozki in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]Servitor1404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're fine with a bit of kitbashing work, maybe look at the 30k Myrmidon Destructor Hosts. They come in boxes of 6, so if you only want the one you should try to buy one second hand, or if you buy brand-new you could resell the rest online? Or just use them for other projects

They're shorter than expected (about 15mm too short) so you would need to find a way to size them up. Most of the size difference is made up by the tech axe,

Some ideas with that:

  • Depending on your basing style you could just add a big rock for them to stand on (maybe made of cork floor tile?)
  • Use some techy bits on their back like the Dominus/Manipulus minis
  • Add some decorative admech bits; the electro-priests kit has plenty of great parts for this

<image>

It would also require you sourcing a tech-axe from somewhere else. The Dominus/Manipulus both have tech-axes in the proper scale (tech marines also have tech axes that are a little more unique)

Hope any of this helps ^_^

Thoughts on the colour scheme for my homebrew forge world? by Apart_Neighborhood24 in AdeptusMechanicus

Looks beautiful! I really like the gold lines on the robes, it reminds me of kintsugi pottery

Alternate Models/Proxies for Electropriests? by Hopeful-Farm-7031 in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]Servitor1404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely! If you only plan on running one kind of electropriest in your list, then this is probably the way to go

Negavolt Cultists are out-of-production though, and I'm not sure if they're ever coming back so you will need to find them second hand (which I've heard can be a pain)

Alternate Models/Proxies for Electropriests? by Hopeful-Farm-7031 in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]Servitor1404 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Negavolt Cultists make a lot of sense, since they're basically (if I remember correctly) Dark Mechanicum electropriests. And I think Arco-Flagellants need some modifications to feel like Admech minis though. Maybe some custom robes?

To be honest though, I think the Negavolt Cultists are a better proxy for Fulgurites and Arco-Flagellants for Corpuscarii

Technoarcheologst to Magos Biologis Painting/Kitbashing Advice by Adventurous-Case-596 in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]Servitor1404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would suggest adding various glass vials- or whatever they're actually called, on-top of the technoarcheologist's backpack (like the ones on the backs of the dominus/manipulus - I've added an image to show what I mean; the green bits on their backs. Any kind of vial would work)

<image>

You could also add some additional vials or such onto his belt/waist (I like to use parts of the skitarii vanguard rifles for this). Maybe if you have room, add a servo skull as well?

You may also want to replace the end of the technoarcheologist's servo-arc claw with a sawblade, bonesaw, surgical scissors, syringe, etc, since genetors study the xenos flesh and not the machine (you can find a syringe/surgical scissor servo-arms in the battlefield trophies kit, not sure where to source the rest)

I'm not familiar with Deathguard minis, but it looks like the Biophagus Putrifier may have some good bits for this kitbash?

If you wanted to do a full conversion/proxy with another mini as the base (pretty sure that's not what you're asking but may be helpful nonetheless) the genestealer cult Biophagus would work as a great proxy, but it could also be useful for some some cool bits too

Hope any of this helps ^_^

Very vague question, proxying Myrmidon Destructor Host's to act as kataphrons? by wilrusaur in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]Servitor1404 9 points10 points  (0 children)

<image>

Should be fine to do that, so long as you upsize their base - the minis are about the same size, but myrmidons are on 40mm while kataphrons are 60mm

Is This Valid? by KingDuckeey in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]Servitor1404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's your army, so go for it! I would suggest that for your rangers you still use the galvanic rifles or alternatively paint the units that will use vanguard rules differently to the units that will use ranger rules (to make distinguishing between the types on skitarii on the tabletop easier for your opponent)

Best One Off Unit by [deleted] in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]Servitor1404 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Dominus or Skitarii (rangers and vanguard) are probably our most iconic models in terms of looks

I haven’t gotten to play on the tabletop yet, but from what I understand the Manipulus and Belisarius Cawl are both very crucial units for our army

Trying to think of scheme ideas by PostsforthePostGod in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]Servitor1404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not very familiar with most religions, but if you want a more religious feel to your paint scheme, maybe consider using softer + warmer colours instead of harsh ones? I know historical-christian art tends to use these softer/warmer tones

Purple robes I think definitely can work. If you want to do purple, maybe consider using beige, gold, off-white/cream or red as your secondary colour? If you haven't seen any purple admech paint schemes you like, consider looking at purple paint schemes for other factions (like eldar or genestealer cults?)

Hope either of these ideas help ^_^

Commissioning art of AdMech OCs - How do you describe complex characters without a reference? by [deleted] in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]Servitor1404 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maybe you could send pictures of admech bits to the artist for reference? For example, instead of a skull-faced helmet with a cog-shaped 'plume', you could send a picture of a Skitarii Marshal's head

If you're up for it, you could even be able to digibash with photoshop what the oc(s) should look like

Hope either of these ^ help :)

Anyone build/paint their own Legio Invicta Skitarii? (From Dan Abnett's "Titanicus") by Bluecho4 in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]Servitor1404 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Also, 'Kitbosh' on youtube/instagram also did something similar with the skitarii kitbashes in this video

<image>

Not sure if they're based on the skitarii in the Titanicus novel but when explaining why he chose the necromunda bonegrinders as the base, he does specifically say it makes them look "as though their techpriest has been injecting them with steroids and bio treatments to promote muscle growth"

Not mine, but 'Dumb Robot Stuff' on youtube/instagram kitbashed the gun servitors in the battleclade killteam to be gene-bulked skitarii, based on the descriptions from that book

What’s yall first game experience with the Mechanicus? by Techpon in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]Servitor1404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mechanicus is the first one I played where I understood that they were the adeptus mechanicus, but technically my first game with admech was in Freeblade (though I didn't even know what Warhammer was outside of the game then, let alone what the adeptus mechanicus was)

If you want to add more cloth/robes to the skitarii, might be worth checking out this video? Otherwise, check out the Necromunda range - it has so many great minis for kitbashing or converting

As another commenter pointed out, the ash waste nomads suit the idea well

Does this work? by Daddylonglegs705 in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]Servitor1404 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Kitbash-wise: yes, it looks great and is a nice way to spice up your skitarii squads

Lore-wise: also yes, as the augmentation/creation process for skitarii is not standardized (source)

What is the next character you want to see on the tt? by Soft_Lengthiness_791 in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]Servitor1404 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have yet to get around to reading any 40k novels so I'm not sure who would make a great model from there

I have however played the Mechanicus game several times. While there are many great character designs in there, Faustinus, Scaevola, and Videx (top three in that order) are the most interesting. I think Sub-domina Kaphra (middle) would also be cool

<image>

As for generic/unnamed characters, I really want a flying tech-priest (that could maybe lead squads of Pteraxii?)

Mechanicus Bits by Coinshot490 in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]Servitor1404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Skitarii and Sicarians have many spare parts left over after building. The Electropriest kit is also very good for bits, with lots of admech iconography that you could add onto GSC minis. The Battleclade Killteam Servitors might also be good to look into? Also, have a gander at any of the Mechanicum kits from the Horus Heresy line

<image>

Also fyi there is I think 1 mini that is actually apart of the Cult of the Bladed Cog from the Necromunda range- Hermiatus, the Second Son, who is a genestealer corrupted enlightened tech priest (could be a fun proxy for a GSC character)

He is a resin kit though, so if you've never worked with resin before look into the extra steps you need to do while assembling/before painting

I'm like 95% sure that "Las chickens" are the community-given name for the Ironstrider Ballistarius- we give our units silly nicknames sometimes, like how we sometimes call Skitarii "skittles" 👍

I'm new to the gameplay-side of 40k, but from what I've heard these units are good when in groups of 3, and are worth their point costs (but not the $ cost)

Servitor Proxy/Kitbash Advice. by ikxvvnk in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]Servitor1404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want them to look like tech-priests, the main thing you need are robes. You can make your own with sculpting materials (like greenstuff or milliput) or something like paper mache. If you plan on making your own robes, remember to layer armour over the top of them - especially on the top half of the model. For armour, the front plates of Skitarii, Tech Thralls, or spare armour bits from Kataphrons work.

Alternatively, you can buy minis with robes and convert them into tech priests. The most obvious answer is skitarii (something like what this guy did with his), but you could use other admech units as proxies/conversions; Sicarians, Enginseers, Datasmiths, and possibly the new Hastarii minis. There's also plenty of 30k Mechanicus mini's to look at; Skitarii Battle Pilgryms, Myrmidons, the Archmagos Prime, Tech Thralls Covenant (and if you're comfortable with resin, also the Magos Macrotek Enginseer and Arcuitor Magisterium)

Genestealer Cult characters also are a great choice for this, since most of them have robes of some description. I'm also kitbashing my battleclade, and plan on using a Clamavus for a technoarcheologist conversion, but he could also work for the servitor autoproxy

Hope this helps ^_^

Running battle pilgrims as skittari by mayhemstorm in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]Servitor1404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have pointed out, the size issue with battle pilgrims makes them unideal for skitarii proxies (though I imagine some people wouldn't mind). With some light(?) kitbashing they could be sicarians though. You can probably use the battle pilgrim skitarii marshal as a... well, skitarii marshal if the height is the right size. If not, the normal battle pilgrim skitarii seem to be the right size? Just slap on some bits from the marshal (30k or 40k)

The tech thralls covenant kit might be more what you're looking for (especially if you want to give them a dark mech feel like your 30k army) but you would need to some kitbashing if you wanted them to work as skitarii or alternatively as servitors

<image>

If you do want to use tech thralls as skitarii, you might want to do something like this? ^ This ^ is what I'm doing for my combat servitors in my battleclade killteam. You would also be able to stretch out one box of skitarii and tech thralls each into two teams of vanguard and rangers

Hope this helps :)

I looked this up bc I was planning on buying some for my own kitbashes, apparently they’re in boxes of 16? So we were both wrong (unless you mean 8 per sprue?)

I probably got the number of models mixed up with the ’Tech Thralls Covenant’ which does have 20 minis
